Mozambique's elephant population suffered a severe poaching crisis, falling from just over 20,000 to an estimated 10,300 in five years. Protection, landscape management and community partnerships remain essential to recovery, particularly in Niassa Reserve and Quirimbas National Park [1].

Zimbabwe safari tours in 2026 range from about $1,683 to $10,500 per person for seven to ten days. The six routes below cover Victoria Falls, Hwange, Mana Pools, and Lake Kariba. Compare verified packages on SafariFind, check current prices, and ask operators about the best travel dates for your route.
Zimbabwe safari tours give travelers six strong ways to combine wildlife, rivers, and dramatic scenery in one country. As of July 2026, listed seven-day trips cost about $1,683-$2,999 per person, while longer luxury programs reach $10,500. [5]
Zimbabwe is a useful choice when you want more than a classic game drive. Hwange offers a major wildlife focus. Mana Pools adds river views and canoe experiences. Victoria Falls brings one of Africa’s best-known attractions into the same travel plan.
These routes also suit different budgets. A budget safari uses a daily rate near $325 per person. Mid-range trips average about $500 daily. High-end lodges in Hwange or Mana Pools cost about $700-$1,800 daily. [1]
Quick answer: The best Zimbabwe safari route depends on your time and budget. Choose Hwange and Victoria Falls for a first trip. Add Mana Pools and Lake Kariba for a longer wildlife circuit. Seven-day itineraries begin near $1,683, while luxury and ten-day exploration packages cost much more in 2026.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, current package details, and authentic reviews. Use the route guide below to narrow your search before requesting a quote.
Zimbabwe safari tours fall into six clear route styles in 2026. Short routes focus on Victoria Falls and Hwange. Longer trips add Mana Pools, Lake Kariba, rail travel, or canoe activities. Compare the route purpose first, then compare its price, duration, accommodation, and transport.
Zimbabwe safari routes are not interchangeable. Each route creates a different balance between wildlife drives, water activities, lodge time, and travel days. Therefore, the cheapest route is not always the best fit for your trip.
Known for: Combining Victoria Falls with Zimbabwe’s best-known safari park. Best for: First-time visitors who want waterfalls and wildlife in one itinerary.
Victoria Falls and Hwange create the most direct introduction to Zimbabwe. A listed Classic Imvelo Safari lasts eight days and starts at $4,768. The route includes Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls, with departure from Victoria Falls Airport. [7]
Classic Imvelo also includes travel on the Elephant Express Railcar. The itinerary lists Hwange, Ngamo Forest, and a Victoria Falls Airport departure. [7] This route works well when you want a strong mix of transport, scenery, and game viewing.
Known for: A dedicated wildlife stay in Hwange. Best for: Travelers who prefer game drives and lodge time over a fast multi-stop trip.
Hwange National Park is the main focus of this route. You spend more nights in one region, which can reduce packing and road transfers. Budget travelers can compare daily rates near $325. Mid-range travelers can plan around $500 per person daily. [1]
This route also gives you more freedom to choose a lodge style. SafariFind’s guide to Zimbabwe safari lodges for every budget can help you compare accommodation before booking.
Known for: River landscapes, Mana Pools, and Lake Kariba. Best for: Travelers seeking a slower safari with water-based scenery.
Mana Pools and Lake Kariba form a different type of Zimbabwe safari circuit. The route shifts attention from one park to a wider river and lake region. Source material identifies both destinations as components of Zimbabwe safari packages. [1][3]
Longer routes usually suit this pairing better. You need enough time for transfers and activities. Adventure Life lists ten-day Zimbabwe exploration packages from $8,793, including Mana Pools and Hwange landscapes. [6]
Known for: Victoria Falls and a half-day Upper Zambezi canoe safari. Best for: Travelers who want a shorter river experience before or after a safari.
TourRadar lists Zimbabwe itineraries that include a Victoria Falls extension and a half-day Upper Zambezi canoe safari. It also lists longer twelve- and fourteen-day trips for 2026 and 2027. [4]
This option can work as a stand-alone short break or as an add-on. It does not offer the same park depth as a dedicated Hwange route. However, it adds a clear river activity without requiring a full two-week holiday.
Known for: Zimbabwe’s major safari and waterfall highlights in one circuit. Best for: Travelers with ten or more days and a larger budget.
This route gives you the broadest Zimbabwe experience. It combines a main wildlife park, a river-focused wilderness area, and Victoria Falls. The trade-off is cost and travel time. High-end lodge rates can reach $700-$1,800 per person daily in Hwange or Mana Pools. [1]
Adventure Life’s ten-day exploration packages start at $8,793. [6] Compare what the price includes. Ask about internal flights, transfers, park fees, meals, activities, and lodge upgrades.
Known for: Twelve- to fourteen-day travel plans with several destinations. Best for: Repeat safari travelers, photographers, and visitors who want a slower pace.
TourRadar lists twelve- and fourteen-day Zimbabwe tours for 2026 and 2027. [4] These longer itineraries can add more park time and reduce rushed travel between major stops.
Extended routes also need careful planning. Confirm how many full safari days you receive. A fourteen-day trip with many transfers may provide less wildlife time than a focused seven-day stay.

The six Zimbabwe safari routes differ most in price, duration, and activity mix. Shorter itineraries cost less and suit first-time visitors. Longer circuits add Mana Pools, Lake Kariba, and more park time, but they also need larger budgets and more planning.

Zimbabwe safari tours cost about $1,683-$2,999 per person for selected seven-day itineraries in 2026. A Classic Imvelo eight-day safari starts at $4,768. Adventure Life lists ten-day exploration packages from $8,793. [5][6][7]
The daily rate gives a useful second comparison. Budget trips list about $325 per person daily. Mid-range trips list about $500. High-end lodge stays in Hwange or Mana Pools range from $700-$1,800 daily. [1]
Prices do not always cover the same items. Before you compare two packages, check these details:
SafariFind lets you compare packages and request quotes from verified operators. Compare Zimbabwe tour operators with current reviews and package options before choosing the cheapest offer.
A budget traveler should start with a focused seven-day route. Listed seven-day trips begin at about $1,683, while selected options reach $2,999 per person. [5] A focused Hwange stay can also help control transfer costs and keep the itinerary simple.
A mid-range traveler can compare a seven-day route with an eight-day Victoria Falls and Hwange itinerary. The Classic Imvelo option starts at $4,768 and includes a railcar journey, Hwange, Ngamo Forest, and Victoria Falls. [7]
A luxury traveler should consider ten or more days. Adventure Life lists ten-day exploration packages from $8,793. [6] Longer routes can include more than one park and a wider choice of lodges.
The best way to plan Zimbabwe safari tours is to choose your route before choosing your lodge. Start with the number of days, then set a per-person budget. Finally, confirm transport, park nights, activities, entry rules, and review quality with the operator.
Choose Hwange if wildlife drives are your top priority. Choose Victoria Falls if a major waterfall should anchor the trip. Choose Mana Pools and Lake Kariba if you want a river-based circuit.
Travelers who want all three should plan at least ten days. A seven-day trip can cover major highlights, but it leaves less time for long transfers and relaxed lodge stays.
Seven days works best for one park plus Victoria Falls. Eight days suits the listed Classic Imvelo route. Ten days allows a broader exploration package. Twelve to fourteen days suits extended tours listed for 2026 and 2027. [4][7]
Do not judge a trip by calendar days alone. Count full safari mornings and afternoons. A transfer day can still be useful, but it may not include a full game drive.
Travel documents need attention when a route crosses borders or returns to Zimbabwe. One Zimbabwe itinerary advises travelers to obtain a double-entry visa or UniVisa when they need to return without paying another visa fee. [2] Confirm the current rule for your passport before departure.
Swedish and Irish travelers can also review destination-specific guidance before booking. Read the guide on vaccinations for Swedish travelers to Zimbabwe or the guide on vaccines for Irish travelers.
Verified operators should explain what the package includes. They should also provide clear dates, accommodation names, transport details, and cancellation terms. SafariFind helps you review package information and authentic traveler feedback in one marketplace.
Use this checklist before you pay a deposit:
For a wider planning check, read eight Zimbabwe safari safety checks before booking. This step helps you compare service quality, not only headline prices.
Each route offers a different daily rhythm. Hwange centers on land-based wildlife viewing. Mana Pools and Lake Kariba add water landscapes. Victoria Falls adds sightseeing and short adventure activities. Your best choice depends on how much variety you want each day.
Hwange routes suit travelers who want several game-drive opportunities. A focused stay also reduces the number of hotel changes. This can help families, older travelers, and visitors who prefer a calm schedule.
High-end Hwange lodges cost about $700-$1,800 per person daily. [1] Budget and mid-range options provide a lower-cost path, but you should compare room type, meal plans, and included drives.
Mana Pools and Lake Kariba add a water-based feel to the safari. These areas suit travelers who want landscapes beyond open savanna. Ask whether your package includes canoeing, boat time, walking, or only lodge views.
Longer routes make this combination easier. They give your operator more time to manage transfers and activity schedules. They also create more space for quiet mornings and flexible afternoons.
Victoria Falls works well at the start or end of a safari. The Upper Zambezi option listed by TourRadar includes a half-day canoe safari. [4] A short extension can add a river activity without turning the whole trip into a long circuit.
Ask your operator how much time you receive at the falls. Also confirm the airport used for departure. The Classic Imvelo itinerary lists Victoria Falls Airport as its departure point. [7]
Accommodation strongly affects the final cost. Budget rates begin near $325 daily. Mid-range rates sit near $500. High-end lodge stays range from $700-$1,800 daily. [1]
Ask whether the listed price covers a private room, shared room, or tented camp. You should also check electricity, Wi-Fi, laundry, and transfer times. These details matter more on remote routes.
Compare lodge style before you commit to a route. The SafariFind guide to seven Zimbabwe safari lodges for every budget provides a useful next step.
Zimbabwe safari tours cost about $1,683-$2,999 per person for selected seven-day trips in 2026. Daily rates range from $325 for budget trips to $700-$1,800 for high-end lodge stays. The final price depends on duration, accommodation, parks, transfers, and activities. [1][5]
Victoria Falls and Hwange is the best Zimbabwe safari route for many first-time visitors. It combines a major waterfall with a dedicated wildlife park. A listed Classic Imvelo itinerary lasts eight days and starts at $4,768. [7]
You need seven days for a focused Hwange and Victoria Falls trip. Plan eight days for the listed Classic Imvelo itinerary, ten days for broader exploration, and twelve to fourteen days for extended routes. Longer trips give you more time for Mana Pools, Lake Kariba, and slower travel. [4][7]
Zimbabwe safari tours commonly include Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park, Mana Pools, and Lake Kariba. Some itineraries also include the Upper Zambezi and Ngamo Forest. The right combination depends on your trip length, budget, and preferred activities. [1][3][4][7]
Zimbabwe safari tours are safest to book after you check the operator, itinerary, transport, reviews, and emergency plan. Ask for written details before paying. Travelers should also review current entry, health, and safety guidance for their nationality.
You may need a double-entry visa or UniVisa if your itinerary returns to Zimbabwe. One listed itinerary gives this advice for travelers who need to re-enter without paying another visa fee. Confirm the current rule for your passport before travel. [2]

"Cultural Vibes Travel and Tours has proved to be excellent yet again as this is now the third time, we have used them and a much-needed break after almost 3 years with the Covid pandemic. Tongesai is extremely reliable, professional, knowledgeable and does everything to make your trip a memorable experience. Compared to local larger companies, Tongesai’s individual package rates are more reasonable and come with a customized touch. We felt that our holiday with Tongesai was much better and suited us more so than if we had booked through a larger company. His individual tailoring, personal involvement and attention to detail pays off in the smooth running of your trip. Our visits to the Victoria Falls, both sides from Zimbabwe and Zambia were magnificent and never cease to amaze us. On this trip Tongesai arranged for a private sunset cruise on the Zambezi just for our family of four instead of on the larger vessels, which was a very pleasant alternative. The boat trip in Chobe is magical and a must if you venture into Botswana. Wildlife was in abundance, including lion, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, puku, kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, gemsbok, steenbok, sable and roan antelope, etc. We even saw a relative of Cecil, the famous black-maned lion, ‘once a true king of Hwange National Park’. I have no hesitation in recommending the company for arranging tours in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana - we will definitely be seeing him again. He is currently setting up arrangements with colleagues in Kruger National Park to venture into South Africa and I wish him every success with that."

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"My travel companions and I chose the 4 day experience. Technically it is really a 3 day experience, because the last day they provide airport transportation. I feel they go above and beyond in making sure they are providing their customers with a safe, exciting and exceptional experience. Gari was our driver/guide in Zimbabwe, and was friendly, helpful, and courteous. Gari either made sure we were where we needed to be or provided his own guide trip to the Victoria Falls. He even provided the rain gear, which is most necessary. Gari and his "boss" Mr T. went above and beyond when Delta postponed our flight by a day, by helping to make sure that the connecting airline would change our reservation. They then made sure we got to the airport on time, a day later. They are always willing to provide any additional things that you would like to see and do. If you looking for a guided tour company, this is the one to use, and one that I would have no hesitation in using again."

"First, Tongesai Mtematsaka was excellent with communications and service. We couldn’t have asked for better. My questions via email were promptly answered. His English was excellent, and better. He was always on time in meeting us, coming and going. Our two hour trips from VIc Falls to the sable sands lodge, and then from the lodge to the Vic Falls airport were a highlight to our entire Africa trip. My wife and I will be discussing various aspects from the discussions with Tongesai for some time to come. By patiently answering my many questions he educated my wife and I about Zimbabwe and the region - culture, practices and assets of the people, typical family life, economy, weather, etc., and possibilities and trends into the future - all believable and detailed. The staff and facilities at the sable sands lodge were all excellent, beginning with Michelle’s clear instructions and cautions. She was a delight. We were asked if we wanted to take a charming hut as close as we could get to the marvelous watering hole there and got it. Incredibly we were greeted by a dust-cloud from a herd of maybe 100 Cape buffalo running to the water - unbelievable! The meals prepared by So and Derik were really good, throughout. MC, our drive guide was excellent and very accommodating to all the guests in the comfortable and safe-feeling, open 4x4. We met some nice co-guests. We saw so many animals on our safari that I will not attempt to recall here. I would just say that the many watering holes in the Hwange park were impressive, As an environmentalist myself I was very impressed with the solar powered system for exploiting the aquifers, and the foresight of the authorities in developing and maintains these. I know the history going back to the 1920’s, but if there wasn’t maintainence and upgrade the animals could not continue, especially with drought effects of climate change. Finally, I must comment on the fact that our first night in our hut was spent listening to the rumblings of the elephant just outside out hut. In the morning the tracks outside our hut showed how close our visitor was. We knew then that Michelle’s cautions were serious. But then more, the second night we had a lioness spend the night outside our hut, perhaps roaring a mating call. At first light MC came by with the truck and asked if we wanted to see the lion. I shot out with my camera. What an experience!! We hope our parting tip to the group of 16 people providing excellent service was meaningful. I will certainly recommend this trip to anyone who will hear me. What a privilege!!!"

"We booked our Zimbabwe trip with Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours following a recommendation from Nhongo Safaris in South Africa. Tongesai is a great communicator, and the booking process was quick, easy, and well organized. We were happy with the quote provided and were able to easily pay online. Tongesai was waiting for us at Victoria Falls Airport to take us to our accommodation. He has arranged an amazing whirlwind 48 hour visit, that was packed with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, Morning Game drive, he accompanied us on an amazing walk of the Victoria falls and arranged an African experience dinner in the evening. It was so memorable, and everything we wanted! Overall, it was an fantastic trip, with a great guide, and we would highly recommend it for anyone considering a trip to Victoria Falls. For our next visit, we will definitely be reaching out to Tongesai and thoroughly recommend to all our friends."
