About this safari
The 6-Day Umbwe Route is the most challenging and steepest route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its rapid ascent, dramatic landscapes, and remote wilderness feel, the Umbwe Route is recommended for experienced hikers with good physical fitness and previous trekking experience.
This route approaches Kilimanjaro from the southern side, passing through dense rainforest, rugged ridges, and alpine desert before joining the Machame Route at Barranco Camp. Although it is more demanding than other routes, it rewards climbers with breathtaking scenery and fewer crowds.
The trek culminates at Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, offering an unforgettable achievement and spectacular sunrise views.
