Murchison Falls National Park • Pakuba Safari Lodge

After an early breakfast, depart north toward Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where wild rhinos can be tracked on foot. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will walk through the sanctuary to observe white rhinos grazing peacefully in their natural habitat, an exciting and safe experience that allows close observation of these magnificent animals. After lunch, continue the journey to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest national park. Upon entering the park, visit the dramatic “Top of the Falls,” where the mighty Nile River squeezes through a narrow 7-meter gorge before plunging 43 meters below, creating one of the most powerful waterfalls in Africa. The roaring water and misty surroundings make for spectacular views before heading to your lodge for the evening.

Today is dedicated to exploring the wildlife-rich savannah of Murchison Falls National Park. An early morning game drive across the northern plains offers excellent opportunities to spot animals when they are most active. You may encounter elephants, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, lions, and several species of antelope roaming the open grasslands. After returning to the lodge for relaxation and lunch, the afternoon brings one of the park’s most memorable experiences, a boat safari along the Victoria Nile. The boat slowly cruises upstream toward the base of the falls, passing large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles basking along the banks, and numerous bird species such as kingfishers and fish eagles. The journey ends with a breathtaking view of the falls from below before returning to the lodge.

Guided by experienced trackers, you will follow trails through the forest until a chimpanzee group is located. Once found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing their social interactions, playful behaviour, and calls echoing through the forest. After lunch, continue your safari south to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Today centres on exploring one of the most diverse and wildlife-rich areas of Kyambura Gorge, often called the “Valley of Apes.” The day begins with an early descent into the gorge for chimpanzee tracking, where experienced guides lead you through a lush, forested ravine in search of habituated lost chimpanzee families. As you move beneath towering fig trees and dense vegetation, you’ll likely encounter not only chimpanzees but also other primates, birds, and unique flora, making the trek both thrilling and immersive.
