Swiss citizens travelling to Burundi should plan to obtain a visa: current guidance lists a tourist visa as required, with visa on arrival also available. A reported eVisa reference price is US$90 and reported processing is three business days, but confirm the current fee, route and timing on Burundi’s official immigration portal before departure [1][2][4].

Last updated: July 2026
A 12-day Hwange and Mana Pools safari scheduled for October 2026 was already marked sold out, showing how quickly Zimbabwe’s best camps can fill. [6]
Zimbabwe Safari Parks: Hwange vs Mana Pools in 2026 offer two different experiences. Hwange is best for large elephant herds and classic game drives, while Mana Pools suits travelers seeking remote landscapes, walking safaris, and canoeing. The best safari season is May to October, with July and August requiring bookings six to nine months ahead. [1][2][5]
Zimbabwe Safari Parks: Hwange vs Mana Pools in 2026 present a clear choice between broad wildlife viewing and a more active wilderness trip. Hwange National Park is linked with large elephant herds and classic safari drives. Mana Pools is linked with remote landscapes, canoeing, and guided walks beside the Zambezi. [2][5]
As of July 2026, Zimbabwe’s strongest safari window is May to October. The dry season makes wildlife viewing easier, while July and August create the highest booking pressure for quality camps. [1][2][5] SafariFind helps travelers compare verified tour operators, read authentic reviews, and request trip details before choosing a park.
Quick answer: Choose Hwange for elephant herds, varied game drives, and a classic first safari. Choose Mana Pools for walking, canoeing, and a remote Zambezi setting. Combine both parks when you have at least 10 to 12 days. Book six to nine months early for July or August travel. [1][6][7]
This guide compares the parks by wildlife, setting, activities, season, logistics, and trip design. It also explains what current 2026 package data can and cannot tell you about price.
Hwange is Zimbabwe’s stronger choice for large elephant herds and traditional safari drives. Mana Pools is the stronger choice for remote scenery, walking safaris, and wildlife viewed from the water. Both parks reward dry-season travel, but their landscapes and daily activities create very different safari styles. [2][5]
Hwange National Park is known for large elephant herds. [2][3] The park fits travelers who want repeated game drives, broad landscapes, and a classic Zimbabwe wildlife experience. Elephant viewing is the main draw, but the park’s appeal also comes from its sense of space and strong guiding culture.
Known for: Large elephant herds and classic game viewing. [2][3]
Best for: First-time safari travelers, photographers, families, and visitors who prefer vehicle-based wildlife drives.
Safari style: Plan for early drives, long wildlife searches, and time around productive water sources. Ask your operator how much time the itinerary spends inside the national park and how much it uses nearby private land.
Mana Pools National Park is known for remote landscapes and water-based wildlife viewing along the Zambezi. [2] Mana Pools is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Guided walking and canoeing allow visitors to experience hippos and elephants from a closer, more active viewpoint. [5]
Known for: Remote wilderness, the Zambezi, guided walking, and canoeing. [2][5]
Best for: Experienced safari travelers, photographers, walkers, canoeing enthusiasts, and visitors seeking a quieter setting.
Safari style: Expect more time on foot or on the water. Walking near large wildlife requires careful guiding and strict safety rules. Choose a professional operator with clear experience in Mana Pools activities.
Hwange and Mana Pools are not simply two versions of the same trip. Hwange centers on land-based game viewing and elephant sightings. Mana Pools centers on the relationship between wildlife, water, and wilderness. Your preferred activity should guide the decision more than a simple park ranking.
The best combined itinerary uses each park for its main strength. Spend time in Hwange for classic drives and elephant viewing. Then continue to Mana Pools for walking, canoeing, and Zambezi landscapes. A listed 2026 itinerary runs for 12 days and 11 nights, from October 30 to November 10, for six participants. It was marked sold out. [6]
Compare Zimbabwe safari packages for Hwange and Mana Pools to see which trip style matches your dates and interests.
Hwange offers the clearest match for elephant-focused game drives, while Mana Pools offers the clearest match for walking and canoeing. A combined safari gives you both styles, but current listings show that popular departures can sell out and that displayed “$0 pp” prices are not usable quotes. [6][7]
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hwange National Park | Operator quote required | Varies by package | Not supplied | Elephant herds and game drives |
| Mana Pools National Park | Operator quote required | Varies by package | Not supplied | Walking, canoeing, and remote scenery |
| Combined Hwange and Mana Pools itinerary | Not published; one listing marked sold out | 12 days, 11 nights | Not supplied | Travelers wanting both safari styles |
Price range: A reliable 2026 price range cannot be stated from the supplied package data. One 2026/2027 listing displays “$0 pp” for a 13-day Zimbabwe-and-Botswana trip and a 10-day Zimbabwe itinerary. Those figures do not provide usable current pricing. [7]
Therefore, travelers should request a written quote. Ask whether the price includes park fees, transfers, accommodation, meals, activities, drinks, and international flights. These details can change the final cost more than the number of safari days.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. Use the marketplace to compare operators, check package details, and request a quote that matches your dates.
Request a quote from verified Zimbabwe safari operators for your budget before making a final park choice.
Camp location changes the safari experience. Camps inside national-park boundaries follow park rules. Camps in nearby private concessions may offer night drives and off-road driving, depending on the concession and its operating rules. [1]
Ask three direct questions before booking:
This distinction matters in both Hwange and Mana Pools. A lower price may reflect a different camp location, activity set, or transfer plan. Read the full itinerary instead of comparing only the headline number.
The best time for Zimbabwe Safari Parks in 2026 is May to October. Dry-season conditions generally make wildlife easier to find, while July and August bring strong demand for quality camps in Hwange and Mana Pools. Travelers should book six to nine months ahead for those peak months. [1][2][5]
May to June is a strong choice for travelers who want dry-season safari conditions without choosing the busiest travel months. The 2026 guidance identifies May to October as the recommended safari window. [2][5] Ask operators about water levels, road conditions, and the activities available on your planned dates.
July and August are high-demand months for quality camps. Camps in both Hwange and Mana Pools reportedly run near capacity during this period. Booking six to nine months ahead is recommended. [1]
July and August also suit travelers who want a classic dry-season trip. However, availability matters more than small differences between the parks. A flexible traveler can compare both parks and consider May, June, September, or October.
September and October remain inside the recommended May-to-October window. [2][5] These months may suit travelers who prefer late dry-season conditions. Confirm the exact camp dates and activities before paying a deposit, especially for walking and canoeing in Mana Pools.
Duration: Allow about 10 to 12 days for a meaningful Hwange and Mana Pools combination. Current listings include a 10-day Zimbabwe itinerary and a 12-day, 11-night combined itinerary. [6][7] A 13-day option is also listed for a Zimbabwe-and-Botswana trip. [7]
A shorter trip can focus on one park. Choose Hwange when elephant viewing and game drives are your priority. Choose Mana Pools when walking and canoeing matter most. A combined plan needs time for transfers, camp changes, and rest.
Zimbabwe trip planning also includes entry and health checks. Norwegian, Danish, and Austrian travelers should review current visa and vaccination guidance before booking flights. SafariFind’s guides cover the Zimbabwe visa rules for Norwegian citizens and the vaccination advice for Danish travelers.
Travelers should also check the current guidance for their own passport and health needs. Requirements can change. Build this check into your planning timeline, not the week before departure.
Start by choosing your main activity, travel month, and trip length. Then compare camp locations, transfers, and included activities. A verified operator should explain whether the itinerary uses national-park camps, private concessions, guided walks, canoeing, night drives, or off-road viewing. [1]
Choose Hwange if large elephant herds and vehicle-based wildlife viewing lead your wish list. Choose Mana Pools if remote landscapes, guided walking, and canoeing sound more appealing. Choose both parks if you have at least 10 to 12 days and want a wider Zimbabwe experience.
Set dates between May and October for the recommended 2026 dry-season window. [2][5] If you want July or August, start the search six to nine months early. [1] As of July 2026, some future departures already show limited availability or sold-out status. [6]
Mana Pools walking and canoeing require a traveler who feels comfortable with active wildlife viewing. Ask how guides manage close encounters with hippos and elephants. Hwange may suit travelers who prefer a vehicle, although walking options can still depend on the selected camp and concession.
Families should ask about minimum ages, room layouts, and vehicle plans. Photographers should ask about vehicle seating, drive times, water access, and whether off-road driving is allowed. These questions create a better match than choosing a park from photos alone.
SafariFind lets you compare verified tour operators and read authentic traveler reviews. Use those reviews to check guide quality, communication, camp standards, and transfer reliability. Request a quote when the itinerary fits your dates, then compare the written inclusions line by line.
For wider planning, read Zimbabwe safari packages and 2026 itinerary ideas. Travelers who want to understand the value question can also review whether a Zimbabwe safari is worth it in 2026.
Hwange is better for large elephant herds and classic game drives. Mana Pools is better for remote landscapes, guided walking, and canoeing on the Zambezi. Choose Hwange for vehicle-based wildlife viewing. Choose Mana Pools for a more active and water-focused safari. [2][5]
The best Zimbabwe safari season in 2026 is May to October. July and August are popular dry-season months, but quality camps can run near capacity. Book six to nine months ahead for those dates. [1][2][5]
You need about 10 to 12 days for a combined Hwange and Mana Pools safari. Current listings show a 10-day Zimbabwe itinerary and a 12-day, 11-night combined itinerary. [6][7] This length allows time for both parks and their different activities.
A reliable 2026 Zimbabwe safari price range is not available from the supplied listings. Some package pages display “$0 pp,” which is not a usable price. Request a written operator quote and confirm park fees, transfers, meals, camp nights, and activities.
Mana Pools is known for guided walking and canoeing among hippos and elephants. [5] These activities require trained guides and careful safety rules. Ask your operator whether each activity is included, available on your dates, and suitable for your group.
Choose a national-park camp for direct access to park activities and rules. Choose a nearby private concession when night drives or off-road driving are important and permitted. [1] Ask the operator to state the camp location and activity rules in writing.
Use SafariFind to compare verified tour operators, review authentic traveler feedback, and request a quote for Hwange, Mana Pools, or both parks. Match the package to your dates, budget, activity level, and preferred camp location before booking.
Zimbabwe Safari Parks: Hwange vs Mana Pools in 2026 offer two distinct ways to experience the country. Hwange is the better fit for large elephant herds and classic game drives. Mana Pools is the better fit for remote scenery, walking, and canoeing beside the Zambezi. [2][5]
Travel between May and October for the recommended dry-season window. Book six to nine months early for July and August. Allow 10 to 12 days if you want to combine both parks, and ask for a written quote because some current listings show no usable price. [1][6][7]

"Cultural Vibes Travel and Tours has proved to be excellent yet again as this is now the third time, we have used them and a much-needed break after almost 3 years with the Covid pandemic. Tongesai is extremely reliable, professional, knowledgeable and does everything to make your trip a memorable experience. Compared to local larger companies, Tongesai’s individual package rates are more reasonable and come with a customized touch. We felt that our holiday with Tongesai was much better and suited us more so than if we had booked through a larger company. His individual tailoring, personal involvement and attention to detail pays off in the smooth running of your trip. Our visits to the Victoria Falls, both sides from Zimbabwe and Zambia were magnificent and never cease to amaze us. On this trip Tongesai arranged for a private sunset cruise on the Zambezi just for our family of four instead of on the larger vessels, which was a very pleasant alternative. The boat trip in Chobe is magical and a must if you venture into Botswana. Wildlife was in abundance, including lion, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, puku, kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, gemsbok, steenbok, sable and roan antelope, etc. We even saw a relative of Cecil, the famous black-maned lion, ‘once a true king of Hwange National Park’. I have no hesitation in recommending the company for arranging tours in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana - we will definitely be seeing him again. He is currently setting up arrangements with colleagues in Kruger National Park to venture into South Africa and I wish him every success with that."

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"My travel companions and I chose the 4 day experience. Technically it is really a 3 day experience, because the last day they provide airport transportation. I feel they go above and beyond in making sure they are providing their customers with a safe, exciting and exceptional experience. Gari was our driver/guide in Zimbabwe, and was friendly, helpful, and courteous. Gari either made sure we were where we needed to be or provided his own guide trip to the Victoria Falls. He even provided the rain gear, which is most necessary. Gari and his "boss" Mr T. went above and beyond when Delta postponed our flight by a day, by helping to make sure that the connecting airline would change our reservation. They then made sure we got to the airport on time, a day later. They are always willing to provide any additional things that you would like to see and do. If you looking for a guided tour company, this is the one to use, and one that I would have no hesitation in using again."

"First, Tongesai Mtematsaka was excellent with communications and service. We couldn’t have asked for better. My questions via email were promptly answered. His English was excellent, and better. He was always on time in meeting us, coming and going. Our two hour trips from VIc Falls to the sable sands lodge, and then from the lodge to the Vic Falls airport were a highlight to our entire Africa trip. My wife and I will be discussing various aspects from the discussions with Tongesai for some time to come. By patiently answering my many questions he educated my wife and I about Zimbabwe and the region - culture, practices and assets of the people, typical family life, economy, weather, etc., and possibilities and trends into the future - all believable and detailed. The staff and facilities at the sable sands lodge were all excellent, beginning with Michelle’s clear instructions and cautions. She was a delight. We were asked if we wanted to take a charming hut as close as we could get to the marvelous watering hole there and got it. Incredibly we were greeted by a dust-cloud from a herd of maybe 100 Cape buffalo running to the water - unbelievable! The meals prepared by So and Derik were really good, throughout. MC, our drive guide was excellent and very accommodating to all the guests in the comfortable and safe-feeling, open 4x4. We met some nice co-guests. We saw so many animals on our safari that I will not attempt to recall here. I would just say that the many watering holes in the Hwange park were impressive, As an environmentalist myself I was very impressed with the solar powered system for exploiting the aquifers, and the foresight of the authorities in developing and maintains these. I know the history going back to the 1920’s, but if there wasn’t maintainence and upgrade the animals could not continue, especially with drought effects of climate change. Finally, I must comment on the fact that our first night in our hut was spent listening to the rumblings of the elephant just outside out hut. In the morning the tracks outside our hut showed how close our visitor was. We knew then that Michelle’s cautions were serious. But then more, the second night we had a lioness spend the night outside our hut, perhaps roaring a mating call. At first light MC came by with the truck and asked if we wanted to see the lion. I shot out with my camera. What an experience!! We hope our parting tip to the group of 16 people providing excellent service was meaningful. I will certainly recommend this trip to anyone who will hear me. What a privilege!!!"

"We booked our Zimbabwe trip with Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours following a recommendation from Nhongo Safaris in South Africa. Tongesai is a great communicator, and the booking process was quick, easy, and well organized. We were happy with the quote provided and were able to easily pay online. Tongesai was waiting for us at Victoria Falls Airport to take us to our accommodation. He has arranged an amazing whirlwind 48 hour visit, that was packed with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, Morning Game drive, he accompanied us on an amazing walk of the Victoria falls and arranged an African experience dinner in the evening. It was so memorable, and everything we wanted! Overall, it was an fantastic trip, with a great guide, and we would highly recommend it for anyone considering a trip to Victoria Falls. For our next visit, we will definitely be reaching out to Tongesai and thoroughly recommend to all our friends."
