At a glance
Cost: About US$150 per person per day for general budget camping safaris, up to US$1,350 per person per night for luxury lodge stays
Best time: June to October for the Busanga Plains and dry-season game viewing
Park size: About 22,400 square kilometres

Kafue National Park covers about 22,400 square kilometres, yet visitor numbers remain tiny beside East Africa's famous safari circuits. [5] That contrast is the first thing to understand when comparing lodge prices. You are paying for space, remote access, and a quieter safari, not a crowded game-drive route.
The best Kafue National Park lodges 2027 rates by budget sit across a wide price spread. General Zambia camping safaris start at about US$150 per person per day, while Chisa Busanga Camp lists US$1,055 to US$1,350 per person per night. [1][2] These figures describe very different trips.
This guide separates the options into budget, mid-range, upscale, and luxury levels. It also explains when each area works best, what the quoted rates cover, and how to avoid comparing a camping rate with a fully inclusive lodge rate. For trip ideas beyond Kafue, read this guide to the best time for a Kafue safari in 2027.
Prices for 2027 depend on the camp, travel month, park access, flights, and the number of nights. Treat the figures below as planning bands, then check the full package details before paying a deposit.
What are the best Kafue National Park lodges 2027 rates by budget?
The best Kafue National Park lodges for 2027 fall into four useful price groups. Budget camping begins at about US$150 per person per day as a general Zambia guide. Musanza Camp is around US$400 per night. Kafue River Lodge sits around US$390 to US$490 per person per night. Chisa Busanga Camp and Wilderness Shumba occupy the luxury end. [1][2][7]
Budget camping and simple safari stays
Budget Zambia camping safaris start at approximately US$150 per person per day. [2] This is a general Zambia figure, not a fixed Kafue lodge rate. It works best for travellers who care more about time in the park than private rooms, pools, or premium dining.
A budget safari can still offer strong wildlife value. Kafue's large size creates room for long game drives and quiet tracks. However, low-cost trips may use basic campsites, shared facilities, or fewer included services. Ask whether meals, guiding, park fees, transfers, and activities sit inside the advertised rate.
Mid-range lodges
Musanza Camp offers a useful mid-range reference at about US$400 per night. Kafue River Lodge lists rates between US$390 and US$490 per person per night. These prices suit travellers who want a fixed lodge, guided drives, and more comfort without moving into the top luxury bracket.
Mid-range pricing needs careful reading. A nightly figure may apply to one person, two people sharing, or a full package. It may also change by season. Compare the rate basis before deciding that one lodge costs less than another.
Upscale and luxury camps
Chisa Busanga Camp lists fully inclusive rates of US$1,055 to US$1,350 per person per night. [1] The camp uses solar-powered, eco-friendly “nests” and offers birdwatching, stargazing, silent safaris, and bush walks. This is a specialist stay for people who value design, privacy, and a complete camp experience.
Wilderness Shumba Safari Camp has six raised safari tents near a permanent watering hole in the Busanga Plains. [7] Its small size gives the camp a private feel. The location also places you close to one of Kafue's best-known wildlife areas.

Kafue lodge prices differ because camps sit in remote areas and sell different levels of service. A budget camping rate covers a simple base for exploring. A luxury rate can include private accommodation, meals, guided activities, transfers, and a small camp with limited guest numbers.
Location changes the cost
The Busanga Plains flood during the rainy season. Large lion prides and red lechwe return around June, after the water recedes. [5] That timing makes the northern plains especially attractive for travellers who want open floodplain views and focused wildlife drives.
Remote camps need more planning than lodges near a major town. Food, fuel, staff, and guest transfers travel farther. A higher nightly rate often reflects that supply chain. It also reflects the short season in which some northern camps can operate easily.
Activities affect the value
Chisa Busanga Camp includes experiences such as silent safaris, bush walks, birdwatching, and stargazing in its camp concept. [1] These activities make the rate different from a room-only price. Ask which activities run daily and which depend on water levels, guides, or weather.
Mukambi Safari Lodge is described as an owner-run lodge and a first stop for exploring the large Kafue National Park. [4] It can suit travellers who want a lodge base before moving deeper into the park. A multi-lodge route may cost more, but it can show different habitats.
Wildlife timing affects value
Kafue's Busanga Plains are a strong choice from about June onward, once seasonal water recedes. [5] Southern Kafue also offers a different wildlife story. Wild dog dens were reported around Ngoma during September. [5] Travellers who care about wild dogs should ask operators about current sightings rather than rely on a general lodge label.
Read SafariFind package details with the season in mind. A camp that costs more in peak dry months may provide better access to the wildlife experience you want. A lower rate in another month may offer fewer roads, more water, or a different activity mix.
Choose a Kafue lodge by setting your budget, wildlife goal, travel dates, and comfort needs first. Then compare what each rate includes. This simple order prevents a common mistake: booking a cheap-looking price that excludes park fees, transfers, meals, or guided drives.
Start with your budget
Travellers with about US$150 per person per day should begin with camping and broad Zambia budget packages. [2] Travellers with US$390 to US$490 per person per night can look at mid-range lodge options such as Kafue River Lodge. Luxury travellers should plan for US$1,055 or more per person per night.
Build a separate allowance for flights, transfers, tips, drinks, and travel insurance. The quoted lodge rate may not cover every part of the journey. Ask for one written total so you can compare packages fairly.
Match the lodge to your wildlife goal
Busanga Plains lions: Choose a northern camp with access after the plains dry, often from June.
Red lechwe: Focus on Busanga Plains timing and water conditions.
Wild dogs: Ask about southern Kafue and Ngoma sightings around September.
Quiet photography: Look for small camps and low guest numbers.
Walking and night skies: Check whether bush walks and stargazing form part of the package.
Check access before booking
Getting there: Most Kafue trips require a planned road or air transfer linked to your wider Zambia itinerary. Ask the operator for the transfer time, road condition, luggage limit, and arrival point. Do not assume a lodge's nightly rate includes every transfer between the airport and camp.
Many travellers combine Kafue with Lusaka or Victoria Falls. SafariFind's Livingstone hotel guide can help if you need a practical overnight stop near the falls. You can also compare a Kafue stay with the Lower Zambezi first-timer guide before building a longer route.
What is the practical booking guide for Kafue lodges?
Book a Kafue lodge by confirming dates, rate type, transfers, inclusions, and cancellation terms in writing. October 2026 is a sensible time to plan 2027 travel because peak-season camps can have limited space, especially in remote wildlife areas.
Use this booking checklist
Choose your travel months and target wildlife.
Set a total budget per person, not only a nightly budget.
Ask whether the rate is per person or per room.
Confirm meals, game drives, walks, park fees, and transfers.
Check whether the camp runs during your travel month.
Read recent traveler reviews before paying a deposit.
Keep the quote, payment terms, and cancellation policy.
SafariFind listings make this process easier when you compare verified tour operators and package details together. Look for clear rates, a named operator, and reviews that describe the actual guide service, rooms, vehicles, and transfers.
Plan for the season
June to October is the clearest planning window for Busanga Plains wildlife. [5] The plains flood in the rainy season, then become easier to explore after the water recedes. September also matters for travellers interested in reports of wild dog dens around Ngoma in southern Kafue. [5]
Rainy-season travel can still suit experienced travellers who want a different park mood. Roads and access conditions matter more then. Ask the operator how the camp operates during your chosen month instead of relying on a dry-season itinerary.
Compare like with like
A US$150 camping figure and a US$1,350 fully inclusive lodge figure are not direct substitutes. [1][2] Compare accommodation, meals, activities, transfers, park fees, and guide support. Then decide whether the extra cost buys the experience you actually want.
For wider Zambia planning, you can compare Kafue with Bangweulu Wetlands safari packages. This helps you decide whether to spend more nights in Kafue or add a second wildlife area.

What Travelers Say (SafariFind Reviews)
"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"Our guide Tongesai was incredibly respectful, punctual, and friendly. He also helped us with transfers to and from the airport. The experience of visiting Victoria Falls on the Zambia side was amazing. The scenery is wonderful!!!"
Javier Fragozo•22 June 2026
"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
