A Rwanda safari in 2026 costs about $632–$2,880 for a budget three-day trip, or $2,500–$5,000 per person for a mid-range seven- to 10-day itinerary. Luxury trips can reach $32,200, while a mountain-gorilla permit alone costs $1,500 for most visitors from outside Africa. Compare trip styles, dates, and verified operators before booking.
Hook: A single Rwanda gorilla trekking permit costs $1,500, before you pay for one hotel night or safari drive. [5]
How Much Is a Rwanda Safari in 2026? Cost by Trip Style depends mainly on length, lodging, permits, transport, and activities. Rwanda is a compact safari destination, but gorilla trekking creates a high fixed cost. A mid-range seven- to 10-day trip costs $2,500–$5,000 per person in 2026. [1]
Rwanda safari prices also cover very different travel styles. A short budget trip can cost $632–$2,880 for three days, including flights, local transport, food, and activities. [2] A luxury itinerary can cost far more. One 17-day African itinerary that includes Rwanda starts at $19,200. [4]
Quick answer: A Rwanda safari costs $632–$2,880 for a budget three-day trip and $2,500–$5,000 for a mid-range seven- to 10-day trip. Gorilla trekking adds a $1,500 permit for most international visitors. Luxury trips can rise to $32,200, based on lodging, private transport, and itinerary length.
This guide breaks down Rwanda safari costs by trip style. It also explains what the price includes, how to compare quotes, and where travelers often spend more than planned. Prices are estimates available in July 2026. Treat them as planning ranges, not guaranteed package quotes.
A Rwanda safari is a guided wildlife trip that can combine mountain-gorilla trekking, primate walks, game drives, lodging, meals, and local transport. The trip can last three days or several weeks. Its final price reflects both the number of travel days and the level of service you choose.
Rwanda is best known for mountain-gorilla trekking. However, travelers can also build an itinerary around wildlife viewing, forest visits, cultural experiences, or a mix of activities. Gorilla trekking usually shapes the budget because the permit alone costs $1,500 for visitors from outside Africa. [5]
Mid-range Rwanda safaris offer the clearest balance for many travelers. A seven- to 10-day trip costs $2,500–$5,000 per person, according to a 2026–2027 Rwanda safari estimate. [1] That estimate includes comfortable accommodation, gorilla permits, guided wildlife tours, meals, and local transportation. [1]
Budget Rwanda trips suit travelers who want a short visit and simple services. A three-day budget trip is estimated at $632–$2,880. The range includes flights, local transport, food, and activities, so the lower and higher ends can represent very different comfort levels. [2]
East African safari pricing provides useful regional context. In 2026, safari trips across East Africa are broadly reported at $150–$1,500 or more per person per day. Mid-range trips average $350–$700 per person per day. [3] Those figures cover several countries, so they should not replace a Rwanda-specific quote.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. Compare Rwanda safari packages for 2026 to see how real itineraries handle permits, transport, and accommodation.
A Rwanda safari costs about $632–$2,880 for a budget three-day trip, $2,500–$5,000 for a mid-range seven- to 10-day itinerary, and up to $32,200 for luxury travel. These ranges show the effect of trip length, comfort, private services, and activities. They do not describe one fixed package.
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget Rwanda trip | $632–$2,880 per person [2] | 3 days | Not provided | Short visits and simple travel |
| Mid-range Rwanda safari | $2,500–$5,000 per person [1] | 7–10 days | Not provided | Gorilla trekking and wider wildlife touring |
| Luxury Rwanda experience | Up to $32,200 | Varies | Not provided | Private service and high-end lodging |
| Multi-country luxury itinerary | From $19,200 [4] | 17 days | Not provided | Travelers combining Rwanda with other African destinations |
Budget Rwanda travel is best for visitors with limited time. The three-day estimate includes flights, local transport, food, and activities. [2] Before choosing the lowest price, check whether the itinerary includes a gorilla permit. A trip without gorilla trekking can have a very different total.
Budget travelers can reduce costs by choosing simple lodging and shared transport. They should still protect money for permits, travel insurance, airport transfers, and personal expenses. A low advertised price is useful only when every major item appears in writing.
Mid-range Rwanda safaris offer comfortable lodging and guided activities. The seven- to 10-day estimate includes accommodation, gorilla trekking permits, wildlife tours, meals, and local transport. [1] This style suits couples, families, and first-time visitors who want structure without the highest lodge rates.
The $2,500–$5,000 range is wide because operators may use different room types, vehicle plans, and activity mixes. Ask whether the quote covers airport pickup, guide services, park fees, and every transfer. Also ask if the price is per person sharing or for a private room.
Luxury Rwanda travel uses private vehicles, premium lodges, flexible schedules, and more personal service. High-end itineraries may also combine Rwanda with Kenya, Tanzania, or other destinations. A 17-day multi-country itinerary that includes Rwanda starts at $19,200. [4]
Luxury pricing is not a simple upgrade fee. It can include private guides, premium rooms, extra flights, longer stays, and special activities. Therefore, compare the daily plan as closely as the headline price.
Need to keep costs within a set limit? Compare Rwanda safari packages by price and duration and request an itemized quote from a verified operator before you pay a deposit.
A Rwanda safari quote should list accommodation, meals, permits, guided activities, and local transport. A mid-range seven- to 10-day estimate includes these core items, including a gorilla trekking permit. [1] A quote that leaves out one major item can look cheaper than the final trip cost.
Gorilla permits are the most important fixed cost for many visitors. One permit costs $1,500 for people visiting from outside Africa. Discount rules may apply to Rwandan citizens, other African citizens, East African residents, and some foreign residents. [5] Confirm your eligibility before relying on a discount.
Accommodation forms the next major part of a Rwanda safari budget. The available research gives a total mid-range estimate, rather than one fixed hotel rate. Ask your operator for the lodge name, room type, number of nights, and meal plan.
Transport also affects the quote. Local transport is included in the budget estimate and the mid-range estimate. [1][2] However, private vehicles, extra transfers, and a faster travel pace can raise the total.
Travel documents deserve early attention. Canadian travelers can review the current Rwanda visa guidance for Canadian citizens. German travelers can check both the Rwanda visa requirements for German citizens and the latest health rules.
Two seven-day itineraries can show different prices even when both include gorilla trekking. One may use shared transport and standard rooms. The other may use a private vehicle, premium lodging, and more flexible transfers.
Ask each operator the same five questions:
The best way to plan a Rwanda safari is to set a total budget first, then choose the trip style. Start with the permit if gorilla trekking is essential. Next, set the number of days, lodging level, transport type, and activities.
Gorilla trekking creates the clearest budget floor. At $1,500 per permit, it takes a large share of a short trip budget. [5] Travelers who want a lower total can compare short wildlife trips or itineraries that do not include trekking.
Families and first-time visitors often prefer a mid-range plan. The $2,500–$5,000 estimate covers seven to 10 days and includes the main safari services. [1] Couples seeking privacy may prefer a shorter luxury stay instead of a longer standard trip.
A three-day plan limits lodging and transfer costs. The budget estimate of $632–$2,880 includes flights, transport, food, and activities. [2] A seven- to 10-day plan gives more time for a wider itinerary, but it adds nights and guide services.
East African safari prices range from $150 to more than $1,500 per person per day. Mid-range travel averages $350–$700 per day across the region. [3] Use this daily range as context, then ask for a Rwanda-specific quote.
Permit availability can affect your dates and your final plan. Read the current Rwanda national park fees and availability guide before choosing a travel window.
Health planning also matters. British travelers can review the current Rwanda vaccination and health rules. German travelers should use the dedicated health guidance for their nationality. These checks can help prevent last-minute changes.
Use a simple comparison sheet. Record the permit status, room type, meal plan, vehicle, transfers, and cancellation terms. Then compare the total price for the same number of travelers and nights.
SafariFind helps travelers compare verified tour operators and read authentic reviews. Look for clear inclusions and a useful day-by-day plan. A transparent quote is often more valuable than the lowest headline price.
A Rwanda safari costs about $632–$2,880 for a budget three-day trip. A mid-range seven- to 10-day safari costs $2,500–$5,000 per person. Luxury travel can reach $32,200, depending on lodging, transport, activities, and trip length. [1][2]
A gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda costs $1,500 for visitors from outside Africa. Discounted rates may apply to Rwandan citizens, other African citizens, East African residents, and some foreign residents. Confirm the current rule before booking. [5]
A mid-range Rwanda safari estimate includes comfortable accommodation, gorilla trekking permits, guided wildlife tours, meals, and local transportation. The reported price is $2,500–$5,000 per person for seven to 10 days in 2026–2027. [1] Always check the exact inclusions in your quote.
Yes, a budget three-day Rwanda trip is estimated at $632–$2,880. This range includes flights, local transport, food, and activities. [2] Gorilla trekking can raise the total sharply because the permit alone costs $1,500 for most international visitors.
A Rwanda safari can last three days for a short visit or seven to 10 days for a fuller itinerary. The seven- to 10-day mid-range estimate includes gorilla trekking, wildlife tours, meals, accommodation, and local transport. [1] Your ideal length depends on your activities and budget.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, safari packages, and authentic reviews. Compare the permit status, price, duration, inclusions, and traveler feedback before you choose an operator.
A Rwanda safari costs $632–$2,880 for a budget three-day visit and $2,500–$5,000 for a mid-range seven- to 10-day itinerary. [1][2] Luxury trips can reach $32,200. The $1,500 gorilla permit is the key cost for most international trekkers. [5]
Choose a budget trip when time and price matter most. Choose mid-range travel when you want comfortable lodging and several guided activities. Choose luxury travel when private service, premium rooms, and flexible plans matter more than the total.

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"

"I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big cats in Queen Elizabeth, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the rare Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp. The itinerary was well thought out, and everything ran smoothly. I flew into Kigali, Rwanda, which I highly recommend if you're heading to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi — much closer and more convenient than Entebbe. If photography is your priority, I also suggest booking two gorilla treks or considering Mgahinga. I only did one, and while it was incredible to see them, capturing strong images was difficult. The rainforest is thick, lighting tricky, and your movement limited — just something to keep in mind. Mozes, my guide, was outstanding. He’s punctual, safe, knowledgeable, and has a clear love for wildlife. He studied tourism, understands photography, and even shared stories from past conservation work, like relocating giraffes from Murchison Falls to Kidepo. He always positioned the car for the best angles and made the drives smooth and productive. Our first stop was Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, just five minutes from Rushaga Gate. The lodge was cozy, well-designed, and mosquito-free, with great coffee and local food — an ideal base for gorilla trekking. In Queen Elizabeth, we had four full days of game drives. I like to go hard on photography, so we were out from sunrise to sunset. One major perk with GoExplore is you can plan your own drive schedule within park hours (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). On our first day, we stayed until closing — the only car left in Kasenyi Plains. That kind of flexibility made a huge difference. I also recommend the optional lion and leopard tracking. You’re still in your private vehicle, but a tracker joins you and leads off-road directly to the cats. We spent nearly four hours with a leopard and her cubs in a cactus tree — truly a dream scenario for any photographer. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale was another highlight. The chimps came down from the trees and moved through the forest, and we followed them. The one-hour viewing stretched to 2.5 hours. For photography, it’s better to wait until they’re on the ground — the real action happens there. On the final day, we went to Mabamba Swamp to see the Shoebill. From a photography standpoint, it’s the best place in Africa to photograph this rare bird. The canoe brings you to water level, with clean backgrounds and soft light — a perfect setup. Uganda in late May was lush, green, and surprisingly dry — just one short rainstorm. The scenery, wildlife, and people made it a beautiful place to explore. If you’re considering Uganda, book with GoExplore — and if you can, request Mozes. His experience and attention to detail made the entire trip not just productive, but truly enjoyable. Huge thanks to Brian and Mozes for making it all happen!"

"GoExplore (Brian) provided a magical memorable trip for us to Rwanda. From our first communication via email and whatsapp, they were able to layout an itinerary that fit our needs. They delivered on all aspects of the trip. The 3 guides we met in various locations were just outstanding. It was my wife's birthday and I mentioned that and at each dinner we ended up with a cake and the staff singing. We were so appreciative. I would tell others to use them without hesitation."
