A 1956 lodge, a private family villa, and raised tents near permanent water show Zambia’s wide range of safari stays.
Where to Stay on a Zambia Safari in 2026: 7 Lodge Picks includes South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, Kafue, and Victoria Falls options. South Luangwa lodge prices range from $900 to $3,500, while Kafue prices reach $4,000 or more. Choose your lodge by park, travel style, group size, and the wildlife experience you want.
Where to Stay on a Zambia Safari in 2026: 7 Lodge Picks is a practical guide to Zambia’s main safari areas. Zambia rewards travelers who choose the lodge first, then build the route around it. A South Luangwa camp creates a different trip from a Zambezi riverside lodge. Kafue also offers a more remote setting.
Zambia safari lodges are not one single product. They include historic camps, raised safari tents, river lodges, luxury villas, and private-use houses. Therefore, your choice affects your game drives, walking time, transfer needs, and total budget.
Quick answer: The best Zambia safari lodge depends on your main goal. Choose Nsefu Camp for history, Shumba Safari Camp for raised tents near water, Chongwe House for private family use, and riverside options such as Mukwa River Lodge or Tongabezi Lodge for a Livingstone stay. Compare park prices before you commit.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. You can use the SafariFind catalog to compare safari packages, ask questions, and check whether a lodge fits your route. For wider planning, the guide to five ways to compare Zambia safari tours in 2026 explains the main booking checks.
The seven lodge picks cover three major safari regions and the Victoria Falls gateway. They suit different travelers rather than one “best” type of visitor. Use the list below to match each property with your preferred setting, group size, and safari pace.
Nsefu Camp sits in South Luangwa National Park and has a notable place in Zambia’s safari story. Norman Carr built it in 1956, and it became the first safari lodge in the park. [1] That history gives the camp a strong sense of place.
Known for: Historic roots and South Luangwa wildlife. Best for: Travelers who value classic safari character and a link to early conservation tourism. The supplied 2026 pricing table places South Luangwa budget lodges at $900–$1,200 per person, before any package details change the final cost. [3]
Time + Tide Chinzombo is a luxury choice for travelers who want a polished camp experience in Zambia. The supplied research identifies it as a luxury option for a 2026 Zambia safari. Its appeal suits guests who place comfort, design, and a high-end camp setting ahead of a low price.
Known for: Luxury safari accommodation. Best for: Couples, honeymooners, and travelers seeking a premium South Luangwa experience. South Luangwa luxury lodge prices appear at $2,500–$3,500 in the supplied 2026 table. [3]
Mukwa River Lodge is a riverside lodge in Livingstone, set along the Zambezi near Victoria Falls. The Hotel Guru describes its style as classic-meets-modern, with bush-chic interiors and timeless design. [2] This makes it a natural fit for travelers combining a safari with a Victoria Falls visit.
Known for: A Zambezi riverside setting near Livingstone. Best for: Guests who want a lodge base before or after a safari. Victoria Falls accommodation ranges from $215 per person for budget options to $400–$700 for luxury options in the supplied 2026 pricing table. [3]
Tongabezi Lodge is included in the 2026 research as a luxury Zambia stay. It belongs on a shortlist for travelers who want time beside the Zambezi and easy planning around Livingstone. It can work well as part of a wider journey rather than as a replacement for a national park camp.
Known for: A luxury riverside experience in the Livingstone area. Best for: Couples, special trips, and guests adding Victoria Falls to a safari route. Compare the lodge portion with park stays, because the two areas provide different activities and wildlife settings.
Nsefu Camp appears twice in this guide because it meets two useful planning needs. It is both the historic first lodge in South Luangwa and a possible choice for travelers comparing lower-cost park stays. The lodge’s story adds value beyond room style, especially for visitors interested in safari history.
South Luangwa also suits travelers who want a focused wildlife stay. The supplied table lists the park as a leopard-focused destination, while its budget, mid-range, and luxury bands cover $900–$1,200, $1,500–$2,000, and $2,500–$3,500. [3] Check the exact package inclusions before comparing rates.
Waterberry Lodge is identified in the research as a budget option for a Zambia trip. It is useful for travelers who want to control accommodation costs while keeping a lodge experience in the plan. Treat it as a starting point for a quote, then confirm location, transfers, meals, and activities.
Known for: Budget-friendly positioning in the supplied lodge research. Best for: Travelers watching costs, first-time visitors, and itineraries that combine several stops. A lower lodge rate does not always mean a lower trip cost, because flights, transfers, park fees, and activities may add to the total.
Shumba Safari Camp sits in northern Kafue National Park and has six raised safari tents near permanent water. [6] This small scale can appeal to travelers who want a tented camp feel and a setting close to a reliable water source.
Known for: Six raised tents near permanent water. Best for: Guests seeking a remote Kafue camp and a traditional safari atmosphere. Kafue budget lodges cost $900–$1,200 in the supplied 2026 table, while luxury options cost $2,000–$4,000 or more. [3]
Chongwe House is another strong choice when privacy matters more than a standard room layout. The property is described as a private villa suited to families or groups booking exclusive-use accommodation. [4] It belongs on a shortlist for multi-generational trips, friend groups, or guests who want shared space.
Compare Zambia safari lodge packages and request quotes from verified operators
Lodge location changes the wildlife setting, transfer plan, and activities available on your Zambia safari. South Luangwa centers the trip on a classic park stay. Kafue offers a remote camp setting. Lower Zambezi adds river scenery, while Livingstone works best as a Victoria Falls stop.
South Luangwa National Park is the clearest choice for travelers focused on leopard sightings in the supplied 2026 lodge table. [3] Nsefu Camp gives the area historic depth, while Time + Tide Chinzombo suits a more luxurious stay.
Choose South Luangwa when wildlife viewing is your top priority. Ask each operator how many nights the package includes, which activities are covered, and how transfers work. The guide to 12 Zambia safari animals you can see in 2026 can help you set realistic wildlife goals before booking.
Kafue National Park is the right match for travelers who want a remote safari setting. Shumba Safari Camp offers six raised tents near permanent water in northern Kafue. [6] That detail matters because camp size and water access shape the feel of a stay.
Kafue prices span three clear bands in the supplied table. Budget lodges cost $900–$1,200, mid-range lodges cost $1,200–$1,800, and luxury lodges cost $2,000–$4,000 or more. [3] Therefore, Kafue can fit both value-led and high-end plans.
Lower Zambezi is a strong choice for travelers who want a river-based safari setting. The supplied 2026 table lists budget lodges at $900–$1,500, mid-range lodges at $1,500–$2,200, and luxury lodges at $1,500–$3,000. [3]
Chongwe House works especially well for families or groups seeking exclusive use. [4] Before booking, ask whether the villa rate covers the whole property, how many guests it sleeps, and which river or land activities the operator includes.
Victoria Falls accommodation gives your Zambia itinerary a famous landmark stop alongside safari time. Mukwa River Lodge provides a riverside Livingstone option near the falls, while Tongabezi Lodge suits travelers seeking a luxury Zambezi base. [2]
The supplied 2026 table lists Victoria Falls rates at $215 per person for budget stays, $300–$400 for mid-range stays, and $400–$700 for luxury stays. [3] Use Livingstone for a shorter stay before or after your main wildlife camp.
Location also affects safety and comfort planning. Read the practical guide to Zambia safari safety for first-time visitors before you choose remote camps or multi-stop routes.
Zambia safari lodge costs range from about $900 to $4,000 or more in the supplied 2026 pricing table. The exact figure depends on the park, lodge level, room type, and package inclusions. Treat these figures as planning bands, then request a written quote with all costs shown.
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nsefu Camp | South Luangwa budget band: $900–$1,200 | Confirm with operator | Not supplied | History and classic park stays |
| Time + Tide Chinzombo | South Luangwa luxury band: $2,500–$3,500 | Confirm with operator | Not supplied | Luxury design and premium service |
| Mukwa River Lodge | Victoria Falls bands: $215–$700 | Confirm with operator | Not supplied | Riverside Livingstone stays |
| Tongabezi Lodge | Victoria Falls luxury band: $400–$700 | Confirm with operator | Not supplied | Luxury Zambezi add-ons |
| Waterberry Lodge | Budget position; confirm quote | Confirm with operator | Not supplied | Cost-conscious lodge trips |
| Shumba Safari Camp | Kafue budget band: $900–$1,200 | Confirm with operator | Not supplied | Raised tents and remote Kafue |
| Chongwe House | Lower Zambezi band; confirm quote | Confirm with operator | Not supplied | Families and private groups |
These figures do not create a final trip budget by themselves. Ask whether the quote includes meals, game drives, walking activities, park fees, internal flights, road transfers, drinks, and laundry. A package with a higher nightly rate may offer better value if it includes more activities.
Price range: South Luangwa runs from $900–$1,200 for budget lodges to $2,500–$3,500 for luxury lodges. Kafue runs from $900–$1,200 for budget lodges to $2,000–$4,000 or more for luxury lodges. [3] Victoria Falls offers the widest simple entry point at $215 per person. [3]
Use the detailed guide to Zambia safari price ranges in 2026 when setting your overall budget. Then compare the same number of nights and the same inclusions across operators.
Compare Zambia safari operators for your budget and request a detailed lodge quote
Start by choosing your main safari goal, then select the park and lodge that support it. A simple plan compares location, price, room style, activities, and transfers. This method prevents you from choosing a beautiful lodge that does not fit your route or group.
Decide what you want to remember most. Choose Nsefu Camp for historic character, Shumba Safari Camp for raised tents near permanent water, or Chongwe House for private group space. Select Mukwa River Lodge or Tongabezi Lodge when Victoria Falls and the Zambezi form part of your plan.
Couples often want privacy and comfort. Families need safe shared space, simple transfers, and flexible meal options. Chongwe House is specifically suited to families or groups booking exclusive use. [4] Small camps such as Shumba Safari Camp can suit travelers who prefer a quieter setting.
Keep the route simple. One main park plus Livingstone can create a more relaxed trip than several short stops. Ask the operator how guests move between camps. A low room rate may lose its value if the transfer takes too long or requires an extra flight.
Compare like with like. A lodge rate should show the room, meals, activities, park fees, and transfers. If one quote includes daily game drives and another does not, the cheaper quote is not a fair comparison.
SafariFind helps travelers compare verified tour operators and read authentic reviews from previous guests. Look for comments about guides, transfers, communication, food, and the match between the advertised lodge and the delivered stay.
Also consider your arrival point. Livingstone works well for Victoria Falls stays. South Luangwa and Kafue require more careful transfer planning. Therefore, ask for a day-by-day itinerary before you pay a deposit.
Travelers who want a lower total cost can review the guide to seven ways to cut a Zambia safari budget in 2026. Small choices, such as fewer transfers or a longer stay in one area, can make planning easier.
The best place depends on your safari goal. Choose South Luangwa for leopard-focused wildlife and historic Nsefu Camp, Kafue for remote tented stays, Lower Zambezi for private group accommodation, or Livingstone for a riverside base near Victoria Falls.
Zambia safari lodge prices range from $900 to $4,000 or more in the supplied 2026 table. South Luangwa budget lodges cost $900–$1,200, while Kafue luxury lodges cost $2,000–$4,000 or more. Victoria Falls options start at $215 per person. [3]
Chongwe House is best for families or groups that want exclusive-use accommodation. The property is described as a private villa, so it can provide shared space and privacy for a group booking. Confirm capacity, activities, and transfer details with the operator. [4]
Nsefu Camp has the strongest documented history in this guide. Norman Carr built the South Luangwa camp in 1956, and it became the first safari lodge in the park. It suits travelers who value classic safari heritage. [1]
Kafue is a good choice for travelers seeking a remote safari setting. Shumba Safari Camp has six raised safari tents near permanent water in northern Kafue. Kafue lodge prices range from $900–$1,200 for budget stays to $2,000–$4,000 or more for luxury stays. [3][6]

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
