Kruger Walking Safari Packages 2027: Prices and Permits range from US$222 for a half-day Greater Kruger walk to US$4,092 for a six-day trip. Short lodge walks may add US$50 to US$150 per person. May to September is the main safari season, while you should confirm permit details before booking. [1][2][4]
One half-day Greater Kruger walking safari is advertised at US$222 per person for every travel date in 2027. [1]
Kruger Walking Safari Packages 2027: Prices and Permits give you a closer view of the bush than a standard game drive. You walk with trained guides, read tracks, and move at a slower pace. The experience also demands more planning. Walking routes, park access, guide rules, and permits all matter.
This guide separates walking prices from ordinary safari costs. It also explains what the available 2027 figures show and what you need to confirm before booking. The figures use US dollars and South African rand as advertised. Exchange rates can change, so compare the final quote in the currency you will pay.
Quick answer: A half-day Greater Kruger walk costs US$222 in 2027. Longer walking packages can reach US$4,092 for six days. Lodge-based walks often add US$50 to US$150 per person. May to September is the main travel period, but the right dates depend on your comfort, budget, and route. [1][2][4]
Kruger walking safari packages combine guided walks with accommodation, transfers, meals, or game drives, depending on the itinerary. A short walk may fit around an existing lodge stay. A longer package may build the whole trip around walking in Greater Kruger private reserves. [1][5]
Kruger National Park is South Africa's best-known safari area, and the wider Greater Kruger region adds private reserves beside the park. The walking format changes the pace. You spend more time watching tracks, plants, insects, birds, and small signs of animal movement.
Greater Kruger walking trails list a half-day option at US$222 per person for travel between 1 January and 31 December 2027. [1] The same market also shows longer choices, with six-day walking packages reaching US$4,092. [1]
Balule walking safari listings include eight walking packages across several trip lengths. [1] Balule is therefore useful for travellers who want a guided walk without treating the walk as a brief add-on. You can compare short and multi-day plans before choosing your pace.
Walking safaris usually focus on the ground beneath your feet. Guides may point out tracks, dung, broken branches, bird calls, and changes in animal behaviour. These details can feel more personal than viewing wildlife from a vehicle, but walking also requires quiet movement and patience.
A walking package can solve several planning problems. Your operator can arrange a guide, route, accommodation, transfers, and activity times in one plan. That matters when you are travelling between Johannesburg, Hoedspruit, private reserves, and the park area.
However, a walking trip is not simply a cheaper game drive. It is a different experience. You should ask how much walking the package includes, whether a vehicle safari is included, and whether the listed price covers park entry or only the activity.
Compare 2027 Kruger walking safari packages by duration and price before you choose a route, lodge, or operator.
Kruger walking safari prices range from US$222 for a half-day Greater Kruger walk to US$4,092 for a six-day package. Lodge-based walks may add US$50 to US$150 per person to the daily lodge rate. Full safari packages can cost much more when they include accommodation, transfers, and luxury services. [1][2]
| Package type | Advertised price | Duration | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Greater Kruger walking safari | US$222 per person | Half day | Travellers adding a walk to an existing stay |
| Short lodge bush walk | US$50 to US$150 extra | About three hours | Guests who want a brief guided walk |
| Long Greater Kruger walking package | Up to US$4,092 | Six days | Travellers planning a walking-led safari |
| Kruger family package | About ZAR25,000 per person | Package length depends on itinerary | Families seeking private accommodation and guiding |
| Kruger safari marketplace package | From ZAR18,995 | Package length depends on itinerary | Travellers comparing budget and luxury choices |
The table shows why the word “safari” needs more detail. A US$222 walk is an activity price. A ZAR18,995 package may cover a broader itinerary. A six-day package at US$4,092 reflects more nights, guiding, transport, and lodge services. Always compare what each price includes before judging value.
Open-vehicle safari rates for 1 November 2026 through 31 October 2027 list R3,145 per person for a full-day drive and R2,520 for a morning drive. [6] These rates offer a useful benchmark, but they do not replace a walking quote. Walking packages use different guide time, routes, access rules, and lodge arrangements.
A three-hour bush walk in Kruger or Laikipia typically adds US$50 to US$150 per person to a lodge stay. [2] That option suits travellers who already have accommodation. It may cost less than a walking-led trip because the lodge remains the main booking.
One Kruger marketplace advertises more than 95 packages, ranging from budget camping to luxury fly-in trips, with prices from ZAR18,995. [8] Request a quote for Kruger walking packages under your 2027 budget and ask operators to list every included cost.
Every Kruger walking safari needs advance confirmation of access, guide arrangements, and the rules for the chosen route. Permit fees and procedures depend on whether you walk inside Kruger National Park, in Greater Kruger, or in a private reserve. Ask the operator to confirm the current 2027 requirements in writing.
Kruger National Park and Greater Kruger are related but different booking settings. A walk inside the national park may follow park rules and access systems. A walk in a private reserve may use that reserve's own guides, roads, boundaries, and guest arrangements.
This difference affects the price and the paperwork. A package that says “Kruger” may use a private reserve beside the park rather than the national park itself. Read the itinerary carefully. Look for the exact reserve name, walking area, meeting point, and activity duration.
The available 2027 price information does not provide a fixed Kruger walking permit fee or one universal permit process. [1][7] Therefore, do not assume that a quoted walk includes every park charge. Ask for a written breakdown before you pay.
Permit details affect more than paperwork. They can change the meeting time, route, cost, and number of guests allowed on a walk. They also help you understand who controls the activity. A clear operator should explain the access plan before you book.
SafariFind connects travellers with verified tour operators and authentic traveller reviews. Use those details to compare how operators describe walking routes, inclusions, and booking terms. Compare verified Kruger safari operators and read traveller reviews before sending payment.
Wear closed shoes with firm soles, light layers, a hat, and neutral colours. Carry water, sunscreen, binoculars, and a small day pack. Your guide should explain the route and safety rules before you leave. Follow that briefing closely. Walking in wildlife country rewards calm attention, not speed.
The best Kruger walking safari depends on your walking time, budget, fitness, comfort level, and interest in game drives. Start with the activity itself, then check the lodge, transfers, access area, and permit arrangements. A cheaper package is not better if it leaves key costs unclear.
A half-day walk works well when you already booked a lodge or vehicle safari. It gives you a taste of walking without changing the whole trip. The advertised Greater Kruger half-day price is US$222 per person in 2027. [1]
A multi-day walking package suits travellers who want the bush to shape each day. Six-day options can reach US$4,092, so compare the number of walking days with the total nights and services. [1] You may prefer a shorter walk plus several game drives.
May to September is listed as the main South Africa safari period. [4] These months often appeal to travellers who want a classic dry-season safari plan. However, the best month depends on your preferred weather, price, and activity mix.
Ask operators how the season affects walking conditions. Request clear answers about heat, rain, trail access, and daily start times. A walking safari feels very different at dawn than during the hottest part of the day.
Kruger safari packages can range from ZAR18,995 to luxury stays above ZAR56,000, depending on the trip style and accommodation. [8] A private family package is advertised at about ZAR25,000 per person. [3] These figures show why two packages with the same number of days can have very different prices.
| Check before booking | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Walking hours | Shows whether the package is a true walking trip or a short add-on |
| Accommodation | Separates camping, standard lodge, and private villa costs |
| Transport | Shows whether airport or Johannesburg transfers are included |
| Park access | Helps you identify extra entry or conservation charges |
| Game drives | Shows how much vehicle time sits alongside walking |

A Kruger walking safari needs basic fitness, practical clothing, and respect for guide instructions. You do not need to be an athlete, but you should feel comfortable walking outdoors for several hours. Tell the operator about health needs, mobility limits, and medication before travel.
Walking routes may include uneven ground, sand, stones, grass, and slopes. Break in your shoes before the trip. Pack light, because a small day pack is easier to carry than a heavy bag.
Your guide leads the walk and sets the pace. Stay behind the guide, keep quiet when asked, and never move toward an animal. Do not leave the group to take a photograph or inspect tracks.
The guide may change the route when conditions change. That is part of responsible wildlife travel. A safe walk depends on good decisions, not on getting close to the largest animal.
Reviews can reveal whether an operator explains costs clearly, keeps to agreed times, and matches the advertised activity. Look for comments about guides, transfers, lodge standards, and communication. SafariFind lists verified operators and authentic reviews, so you can compare more than a headline price.
South Africa has many safari styles beyond Kruger. You can compare trips in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve or review wider pricing in the Kruger safari packages booking guide. These comparisons help you decide whether walking is your main activity or one part of a larger trip.
Walking packages often work best when you allow time for transfers. Do not schedule a long drive immediately after a morning walk unless the operator confirms the timing. Add a spare night when flights, road transfers, or weather could affect your plan.
Families may prefer private arrangements and shorter walks. Solo travellers may prefer shared departures that lower the price. Couples often choose a lodge-based walk, then add a full-day vehicle safari for wider wildlife viewing.
Kruger walking safari packages cost US$222 for an advertised half-day Greater Kruger walk and up to US$4,092 for a six-day option. A short lodge walk may add US$50 to US$150 per person. Accommodation, transfers, park access, and game drives can raise the total. [1][2]
May to September is the main South Africa safari period listed for Kruger and nearby private reserves. These months are a common choice for safari planning, but you should compare weather, activity times, and package prices for your exact dates. [4]
Kruger walking safari permits and access charges depend on the route and booking area. A walk inside Kruger National Park may follow different arrangements from a walk in a Greater Kruger private reserve. Ask the operator to confirm the current 2027 permit plan and all included fees.
Kruger walking safaris range from short three-hour walks and half-day activities to multi-day trips lasting six days. A half-day option suits travellers with an existing lodge booking. Longer packages suit guests who want walking to form the main part of the safari. [1][2]
Kruger walking safaris suit beginners who can follow guide instructions and walk outdoors for several hours. Guides set the pace, explain safety rules, and choose the route. Ask about walking distance, ground conditions, group arrangements, and the guide plan before booking.
Book by comparing verified operators, package inclusions, reviews, prices, and access arrangements. SafariFind helps travellers compare safari packages and request quotes from verified operators. Check the exact reserve, walking hours, permit plan, transfers, and cancellation terms before you pay.
Kruger walking safari packages in 2027 cost US$222 for an advertised half-day Greater Kruger walk and up to US$4,092 for six days. [1] Short lodge walks can add US$50 to US$150 per person, while wider Kruger packages start near ZAR18,995 on one marketplace. [2][8]
The right choice depends on how much time you want on foot. Choose a half-day walk for a first taste. Choose a multi-day plan when walking, guiding, and lodge time are the main reason for your trip. May to September is the main safari period listed for the region. [4]

"We made our reservations with 50% down-payment way back in Feb-26, 4 months before our trip in June and balance 50% one month before departure from Singapore. We were not sure and worried a bit whether things would turn out as described and promised, as this is our first ever trip to South Africa. All our worries disappeared from the moment we were picked up upon arrival according to the itinerary, and subsequent daily trips were excellent in view of timing, routes, transports, accommodations, meals, and to the local guides and drivers assigned. Everything is above and beyond our expectations, and we sincerely thank Safari Tailors for providing us such a memorable trip of our life!"
"Communications with Mack via email were swift and comprehensible. We were picked up at the airport on arrival by our guide, Thomas, who would be with us for the whole week. We signed up for a budget camping safari, and we had a great time! The campsites were nicer than I thought they would be, and the Kiliholidays team did a great job of taking care of us the whole trip. Thomas was very accommodating, and our 'stomach engineer' did a fantastic job the whole trip. My partner and I were very impressed by the quality of the food. Thomas was an incredible driver; a few times we had to stop and help other drivers who were stuck! This was my second visit to East Africa, and I will definitely book with Kiliholidays for my third trip :) A few tips for other travelers: The sleeping mattress was a bit thin for me (my partner had no trouble!), but I found that sleeping on my back instead of my side helped. If you have sensitive hips, I'd recommend bringing something to use as a cushion, or possibly arranging for an extra mattress. The tent was high-quality and the sleeping bags were warm. We stayed in Mto wa Mbu a few nights and it was quite hot there. We brought sleeping sacks (very thin) and used those instead. Bring LOTS of insect repellent and use it often (biting flies in the daytime, mosquitoes at night). Same with hand sanitizer (public campsite toilets don't usually have soap). Granola bars are a good idea, too, if you like to snack between meals. There's not a lot of access to ice, so if you like an evening adult-beverage, just ask your guide to stop before you leave Arusha to pick up some wine. We picked up a 5-liter box of South African wine for about 25euros and it was very convenient (bring your own cups!)."
"This is the second time I have traveled with my family with GoExplore. The first time was an amazing Uganda experience (already reviewed) and this second experience with my husband to Kenya was equally amazing. Brian organized organized both tours for me and tailored them according to my wishes. As this is still the time of unsure flights and Covid difficulties, he was easily able to adapt to some changes with travel that were beyond our control. GoExplore is a boutique business that is very personalized and offers you the equal and more than a large corporate operator. The price point is compatible with group tours but you will have your own personal driver and guide for yourself and there is nothing to compare with this luxury. Because of that, you will also be able to adapt your days schedule if you wish according what you want and not what is a groups plan. We were completely happy and satisfied with all aspects of our travel (on both trips). Brian knows the safari tour industry and is constantly working to improve the business, his knowledge about lodges, the parks, restaurants and all minute aspects of the tour. He will be able to personally attest to the quality of whatever product he is recommending to you. Sammi was our driver in Kenya and we can only say that he was amazing. He knew more about wildlife (and every birds name and details) than an encyclopedia, was an amazingly adept driver in sometimes rough conditions (traffic, rough park roads, etc.) and looked out for our interests. While respecting the animals, he went above and beyond trying to make sure we saw every different animal we could. We appreciated that he obviously respected and cared about the animals we were seeing. (Not all safari drivers do and will do anything to try to get to see something up close, even while encroaching too much on their space.) We had a minor vehicle difficulty and Sammi made sure that everything went smoothly and we didn't miss a minute of our trip or schedule. He is quite an asset to GoExplore. Sammi only drives on Kenya trips but if you go to Uganda, I highly recommend Moses who was equally great. Overall, the trip was an unforgettable trip of a lifetime. If you haven't gone on a safari before, you should trip to put this on your life plan. There is nothing like it and when you plan it, you want a safari operator that will listen to your needs, wants, and budget and tailor it to fit you. GoExplore will do that in a personal way. Our lodges that Brian picked were magical and the food was outstanding. There was nothing about our trip that we would have changed. I highly recommend GoExplore if you want to travel to any of the countries they operate in. If not those countries, then reconsider them over the more commercialized ones (such as South Africa) and you won't be disappointed."
"We just finished a 2-week tour of South Africa with extension to Victoria Falls and the Monde Village Cultural Experience was one of the highlights of the entire trip. It is a must-do for anyone in the area. Tongesai (our guide) was very personable and worked with us to customize the experience. He was flexible and took time to explain many things that aren't part of the "regular tour". We had great conversations throughout the tour. He ended up dropping us off so late (8:30pm), his wife had to call him twice. He took a few pictures with us so he had alibi. :) Mr Ncube (our village host) and his family were welcoming and excited to show us their way of life. Mr Ncube's explanations of his culture, family structure, farming struggles, and discussions on many topics showed us a simple way of life, much different than our modern American ways, but it made so much sense. People here fight hard to live but they do it with a smile. They may be poor, but not in spirit. We asked many questions and received questions ourselves. It was as if I was visiting an uncle living in a rural part of a third-world country. This family made us felt at home. We wish we had more time to sit under the summer kitchen during a raining day, sharing food and chatting with these folks. We wish we could sit in the winter kitchen to hear him teach his children and grandchildren. Needless to say, we spent 4+ hrs at this experience and wanted more. I am now back to "civilization" in a nice Qatari hotel, but I kept thinking about my time in the simple Monde Village. What a breath of fresh air that was. I brought some extra clothes to give, but ended up giving as much as I could live without for the rest of my trip. A pair of sandals doesn't mean much to me, but it means a lot to people in these villages. This is 30+ hrs flight from home so it is a one-time chance to help; I had to make the best of it. If I can come back to this area, I will definitely bring more people to share in this amazing experience. I encourage all who come to Victoria Falls to add this cultural experience to their itinerary."
