A private game drive in Akagera can cost up to USD 650 per vehicle, while a boat safari starts near USD 35 per person. The difference makes a five-day plan worth building carefully.
A 5-Day Akagera Safari Itinerary 2027: Costs by Day guide helps you plan wildlife drives, a Lake Ihema boat trip, walking, park entry, and lodging in eastern Rwanda. Known prices include USD 100 per international adult for daily park entry, USD 400 to 650 for a private game drive, and USD 35 to 45 for a one-hour boat safari. Use SafariFind to compare verified packages and request quotes for 2027.
A 5-Day Akagera Safari Itinerary 2027: Costs by Day plan turns a short Rwanda trip into a clear daily schedule. Akagera National Park sits in eastern Rwanda, while Kigali is the usual starting point for visitors. The park combines savanna drives with wetlands and Lake Ihema activities.
This guide separates known activity prices from costs that depend on your lodge and travel style. That distinction matters. A private drive costs per vehicle, while park entry and boat trips use per-person rates. A five-day luxury safari package starts at about USD 5,500 per person, according to a 2026 to 2027 Rwanda luxury safari listing [4].
Akagera National Park is best for travelers who want a varied wildlife trip without moving between several parks. You can spend more time in one area, add a boat safari, and keep Kigali within the wider route. The plan below gives you a useful base for 2027 booking talks.
Quick answer: A five-day Akagera safari combines game drives, Lake Ihema, and lodge-based activities. International adults should allow USD 100 per park day, before lodging, transport, meals, and private activities [5]. A private game drive costs about USD 400 to 650 per vehicle, while a boat trip costs USD 35 to 45 per person [2].
A five-day Akagera safari is a slower park visit with time for several activities instead of one rushed drive. The itinerary usually starts in Kigali, continues to Akagera, and places the main wildlife activities across four or five park days. The exact number of nights depends on your arrival and departure times.
Akagera National Park is known for private game drives, Lake Ihema boat safaris, night game drives, and guided walking safaris. A morning or afternoon private drive lasts about three to four hours and costs about USD 400 to 650 per vehicle for up to four to six guests [2]. Sharing the vehicle can make this rate easier for a small group to manage.
Lake Ihema boat safaris add a different view of the park. A one-hour trip costs about USD 35 to 45 per person [2]. The water route can break up long drives and works well in the middle of a five-day itinerary. SafariFind readers can also review the separate guide to Lake Ihema boat safari packages for 2027.
A five-day Akagera trip is best for travelers who prefer one main park base. Families can build in rest time. Photographers can repeat a route when light changes. First-time visitors can add a night drive or walking safari without cutting every game drive short.
Night game drives and guided walking safaris have an important booking rule. Lodge guests only can use these activities, according to the listed Akagera activity information [2]. A night drive costs about USD 100 to 150 per person. A guided walk lasting 1.5 to 2 hours costs about USD 40 to 60 per person [2].
Compare 5-day Akagera safari packages and 2027 prices if you want one quote that combines transport, lodging, park entry, and activities.
A five-day Akagera safari costs depend on four main items: park entry, accommodation, transport, and activities. International adults pay USD 100 per day for park entry, while international children pay USD 50 per day [5]. Private drives cost per vehicle, so group size changes the value of each activity.
The table below gives a practical five-day structure. It uses listed activity prices and shows where each cost enters the trip. It does not pretend that every lodge, meal, transfer, or vehicle has one fixed 2027 price.
| Day | Suggested plan | Known cost basis |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Travel from Kigali, enter Akagera, and settle at the lodge | USD 100 per international adult for park entry [5] |
| Day 2 | Morning or afternoon private game drive | USD 400 to 650 per private vehicle [2] |
| Day 3 | Lake Ihema boat safari and flexible lodge time | USD 35 to 45 per person for one hour [2] |
| Day 4 | Second game drive, night drive, or guided walk | USD 100 to 150 per person for night drive, or USD 40 to 60 for walking [2] |
| Day 5 | Final drive, breakfast, and return toward Kigali | Park entry applies for each paid park day [5] |
One listed Akagera safari package starts at USD 1,250 per person, although its available listing does not provide a complete itinerary or full inclusions [3]. Treat that figure as a starting package reference, not a complete five-day budget.
Accommodation changes the total sharply. One Rwanda safari rate guide places value-tier rooming and safari activity costs at about USD 1,000 to 2,000 per person per night sharing. Upgraded private experiences can reach about USD 2,500 or more per night [7]. These figures show why you should ask whether a quote covers a room only or includes activities and guiding.
A luxury five-day Rwanda safari starts at about USD 5,500 per person in one 2026 to 2027 offer [4]. That level usually suits travelers who want high-end lodges and expert guiding. A mid-range quote may look far lower, but compare the number of park days, vehicle type, meals, and included activities before deciding.
Request quotes for five-day Akagera safari packages under your 2027 budget and compare what each operator includes.
The best five-day Akagera plan spreads active outings across the trip. Keep the first day simple, place the boat safari after a drive, and leave one flexible day for weather, tired children, or a second wildlife route.
Kigali is the natural start for many Akagera trips. Use the first day for the transfer, park entry, lodge check-in, and a short rest. A full game drive on arrival can make the day long, especially after an international flight.
International park entry costs USD 100 per adult and USD 50 per child per day [5]. Ask your operator whether the fee is included in the package price. Then check if the quote covers the transfer from Kigali, meals, bottled water, and a private vehicle.
Day two is a good time for your first full wildlife drive. A morning or afternoon drive lasts about three to four hours. The listed rate is USD 400 to 650 per private vehicle for up to four to six guests [2]. A private group can split the vehicle rate among several travelers.
Choose a morning drive if you want an early start. Choose an afternoon drive if you need more rest after arrival. The right choice depends on your group, not a promise of a guaranteed sighting.
Lake Ihema is the natural change of pace in this itinerary. A one-hour boat safari costs about USD 35 to 45 per person [2]. It gives you time away from the vehicle and keeps the day manageable after a long drive.
Combine the boat trip with a short drive or lodge rest. You can read more about the activity in the Lake Ihema safari booking guide. Keep your day flexible if your group includes young children.
Day four gives you the most choice. A night game drive costs about USD 100 to 150 per person. A 1.5 to 2-hour guided walk costs about USD 40 to 60 per person [2]. Both activities are listed for lodge guests only.
A walking safari suits travelers who want a closer look at tracks, plants, and smaller signs of wildlife. A night drive suits visitors who want a different view of the park after dark. Ask for the activity rules before you confirm the lodge.
Use the final morning for one short drive if your departure time allows. Then settle your lodge bill and return toward Kigali. Build in extra time for the road rather than scheduling a tight international flight connection.
Travelers staying longer can compare the Akagera tour prices by trip length. A five-day stay works well, but a shorter visit may suit a wider Rwanda route.
Start by choosing your travel dates, group size, and lodge level. Then ask for a written quote with each cost shown by day. This step prevents a low headline price from hiding park entry, vehicle fees, or activities.

Rwanda also offers other routes. You can add Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking, or stay in Rwanda with a wider plan that includes Kigali and other destinations. Do not add extra parks unless your travel time supports the transfers.
For more planning context, read the guide to Akagera safari costs for first-time visitors. It can help you spot the difference between a package price and a full trip budget.
A five-day Akagera safari has no single fixed price because lodging, transport, activities, and park days change the total. International adults pay USD 100 per park day, while private game drives cost USD 400 to 650 per vehicle. Listed package references start near USD 1,250 per person, while luxury five-day offers start near USD 5,500 [3][4][5].
A five-day Akagera safari can include park entry, a 4x4 vehicle, a driver-guide, lodging, meals, game drives, and a boat safari. Check every quote line by line. A listed Akagera day safari includes pickup and drop-off in Kigali, park entry, a 4x4 vehicle, a game drive, lunch, and an English-speaking driver-guide [1].
A one-hour Lake Ihema boat safari costs about USD 35 to 45 per person. The trip works well on day three because it gives travelers a break from long vehicle drives. Ask whether your package includes the boat fee or treats it as an optional activity [2].
Night game drives are listed as available to lodge guests only. The listed price is about USD 100 to 150 per person. Guided walking safaris also require lodge access, and a 1.5 to 2-hour walk costs about USD 40 to 60 per person [2].
A private safari suits families, photographers, and groups that want control over timing. A private morning or afternoon game drive costs about USD 400 to 650 per vehicle for up to four to six guests [2]. Sharing the vehicle can reduce the activity cost per traveler.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. Compare five-day Akagera packages, check the daily inclusions, read traveler feedback, and request a quote before you book for 2027.
A five-day Akagera safari gives you enough time for game drives, Lake Ihema, and one lodge-based activity without rushing every day. The clearest known costs are USD 100 per international adult for daily park entry, USD 400 to 650 per private game drive vehicle, and USD 35 to 45 per person for a boat safari [2][5].
Use day one for travel and entry. Plan the main drive on day two. Add Lake Ihema on day three, then choose a night drive or guided walk on day four. Keep day five flexible for a final drive and the return to Kigali.
Luxury travelers should compare offers near USD 5,500 per person. Travelers watching costs should compare the USD 1,250 starting package with its exact inclusions before booking [3][4]. Prices and availability can change as 2027 approaches.

"I went tracking the gorillas in Rwanda and I'm glad I made a good choice to go with Universal Ventures, Their guides are friendly, punctual driver and very responsive office for any query. The experience of gorilla trekking in a once in a lifetime and I recommend this tour operator for your gorilla safari as well. Thank you."
"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
"I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big cats in Queen Elizabeth, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the rare Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp. The itinerary was well thought out, and everything ran smoothly. I flew into Kigali, Rwanda, which I highly recommend if you're heading to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi — much closer and more convenient than Entebbe. If photography is your priority, I also suggest booking two gorilla treks or considering Mgahinga. I only did one, and while it was incredible to see them, capturing strong images was difficult. The rainforest is thick, lighting tricky, and your movement limited — just something to keep in mind. Mozes, my guide, was outstanding. He’s punctual, safe, knowledgeable, and has a clear love for wildlife. He studied tourism, understands photography, and even shared stories from past conservation work, like relocating giraffes from Murchison Falls to Kidepo. He always positioned the car for the best angles and made the drives smooth and productive. Our first stop was Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, just five minutes from Rushaga Gate. The lodge was cozy, well-designed, and mosquito-free, with great coffee and local food — an ideal base for gorilla trekking. In Queen Elizabeth, we had four full days of game drives. I like to go hard on photography, so we were out from sunrise to sunset. One major perk with GoExplore is you can plan your own drive schedule within park hours (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). On our first day, we stayed until closing — the only car left in Kasenyi Plains. That kind of flexibility made a huge difference. I also recommend the optional lion and leopard tracking. You’re still in your private vehicle, but a tracker joins you and leads off-road directly to the cats. We spent nearly four hours with a leopard and her cubs in a cactus tree — truly a dream scenario for any photographer. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale was another highlight. The chimps came down from the trees and moved through the forest, and we followed them. The one-hour viewing stretched to 2.5 hours. For photography, it’s better to wait until they’re on the ground — the real action happens there. On the final day, we went to Mabamba Swamp to see the Shoebill. From a photography standpoint, it’s the best place in Africa to photograph this rare bird. The canoe brings you to water level, with clean backgrounds and soft light — a perfect setup. Uganda in late May was lush, green, and surprisingly dry — just one short rainstorm. The scenery, wildlife, and people made it a beautiful place to explore. If you’re considering Uganda, book with GoExplore — and if you can, request Mozes. His experience and attention to detail made the entire trip not just productive, but truly enjoyable. Huge thanks to Brian and Mozes for making it all happen!"
"Lovely destination Uganda we selected GoExplore Safaris because their budget was affordable and they were so fast and quick at responding to our emails and all the questions. Elephants, giraffe, deer, antelope, warthogs, hippopotamus, crocodiles, hyena, lion, beautiful birds, and a leopard. It was incredible! The boat rides up the Nile to Murchison Falls is a must do and a perfect way to end the tour. I Did not have any Idea on how beautiful Uganda is. wow, I highly recommend GoExplore Safaris and travel for anyone who is interested in adventuring Uganda and Rwanda to its fullest."
"Our Rwanda trip trip from gorilla trekking in volcanoes just got done and now settled back home we were lucky to have attended the gorilla ceremony and the team was able to atleast show us why this was a big day for Rwanda it was such a coincidence to have travelled this beautiful country while they were naming the gorillas great thing to do I advise you to look for goexplore brian will take you to Kigali for this event."
