Zambia remains one of the few African countries with viable African wild dog populations, especially in the Luangwa Valley and Kafue National Park. Conservation is delivering local progress, but habitat fragmentation, snares, disease and conflict continue to threaten this endangered carnivore.

Chobe National Park is home to an estimated 120,000 elephants, making it one of Africa’s top elephant-viewing destinations. [8]
Chobe National Park attractions include elephant-rich game drives, Chobe River boat safaris, birdwatching, hippos, crocodiles, and predator sightings. In 2027, tours range from $720 for a 3-day camping safari to $5,500 or more for premium trips, while non-citizen entry is listed at 120 BWP per person per day. The dry months are popular for wildlife viewing.
Chobe National Park attractions offer a strong mix of land and water wildlife experiences in northern Botswana. The park’s Chobe River supports boat safaris, game drives, and birdwatching. Visitors also find elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and predators along the riverfront. [6]
Chobe works well for travelers who want varied safari activities without spending every day in a remote camp. Kasane provides access to the park, and many visitors combine Chobe with Victoria Falls or another Botswana destination. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, current package options, and authentic traveler reviews.
Quick answer: Chobe National Park is best known for elephants and river safaris. A 3-day camping trip starts at $720 per person, while a 7-day Botswana and Victoria Falls package starts at $2,590. [2] Plan early for 2027, compare what each package includes, and check park fees before departure.
Use this guide to understand the main attractions, tour prices, entry fees, travel choices, and booking steps. It also explains why package prices differ so widely. Some trips focus on camping and shared activities. Others include private vehicles, lodges, several parks, and premium guiding.

Chobe National Park attractions are centered on the Chobe River, elephant herds, and flexible safari activities. The riverfront supports morning game drives, afternoon boat safaris, and birdwatching in one visit. This mix makes Chobe a useful choice for travelers who want more than a traditional vehicle safari.
Chobe River boat safaris provide a water-level view of wildlife. The riverfront is described as suitable for boat safaris, with hippos, crocodiles, elephants, birds, and predators among the key wildlife highlights. [6] A boat trip also changes the pace of your safari. You can watch animals from the water without following the same road routes as a game-drive vehicle.
Boat trips often become a favorite attraction for photographers. The river can create clear scenes of elephants entering the water or animals feeding along the bank. Ask your operator about departure times, boat size, seating, and whether the trip is shared or private.
Chobe National Park is associated with an estimated 120,000 elephants. [8] That figure explains why elephant viewing remains the park’s leading attraction. Large herds may gather near water, especially when other sources become less reliable during dry periods.
Elephant sightings are not guaranteed at a fixed place or time. However, Chobe’s river setting gives guides a strong area to search. Follow distance rules and listen to your guide. Wildlife safety matters more than getting a close photograph.
Riverfront game drives focus on tracks, water access, and fresh wildlife activity. Guides may look for elephants, buffalo, antelope, lions, and other predators. Source material describes Chobe’s riverfront as suitable for game drives and diverse wildlife viewing. [6]
A morning drive can offer cooler travel conditions and active animals. An afternoon drive can pair well with a sunset river cruise. Therefore, a package that includes both activities gives you a broader view of the park.
Birdwatching is another important Chobe attraction, especially along wetland edges and river channels. The river supports a changing mix of birds and mammals. Travelers should carry binoculars, a small field guide, sunscreen, and a camera with spare batteries.
Known for: Elephants, river wildlife, boat safaris, game drives, birdwatching, hippos, crocodiles, and predator sightings. [6][8]
Best for: First-time safari visitors, wildlife photographers, families, couples, and travelers combining Botswana with Victoria Falls.
Compare Chobe National Park safari packages for 2027 to match river cruises, game drives, camping, and lodge stays with your trip style.
Chobe National Park tour prices range from $720 for a 3-day camping safari to $5,500 or more for longer or premium journeys. [2] The final cost depends on duration, accommodation, vehicle type, group size, guiding, meals, transfers, and extra destinations.
A 3-day Chobe camping safari is listed from $720 per person. [2] A 7-day Botswana and Victoria Falls package is listed from $2,590 per person. [2] These examples show how a short, focused trip differs from a combined itinerary with more travel and activities.
TravelStride lists a 9-day Chobe itinerary at $1,799 and a 10-day itinerary at $8,660. [3] The gap between these prices is large. Read the inclusions closely before comparing the headline price. A premium itinerary may include private services, higher-end camps, or a wider range of activities.

| Botswana and Victoria Falls Package | From $2,590 | 7 days | Not listed | First-time visitors seeking two major attractions |

One published fee schedule lists entry at 120 BWP per non-citizen visitor per day. The same schedule lists 70 BWP for SADC residents and 10 BWP for Botswana citizens. [5] The schedule also lists separate vehicle charges for 4x4 vehicles. [5]
Entry fees are different from a safari package price. Your operator may include park access, vehicle charges, guiding, transfers, or activity costs in the quotation. Ask for a written breakdown. Confirm the fee schedule again before your 2027 trip because rates and payment rules can change.
Lodges near Kasane are listed at approximately $350–$550 per person per night. [8] Camping can reduce accommodation costs, but it does not always make the full trip cheap. Transfers, meals, park fees, guides, and boat activities still affect the final total.
Price range: $720 for a short camping safari, $1,799 for a listed 9-day tour, $2,590 for a 7-day combined package, and $8,660 for a listed 10-day premium itinerary. [2][3]
Request a quote from verified safari operators for your 2027 budget and compare inclusions before choosing a Chobe tour.
The best Chobe safari plan combines your preferred activity, trip length, and accommodation level. Start with the experience you want most. Then choose a package that gives enough time for that activity instead of selecting only by price.
Camping safaris suit travelers who want a lower starting price and a closer outdoor experience. Lodge safaris suit travelers who prefer fixed rooms, more comfort, and simple access from Kasane. Private safaris offer more control over timing, stops, and photography.
The Chobe River is central to many park activities. A package with both a boat safari and a game drive gives you two viewing angles. Ask whether the boat trip is included, how long it lasts, and how many guests share the boat.
Chobe National Park is also easy to pair with a wider Botswana trip. Travelers can compare it with Okavango Delta attractions and 2027 packages when building a multi-stop route. The Delta offers a different wetland setting, while Chobe centers strongly on riverfront wildlife.
A low price does not always include every major cost. Check each quotation for the following points:
Kasane is the key access point for many Chobe trips. A separate guide to Kasane safari packages for 2027 can help you compare arrival plans and nearby stays. Travelers who want a longer Botswana holiday can also review Botswana bush-and-beach packages.
Getting there: Most Chobe itineraries use Kasane as the practical gateway. Your operator should confirm the transfer plan, border movements, and meeting point in the final itinerary.

The best way to experience Chobe attractions is to schedule both a land safari and a river safari. This plan lets you search for wildlife on game-drive routes and watch river animals from the water. It also spreads your viewing across different times and habitats.
A three-day visit can cover the park’s main highlights without rushing every hour. Use the first day for arrival and a game drive. Reserve the second day for a river cruise and another drive. Keep the final day for a morning activity or departure.
Pack light, neutral clothing, a warm layer, sun protection, binoculars, and insect protection. Bring a waterproof bag for boat trips. A refillable water bottle helps during long drives, but confirm water arrangements with your operator.
Wild animals need space. Stay inside the vehicle unless your guide gives permission to leave. Keep voices low near wildlife. Follow boat instructions near hippos and crocodiles. These simple habits protect both visitors and animals.
SafariFind helps travelers compare verified operators and read authentic reviews from previous guests. Look for reviews that mention guide quality, vehicle comfort, timing, food, transfers, and whether the advertised activities took place. A detailed review gives more value than a rating alone.
Ask operators direct questions before paying a deposit. Confirm cancellation terms, payment currency, emergency support, and what happens if weather or park conditions change. Written answers make package comparisons easier.
Chobe does not need to stand alone. You can compare it with additional Chobe package ideas and 2027 prices before adding another park. A lodge-focused traveler can also review Botswana safari lodge rates for 2027.
Keep your route realistic. Longer drives reduce time for wildlife viewing. A skilled operator can suggest a route that balances travel, rest, and activities.
Chobe National Park attractions include elephant viewing, riverfront game drives, Chobe River boat safaris, birdwatching, hippos, crocodiles, and predator sightings. [6] The park is especially known for its estimated 120,000 elephants. [8]
A published fee schedule lists 120 BWP per non-citizen visitor per day. It lists 70 BWP for SADC residents and 10 BWP for Botswana citizens. Separate 4x4 vehicle charges are also listed. [5] Confirm the current rate before travel.
Chobe safari tours range from $720 for a listed 3-day camping safari to $2,590 for a listed 7-day Botswana and Victoria Falls package. [2] TravelStride lists Chobe itineraries at $1,799 for 9 days and $8,660 for 10 days. [3]
Three days is enough for a focused Chobe visit with game drives and a river safari. Seven days suits travelers adding Victoria Falls or another Botswana destination. Longer itineraries allow more travel and wildlife time, but prices can rise sharply. [2][3]
Chobe wildlife includes elephants, hippos, crocodiles, birds, and predators along the riverfront. [6] Chobe is also described as having an estimated 120,000 elephants. [8] Sightings depend on the season, guide, route, and daily animal movement.

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"I spent a week in Botswana with cultural vibes, travels & tours and had not a single dull moment. The hotels/lodges we stayed at were very clean and service was professional. On the drives I had good conversations with the tour operator as he taught me a lot about the culture and about all the different animals (which we saw a lot of). Overall I had a great experience and would definitely book again."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."

"We went on a 3 day safari, and even though Tongesai did not lead it himself, I want to highly recommend his services. Our group consisted of just my family; my wife, children (9, 13, 14), and me. Tongesai acted as the agent, coordinating with the organization in Botswana that ran the actual tour. He met us several days in advance, and had informed us of some critical information (like make sure to bring birth certificates for the kids) well in advance. On the first day of the Safari, he came to pick us up, and drove us to the border, where he coordinated a smooth hand over to the Botswana organization. The guide from our safari was so good! ‘Cobra’ grew up in the bush, and if shows. He was frequently coordinating with, and showing other tour guides where to find the best big game sightings. We saw so many animals, including lions, hippos, tons of elephants and giraffes, and too many other animals to name. The meals were also great! Cobra and Tongesai had contracted with ‘chef K’ for catered breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp. All meals were great. And the camp itself was organized above my expectations. Very nice tents, raised cots, plenty warm, tables, chairs and napkins at every meal! All in all, the experience was pretty unforgettable. It’s not a cheap experience, but based on our trip I can highly recommend Tongesai’s services!"
