Rothschild’s giraffe is not the giraffe subspecies recorded in Mozambique: the country’s documented populations are South African giraffe. Mozambique nevertheless supports an estimated 378 giraffes across protected areas and conservancies, with habitat protection, reintroductions and monitoring remaining priorities [1].

Namibia has about two people per square kilometre, making space one of its defining travel features. [8]
A Namibia self drive safari in 2027 starts around US$5,000 per person, while luxury trips can exceed US$1,000 per day. Popular routes connect desert scenery, coastal towns, and wildlife parks. A 14-day route gives you time to cover major highlights, but your final quote depends on the vehicle, lodging, permits, fuel, exchange rates, and trip length.
A Namibia self drive safari is an independent road journey through desert landscapes, wildlife areas, and coastal scenery. You rent a suitable vehicle, follow a planned route, and stay at selected camps or lodges. In 2027, this style suits travelers who want control over their pace and route.
Namibia is known for wide spaces, desert scenery, wildlife parks, and long road journeys. The country offers a different safari experience from a small, guided game-drive circuit. Instead, the drive itself becomes part of the adventure. Safari routes can link Etosha National Park, the Namib Desert, and the coast.
Self-drive travel matters because it lets you choose how long to stop. You can spend more time at a waterhole, pause for a landscape photograph, or change your overnight plan when a route takes longer than expected. However, independent travel still needs careful planning, especially on gravel roads and long rural stretches.
Namibia is known for iconic desert landscapes, the dunes around Sossusvlei, and wildlife encounters in Etosha. Safari Frank describes self-drive routes as covering Etosha, desert landscapes, and other major destinations. [6] The route can also include the Atlantic coast, historic towns, and remote mountain areas.
Namib-Naukluft National Park is a major route choice for travelers who want dramatic desert scenery. The Deadvlei area adds stark white clay, dark trees, and red dunes to a desert-focused itinerary. These stops create a strong contrast with the wildlife viewing found farther north.
A Namibia self drive safari is best for travelers who enjoy planning, long drives, and flexible daily schedules. It also suits photographers who want time to wait for changing light. Families may value private vehicle space, while couples often prefer the freedom to choose their own overnight pace.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. You can use the marketplace to compare route ideas before deciding whether to drive fully independently or request local support.
Compare Namibia self drive safari packages and quotes for 2027
A Namibia self drive safari costs about US$5,000 per person at the commonly cited starting point. Luxury travel can exceed US$1,000 per day. These figures are planning guides rather than final invoices because vehicle class, lodging, permits, fuel, trip length, and exchange rates change the total. [1][8]
SafariFind’s published balloon safari rate is N$10,720 per person for travel from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. [1] This is one example of an optional experience that can add to a self-drive budget. Treat it as a dated planning figure, then confirm the current rate when requesting a quote.
Vehicle class often has the largest effect on a self-drive quote. A basic vehicle may suit a simple road plan, while a larger vehicle can add comfort and equipment for gravel routes. Lodging also creates a wide gap between a budget camp, a mid-range lodge, and a luxury property.
Trip length changes more than the number of hotel nights. Longer journeys also add fuel, food, vehicle hire, park costs, and possible route support. Exchange rates can change the price between the time you compare a quote and the date you pay. SafariFind advises using published figures as planning points, not final invoices. [1]
Ask every operator to show the same cost items. This makes comparisons fair and helps you spot missing services. Request a line-by-line quote that includes:

The best Namibia self-drive route depends on your available days and travel goals. A desert route focuses on Sossusvlei and the Namib-Naukluft area. A wildlife route gives more time to Etosha. A longer circuit adds the coast, mountains, and remote scenery. One listed ultimate itinerary lasts 14 days. [7]
The desert and coast route suits travelers who want varied scenery. The drive from Swakopmund to Sossusvlei is approximately 350 kilometres. [3] This distance needs realistic planning because scenic gravel roads can take longer than the map suggests.
Swakopmund works well as a coastal stop between desert sections. Read the Swakopmund Beach Holidays 2027 guide when you want to add beach time, coastal activities, or extra nights. Continue inland toward the dunes and Deadvlei for a sharp change in landscape.
Etosha National Park is the clearest choice for a wildlife-led self-drive safari. The park gives travelers a chance to plan repeated visits to waterholes and to set a slower pace. Safari Frank lists elephants, lions, and rhinos among the wildlife associated with Etosha routes. [6]
Etosha works best when you allow enough time for early drives, rest, and more than one viewing period. Use the Etosha National Park safari packages guide to compare 2027 planning details, package structures, and fee information.
A southern route can connect the Naukluft Mountains, Aus, and Lüderitz. These destinations suit travelers who prefer geology, wide views, and historic coastal settings. Add Brandberg if your route also includes dramatic mountain scenery.

The table uses planning benchmarks, not fixed package prices. Safari World Tours states that it has created Namibia journeys since 2018 and offers custom budget and mid-range tours that can start every day. [7] Compare the route, vehicle, and inclusions before comparing the headline price.
Start by choosing your route length, vehicle type, and main experience. Then match overnight stops to realistic driving days. Namibia’s primary roads are described as paved and well maintained, while many scenic routes are gravel. [3] Your plan should therefore allow time for slower road conditions and route changes.
Getting there depends on the arrival airport and the operator’s vehicle handover plan. Ask whether the quote includes airport collection, a vehicle briefing, and return support. Confirm the first and final overnight locations before paying a deposit.
Safari World Tours lists a 14-day ultimate self-drive itinerary and says its custom journeys can start every day. [7] That flexibility can help travelers compare different 2027 departure dates. It does not remove the need to confirm lodge availability, vehicle supply, and current park conditions.
Build shorter driving days around scenic sections. Keep a printed route plan and offline access to key booking details. Ask the operator how it handles breakdowns, route closures, late arrivals, and changes caused by weather.
Carry enough water and basic food for each remote driving day. Keep fuel planning visible in the itinerary. These are practical habits, not optional extras, when your route includes long gravel sections and distant overnight stops.
Self-drive travelers can support conservation by following park rules, keeping a safe distance from animals, and staying on permitted roads. Tourism also supports conservation work through park visits, local services, and responsible operator choices.

A Namibia self drive safari starts around US$5,000 per person in commonly cited planning guidance. Luxury options can exceed US$1,000 per day. Your final 2027 quote depends on the vehicle, lodging, permits, fuel, exchange rates, and trip length. [1][8]
A 14-day itinerary is a strong option for travelers who want a broad Namibia route. One listed ultimate self-drive itinerary lasts 14 days. Shorter trips can focus on Etosha or the desert, while longer routes allow more stops and slower driving days. [7]
Namibia’s primary roads are described as paved and well maintained, but many scenic routes are gravel. Plan slower travel on gravel sections and ask your operator which vehicle, insurance, and support services suit your route. [3]
The drive from Swakopmund to Sossusvlei is approximately 350 kilometres. The route can take longer than expected because scenic roads may be gravel. Build in time for stops, road conditions, and arrival before dark. [3]
“Safari namibia luxus” refers to a luxury Namibia safari with higher-end lodging, a stronger vehicle setup, and premium activities. Luxury options can exceed US$1,000 per day, so ask for clear inclusions and compare each quote line by line. [8]

A Namibia self drive safari in 2027 starts around US$5,000 per person, while luxury travel can exceed US$1,000 per day. [8] The right route depends on your time, driving comfort, and main goal. Choose Etosha for wildlife, Sossusvlei for desert scenery, or a 14-day circuit for a wider view of the country.
Use the US$5,000 figure as a starting point, not a promise. Confirm vehicle class, lodging, permits, fuel, and optional activities in writing. The N$10,720 balloon rate published for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 shows why dated activity prices need checking. [1]

"Tongesai was recommended to me by a friend who also booked his amazing safari through Cultural Vibes; I am glad we took his recommendation. Our safari across Victoria Falls and Botswana was top notch. Tongesai booked us in all of the best camps and with the best safari outfitters. Our excursions were extremely well planned and full of excitement. The restaurants were fantastic as well. Personally, I love planning my own vacations but honestly don't think there is an easy and reliable way to plan an African safari without using a travel agent very familiar with the region. Located in Zimbabwe and with a travel and tourism background, Tongesai was able to coordinate our stays between 5 safari camps which included private charter flights across the regions. He also personally escorted us into Botswana and helped with border crossing which was very helpful as well. Compared to larger companies, Tongesai's package rates were more reasonable and came with a customized touch. I highly recommend Cultural Vibes to anyone looking to go on safari in Zimbabwe and its bordering countries (Botswana, Zambia & Namibia). Thanks, T!"

"We were amazing group of 4 adults from Atlanta USA. Upon arrival we found our guide Stuart Muronga already waiting for us. He picked us up in a well air-conditioned vehicle and offered us water at soft drinks. Before going to check in we drove around the beautiful city . After checking in he dropped us off at the famous Boma restaurant..we had an amazing experience there over delicious meals and drums and dance. He picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. The next morning he picked us up for out safari experience in Chobe which is in Botswana just an hour drive from Vic Falls. We spent 6 hrs there then drove another 40 or so minutes to some island in Namibia. Stuart was so knowledgeable with great communication skills which made the whole experience so smooth and fun."

"I would like to note an excellent organisation of this tour. In advance Kubwa Five Safaris created whats app groupe for me so I had contacts of people who assisted me during my travel. I was picked up at the airport. My guide was waiting for me. The accommodations chosen for this trip were correct, clean with good service. The choice of restaurants corresponded the rate of this tour. We visited wonderfull places with beautiful landscapes, I enjoyed game drive and visit of Etosha parc. My driver was a professional guide, so I had explanations on historical events, culture, geology, flore and faune of the sites that we visited. Kubwa Five Safaris chose reliable partners in Namibia, that made my trip safe and I would like to thank them for that."
