Akagera National Park Entry Fees 2027 and Safari Costs depend on nationality, age, residence, and time in the park. International visitors pay US$100 per adult for one day or night, while a three-night entry rate is US$200. A 3-day Akagera safari costs about US$880 to US$3,281 per person. Use verified operators to compare transport, lodging, drives, and boat trips.
One park entry ticket can cost less than the guided drive that makes your wildlife day memorable.
Akagera National Park Entry Fees 2027 and Safari Costs are set by visitor category and trip style. Your final bill may include park entry, vehicle hire, fuel, a guide, lodging, meals, boat trips, and other activities. The entry ticket is only one part of the safari budget.
Akagera National Park covers about 1,122 square kilometres in eastern Rwanda. It is the country’s only savannah park. The park has plains, woodland, lakes, lions, elephants, hippos, and Eastern black rhinos. [3] That mix makes Akagera a useful choice when you want a compact wildlife trip without crossing several borders.
Quick answer: International visitors should budget US$100 per adult for one day or night, US$150 for two nights, or US$200 for three nights. A complete 3-day safari costs about US$880 to US$3,281 per person. Confirm the 2027 rate, vehicle plan, and lodge before paying a deposit.
This guide explains the fee table, total safari costs, extra activities, and booking steps. It also shows where a low park fee can hide a high transport or lodging cost. Prices below use the latest supplied 2026 and 2027 research available in October 2026.
Akagera National Park Entry Fees 2027 and Safari Costs include two separate budgets. The first budget covers permission to enter the park. The second covers the safari service around that entry ticket. Nationality, residence, age, stay length, accommodation, and activities all change the final price.
Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s only savannah park and covers about 1,122 square kilometres. Lions were reintroduced in 2015. Eastern black rhinos followed in 2017. These dates matter because the park now offers a stronger big-game profile than many travelers expect from a small country. [3]
Akagera entry prices vary by nationality, country of residence, age, and length of stay. [2] Therefore, two visitors in the same vehicle may pay different entry amounts. Give your operator each traveler’s passport or residence details before the quote is issued.
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| International adult | US$100 | One day or night | Not applicable | Short park visit |
| International adult | US$150 | Two nights | Not applicable | Two-night safari |
| International adult | US$200 | Three nights | Not applicable | Longer wildlife stay |
| International child | US$50 | One day or night | Not applicable | Family visit |
International visitors pay US$100 per adult and US$50 per child for one day or night. The listed adult rate rises to US$150 for two nights and US$200 for three nights. [2][4] The child rate and eligibility rules should appear in your written booking quote.
The ticket gives you access to the park and self-drive game viewing. Guided drives, boat trips, and other activities cost extra. [4] This distinction is easy to miss when a package advertises a low headline price. Ask whether the quote includes a safari vehicle, driver, guide, fuel, and activity fees.
Compare Akagera safari packages with verified operators before choosing a lodge or vehicle plan.
A complete Akagera safari costs about US$880 to US$3,281 per person for a 3-day trip. [6] The wide range reflects room level, private transport, guide service, meals, and activities. Park entry is a fixed part of the bill, but transport and lodging often decide whether your trip sits near the low or high end.
Akagera safari packages often combine park entry with road transfers, accommodation, meals, game drives, and a guide. The exact list changes by operator. A quote that includes three nights in a lodge will not compare directly with a quote that includes camping or fewer nights.
Value-tier accommodation and safari packages are reported at about US$1,000 to US$2,000 per person per night sharing. A small number of upgraded private options reach about US$2,500 or more. [6] These figures show why a three-day safari quote can vary sharply even when every traveler pays the same park entry fee.
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entry-only visit | US$100 adult | One day or night | Not applicable | Self-drive travelers |
| International park stay | US$150 adult | Two nights | Not applicable | Short guided trip |
| International park stay | US$200 adult | Three nights | Not applicable | Slower wildlife viewing |
| Full 3-day safari | US$880 to US$3,281 | Three days | Operator dependent | Travelers wanting transport and lodging |
Rwandan and EAC citizens have separate rates. The supplied fee data lists RWF 15,000 per adult and RWF 10,000 per child for one day or night, rising to RWF 30,000 for three nights. [2] Check the exact category before booking because citizen and resident rules are not the same.
Annual passes for Rwandan and EAC citizens range from RWF 95,000 for a single pass to RWF 205,000 for a family pass. The supplied list also reports resident annual passes from US$300 for a single pass to US$700 for a family pass. [5]
Need to stay within a set budget? Request quotes for 3-day Akagera safari packages within your price limit and compare what each operator includes.
Start by choosing your traveler category, trip length, and transport style. Then ask for a line-by-line quote. This method separates park fees from safari services and helps you find missing costs before the 2027 booking deadline.
Kigali is the usual planning base for a Rwanda safari. You can add city time before or after Akagera, then arrange a road transfer with your operator. Travelers building a wider route can compare the 7-day Rwanda safari itinerary and cost guide for ideas.
Rwanda’s other parks suit different goals. Volcanoes National Park is associated with mountain gorilla trips, while Akagera focuses on savannah wildlife. The two parks need separate planning, separate travel time, and separate activity budgets.
Book the parts that affect comfort first. Lodge choice, private vehicle use, and trip length usually create larger price changes than the entry ticket. A shared vehicle may lower your cost, while a private vehicle gives you more control over viewing time and route choices.
Keep a written record of entry fees and extras. Save the quote, payment schedule, cancellation terms, and room category. Read traveler feedback before choosing an operator. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, package details, and authentic reviews, so you can compare service as well as price.
Families should check child pricing before travel. International children are listed at US$50 for one day or night, while African visitors outside the EAC are listed at US$25. [2] The child age rule and proof of status should be clear in the final booking documents.
For a broader budget picture, read the guide to Rwanda safari costs per day in 2027. It helps place Akagera beside transport, lodging, and other Rwanda travel costs.
International visitors pay US$100 per adult for one day or night, US$150 for two nights, and US$200 for three nights. International children are listed at US$50 for one day or night. [2][4] Your operator should confirm the current 2027 category and stay period.
A 3-day Akagera safari costs about US$880 to US$3,281 per person. [6] The final price depends on lodging, transport, guiding, meals, private vehicle use, and paid activities. Request an itemized quote before comparing packages.
Akagera entry includes self-drive game viewing, but guided drives, boat trips, and other activities cost extra. [4] Ask whether your package includes a vehicle, driver-guide, fuel, and activity fees.

International adults pay US$100 for one day or night, US$150 for two nights, and US$200 for three nights. A complete 3-day trip costs about US$880 to US$3,281 per person. [4][6]
Choose an entry-only visit if you already have transport and a clear self-drive plan. Choose a full package if you need a vehicle, guide, lodge, meals, and transfers from Kigali. Either way, confirm every extra in writing. Boat trips and guided drives are not part of the standard entry fee. [4]
Compare verified safari packages on SafariFind, read authentic reviews, and request quotes from operators that match your budget. For 2027, early planning gives you more time to compare lodge types, vehicle plans, and available dates. A clear quote turns a confusing park fee into a practical safari plan.

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
5★ - "I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big ca" - Jason Chen • Verified review
"I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big cats in Queen Elizabeth, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the rare Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp. The itinerary was well thought out, and everything ran smoothly. I flew into Kigali, Rwanda, which I highly recommend if you're heading to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi — much closer and more convenient than Entebbe. If photography is your priority, I also suggest booking two gorilla treks or considering Mgahinga. I only did one, and while it was incredible to see them, capturing strong images was difficult. The rainforest is thick, lighting tricky, and your movement limited — just something to keep in mind. Mozes, my guide, was outstanding. He’s punctual, safe, knowledgeable, and has a clear love for wildlife. He studied tourism, understands photography, and even shared stories from past conservation work, like relocating giraffes from Murchison Falls to Kidepo. He always positioned the car for the best angles and made the drives smooth and productive. Our first stop was Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, just five minutes from Rushaga Gate. The lodge was cozy, well-designed, and mosquito-free, with great coffee and local food — an ideal base for gorilla trekking. In Queen Elizabeth, we had four full days of game drives. I like to go hard on photography, so we were out from sunrise to sunset. One major perk with GoExplore is you can plan your own drive schedule within park hours (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). On our first day, we stayed until closing — the only car left in Kasenyi Plains. That kind of flexibility made a huge difference. I also recommend the optional lion and leopard tracking. You’re still in your private vehicle, but a tracker joins you and leads off-road directly to the cats. We spent nearly four hours with a leopard and her cubs in a cactus tree — truly a dream scenario for any photographer. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale was another highlight. The chimps came down from the trees and moved through the forest, and we followed them. The one-hour viewing stretched to 2.5 hours. For photography, it’s better to wait until they’re on the ground — the real action happens there. On the final day, we went to Mabamba Swamp to see the Shoebill. From a photography standpoint, it’s the best place in Africa to photograph this rare bird. The canoe brings you to water level, with clean backgrounds and soft light — a perfect setup. Uganda in late May was lush, green, and surprisingly dry — just one short rainstorm. The scenery, wildlife, and people made it a beautiful place to explore. If you’re considering Uganda, book with GoExplore — and if you can, request Mozes. His experience and attention to detail made the entire trip not just productive, but truly enjoyable. Huge thanks to Brian and Mozes for making it all happen!"
