Makgadikgadi Pans National Park tours in 2027 cost about US$450 to US$700 per person per night for reported mid-range stays. International visitors should budget BWP 120 per person per day for park entry, plus a reported BWP 50 vehicle fee where it applies. July to October is high season, while April to October also suits seasonal quad-bike outings. [2]
Makgadikgadi Pans National Park tours in 2027 combine wide salt pans, dry-country wildlife, and quiet camp stays in central Botswana. The park covers 3,900 square kilometres, and tour prices sit well above many short city-based day trips. [2]
Makgadikgadi Pans National Park is a strong choice for travelers who want open space and a slower safari pace. It also suits families, photographers, and visitors adding a desert stop to a longer Botswana route. The setting feels very different from the water channels of the Okavango Delta.
The quick answer is simple. A mid-range Makgadikgadi tour costs about US$450 to US$700 per person per night in 2027. Add park fees, check whether your camp charges a separate concession fee, and confirm access before paying a deposit. July to October is the listed high season. [2]
This guide explains what the park offers, what the price covers, and how to reach it. It also points out a real problem with current fee data. Published sources list different international adult rates, so your operator should confirm the final total in writing before you travel.
Makgadikgadi Pans National Park tours in 2027 are guided safari trips based around a large protected area in central Botswana. The park covers 3,900 square kilometres. Packages often combine camp accommodation, guided game drives, and activities suited to the dry landscape. Reported mid-range prices are US$450 to US$700 per person per night. [2]
Makgadikgadi Pans National Park is known for broad open ground and a strong sense of space. The park is part of a wider dry-country travel region that includes the Kalahari Desert. That wider setting makes the trip feel different from a dense woodland safari.
Known for: salt-pan scenery, quiet camp stays, desert views, and wildlife drives. The park also supports special activities at selected camps. A 2027 family itinerary lists Meno a Kwena inside the park, with private game drives and stargazing. [1]
Makgadikgadi Pans National Park works best for travelers who value landscape as much as animal sightings. The open setting gives photographers clean horizons and strong light. Families may also prefer a camp that offers private drives, since the guide can shape the outing around the group.
Seasonal activities add another reason to stay. A listed quad-bike outing is available from April through October. [1] This date window does not cover every camp or every tour, so ask whether the activity runs during your chosen dates.
The nearby Motloutse River and other Botswana stops can help build a wider route. However, adding more places also adds transfers and nights. Keep the route focused if you want more time in the pans.
Why it matters: Makgadikgadi gives you a different Botswana experience without copying the Okavango Delta. The park can suit a first Botswana trip, but it also works as a quieter second stop after a busier safari area.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park tours cost about US$450 to US$700 per person per night for reported mid-range stays in 2027. Luxury rates can reach about US$1,223 per person per day. Park entry fees sit outside many lodge or camp prices, so ask for a full cost breakdown. [2]
The US$450 to US$700 range describes a reported mid-range stay, not a fixed park tariff. Your final price depends on the camp, room setup, season, activities, and transfer plan. A luxury package can rise to about US$1,223 per person per day. [2]
Price range: US$450 to US$700 per person per night for reported mid-range tours. Luxury price: about US$1,223 per person per day. Use these figures as planning numbers for 2027, then request a dated quote that states what the operator includes.
Most travelers should ask whether the rate covers accommodation, meals, drinks, guided drives, activities, transfers, and taxes. A low headline rate may exclude a flight, road transfer, or special activity. A higher rate may include more services, which can make it easier to compare like with like.
International visitors are reported to pay BWP 120 per person per day for park entry. A BWP 50 vehicle fee is also reported where applicable. [2][3] These charges may appear as separate lines on your quote.
Published information is not fully consistent. One source lists BWP 120 for an international visitor, while another lists BWP 380 for an international adult in Makgadikgadi Pans and other Botswana parks. [3][6] Treat the lower figure as a reported rate, not a promise.
Private camps in Wildlife Management Areas may also charge concession fees. Those fees are different from national park entry charges. [2] Ask your operator to separate park entry, vehicle fees, concession fees, and activity costs.
July to October is listed as high season for Makgadikgadi Pans travel. [2] Demand may be higher during this period, so early planning helps you compare the available camps. Green-season travel can offer lower rates, but the experience and activity choices may differ.
April to October is the listed window for a seasonal quad-bike outing. [1] If that activity matters to you, place the dates in your quote request. Do not assume every package includes it.
Use the SafariFind marketplace to check packages, compare inclusions, and read authentic traveler reviews. Review the detailed 2027 Makgadikgadi cost and fee guide before you request a final quote.
Getting to Makgadikgadi Pans National Park requires a planned road or air transfer from your wider Botswana route. Your operator should confirm the arrival point, transfer time, vehicle type, and any flight cost before you book. Access planning matters because the park is part of a broad, low-density travel region.
Start by choosing your main Botswana entry route. Travelers may build a route around Maun, Francistown, or another stop. The best choice depends on the rest of your itinerary and the camp’s transfer plan. Do not book an international arrival and assume the camp transfer is automatic.
Maun safari packages for 2027 can help you compare routes that combine the pans with other Botswana areas. A route through Francistown may also suit travelers who want to include a city stop. Your operator can explain which route keeps travel time sensible.
Getting there: ask for the exact pickup point, transfer date, vehicle type, and backup plan. Confirm whether the quoted price includes the transfer. This small check can prevent an unexpected extra charge after you arrive in Botswana.
Families should also ask about child rules, private drives, and camp activities. The 2027 family itinerary featuring Meno a Kwena lists private game drives and stargazing. [1] These details can make a large difference to the feel of a family trip.
Keep transfer days clear when possible. A packed schedule leaves little room for flight delays or road changes. It also reduces time for the wildlife drives that you are paying for.
Build the route around the experience you want. Add Chobe National Park if you want a different safari setting, or compare the access notes for Chobe safari packages and fees in 2027. Do this before locking in non-refundable transfers.
Some travelers want a desert-focused trip, while others want a larger Botswana circuit. Both plans can work. The key is to match the number of nights with the time needed for each transfer.
Plan a Makgadikgadi Pans National Park tour by fixing your travel month, budget, and preferred activity first. Then compare what each quote includes. This approach helps you avoid comparing a simple camp rate with an all-inclusive luxury package.
Best for: travelers who want wide landscapes, private activities, family-friendly planning, and a quieter Botswana stop. The park is also a good fit for photographers who enjoy open views and changing light.
Families should look for private game drives and clear activity rules. Couples may prefer a smaller camp with a quiet setting. Photographers should ask about vehicle access, drive timing, and whether the camp offers a private vehicle.
Travelers who want a walking safari may prefer a different Botswana area. Read about Khwai walking safaris in 2027 before choosing a trip based mainly on walking time.
A good quote should name the camp, room type, travel dates, number of nights, activities, meals, transfers, fees, and cancellation terms. If the quote only states “Botswana safari,” ask for more detail. Clear paperwork is worth a few extra questions.
Pack light clothing, a warm layer, sun protection, closed shoes, and a small day bag. Dry-country days can feel hot, while early drives may feel cool. Ask your operator about luggage limits if a light-aircraft transfer forms part of the route.
Keep your camera, documents, medication, and one change of clothes in your hand luggage. This simple habit helps if checked luggage arrives later than you do. Your operator can provide the final luggage rules.
Safety also means respecting guide instructions. Stay inside the vehicle unless your guide gives permission to leave it. Follow camp rules around wildlife, fire, water, and night movement.

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."

"We went on a 3 day safari, and even though Tongesai did not lead it himself, I want to highly recommend his services. Our group consisted of just my family; my wife, children (9, 13, 14), and me. Tongesai acted as the agent, coordinating with the organization in Botswana that ran the actual tour. He met us several days in advance, and had informed us of some critical information (like make sure to bring birth certificates for the kids) well in advance. On the first day of the Safari, he came to pick us up, and drove us to the border, where he coordinated a smooth hand over to the Botswana organization. The guide from our safari was so good! ‘Cobra’ grew up in the bush, and if shows. He was frequently coordinating with, and showing other tour guides where to find the best big game sightings. We saw so many animals, including lions, hippos, tons of elephants and giraffes, and too many other animals to name. The meals were also great! Cobra and Tongesai had contracted with ‘chef K’ for catered breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp. All meals were great. And the camp itself was organized above my expectations. Very nice tents, raised cots, plenty warm, tables, chairs and napkins at every meal! All in all, the experience was pretty unforgettable. It’s not a cheap experience, but based on our trip I can highly recommend Tongesai’s services!"
