Lower Zambezi Safari Packages 2027: First-Timer's Guide explains how to plan a simple, well-paced trip in Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park. You will find real price points, activity details, travel seasons, and questions to ask before booking. The park suits travelers who want classic game drives with time on the Zambezi River.
Lower Zambezi National Park is a strong first safari choice because one itinerary can include drives, walking, boating, canoeing, and fishing. Horizon Guides rates its Lower Zambezi itinerary as easy in physical difficulty. Walking activities still need basic outdoor fitness and good shoes. [1]
As of October 2026, 2027 planning gives you time to compare trip lengths and camp styles. A budget four-day trip starts at US$895, while a five-day luxury camp experience starts at US$5,236. [3] [1] These prices show how much accommodation and service level can change the final bill.
Quick answer: Lower Zambezi safari packages in 2027 cost US$895 to US$5,236 per person in the listed examples. Choose May to October for the dry season. Plan four days for a focused wildlife trip, or five to seven days for more river time and a slower pace.
Lower Zambezi safari packages are guided trips in Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park. They combine open-vehicle game drives with river activities and walking safaris. The main choice is not whether to see wildlife. It is how much time, comfort, and water-based travel you want.
Lower Zambezi National Park is known for game drives, canoeing, boating, fishing, and walking safaris. [1][2][4] That mix gives first-time visitors more ways to explore each day. You can watch wildlife from a vehicle in the morning, then spend the afternoon near the river.
The Zambezi River changes the feel of this safari. A canoe trip puts you close to the water and gives you a quiet view of the riverbank. A boat trip offers a different pace. Both activities need a guide who understands currents, wildlife space, and safe viewing distances.
Game drives usually last three to four hours and run twice daily on one Lower Zambezi safari guide's schedule. [4] Early drives suit cooler temperatures and active animals. Evening drives can lead into night drives, when guides may look for leopard, spotted hyena, civet, and honey badger. [4]
Lower Zambezi safari packages are best for travelers who want a guided introduction without committing to a long walking trip. The itinerary is rated easy in physical difficulty, but walking still calls for basic fitness and suitable shoes. [1] That balance works well for couples, small groups, and families who want options.
Families should check age rules and activity limits before paying a deposit. River activities and night drives may have different rules than daytime game drives. Ask the operator to explain which activities suit each traveler in your group.

Lower Zambezi National Park matters because it lets you build variety into a short trip. A four-day visit can focus on wildlife drives. A five-day trip gives you more room for a river outing and a walking activity. A longer route can add another Zambian park.
Kafue National Park is one possible add-on for travelers who want a wider Zambia route. SafariFind's guide to Kafue National Park safari packages for first-timers can help you compare that option. The two parks create a bigger trip, but they also add travel time and cost.
Lower Zambezi safari packages cost US$895 to US$5,236 per person in the listed 2027 examples. The US$895 trip lasts four days and uses a private double room. The five-day luxury camp example starts at US$5,236. [3] [1] Treat these figures as planning points, then check what each package includes.
The four-day wildlife-focused safari is listed at US$895 per person. A promotional price of US$806 is also shown. The listing includes a private double room and Lower Zambezi National Park entry fees of US$30. [3]
The budget trip has a guaranteed departure from March 31 to April 3, 2027. [3] That date falls outside the May to October dry season often preferred for safari travel. It may suit travelers who value a fixed departure and lower entry price, but you should ask how seasonal conditions affect the activities.
A five-day luxury camp experience starts at US$5,236 per person. [1] The higher rate reflects a different level of camp and service than the four-day budget listing. Compare room type, meals, transfers, guide service, activities, and park fees before judging value.
A longer Zambia route can cost more. One seven-day itinerary combining Kafue and Lower Zambezi starts at US$5,680. [5] This option adds a second park and more days, so it suits travelers who want a broader trip rather than the lowest Lower Zambezi price.
| Trip style | Duration | Listed price per person | What stands out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget wildlife safari | 4 days | US$895, or US$806 promotional price | Private double room and US$30 park entry fee [3] |
| Luxury camp experience | 5 days | From US$5,236 | Higher-end camp stay [1] |
| Kafue and Lower Zambezi route | 7 days | From US$5,680 | Two-park itinerary [5] |
Price is only one part of the decision. A lower rate may give you fewer nights or a simpler room. A higher rate may buy more space, private guiding, or a slower schedule. Read the inclusions line by line. Then request a quote that matches your room choice and activity goals.
Working with a firm budget? Request quotes for Lower Zambezi packages within your 2027 budget and compare the inclusions before you book.
These questions prevent a cheap-looking package from becoming expensive later. They also help you compare a four-day trip with a five-day luxury stay on fair terms.
The best time to visit Lower Zambezi National Park is May to October, during the dry season. This period is the clearest choice for first-time travelers who want regular game drives and easier planning. The park also operates itineraries from January through December, so you can travel outside those months. [1]
May to October is the main planning window for a first Lower Zambezi safari. Dry-season travel is often chosen for wildlife viewing because water becomes more limited. Animals may gather near reliable water points, while roads can be easier to use.
A May trip can suit travelers who want an earlier start to the dry season. July, August, and September are useful months to compare when planning around school holidays or work leave. October can feel warmer, so ask your operator about daily activity times and camp conditions.
Lower Zambezi itineraries operate from January through December. [1] That means a 2027 trip is possible in every month listed by the operator. However, first-timers should ask how rain affects road access, canoeing, walking, and game-drive schedules before choosing a less common travel month.
The March 31 to April 3, 2027 budget departure is a useful example. [3] It offers a fixed date and a lower listed price, but it does not sit in the May to October dry-season window. Ask for a day-by-day plan before booking that departure.
Four days is enough for a focused introduction. It gives you a short wildlife trip with guided activities and a clear price point. Five days works better if you want to slow down and add a river or walking activity.
Seven days suits travelers who want Lower Zambezi combined with Kafue. The listed seven-day route starts at US$5,680. [5] It gives you a wider Zambia experience, but the extra park means more planning and a larger budget.
SafariFind's five-day Lower Zambezi itinerary guide is useful when comparing a short trip with a longer camp stay. You can also review the 2027 Kafue month-by-month guide if you are considering both parks.
Start by choosing your travel month, trip length, and preferred activity. Then compare the full package price, room type, park fees, and guide service. A good first trip has enough structure to feel easy, but enough free time for the river and wildlife.
Choose a wildlife-first trip if you want two daily drives and a focused park visit. Choose a river-first trip if canoeing or boating is a major reason for travel. Choose a mixed itinerary if you want drives, walking, and time on the Zambezi.
Game drives last three to four hours and may run twice daily on the listed schedule. [4] That can make for a full day outdoors. Tell your operator if you prefer one drive, a longer rest, or a balance between land and water.
Horizon Guides rates its itinerary as easy in physical difficulty. Walking activities still require basic outdoor fitness and suitable shoes. [1] Pack closed shoes with firm soles, light clothing, sun protection, and a layer for early drives.
You do not need to train for a hard trek. You do need to walk comfortably on uneven ground and follow your guide's instructions. Ask about walking distance before you confirm the itinerary.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. Use those details to compare what each operator includes, how the trip is paced, and whether past travelers describe clear communication. A review is most useful when it mentions guides, rooms, transfers, and activity quality.
Do not compare only the headline price. Check whether the package includes the park entry fee, meals, transfers, and river activities. The budget listing includes a US$30 park entry fee, which gives you a useful example of the detail to look for. [3]
Ask for the final itinerary, payment dates, cancellation terms, room setup, and transfer plan. Confirm the departure date in writing. This matters when choosing a guaranteed departure such as March 31 to April 3, 2027. [3]
Travelers adding Victoria Falls can use SafariFind's Victoria Falls destination guide when planning an extra stop. The Livingstone hotels guide for 2027 can help with an overnight stay near the falls. Keep that extension separate from your Lower Zambezi budget so the costs stay clear.

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."
"Tongesai and his team provided a wonderful itinerary on our recent trip to Victoria Falls with day trips to Zambia and Botswana. They were a thoughtful and knowledgeable team who took great care to tailor the trip to our family's needs."
"Our guide Tongesai was incredibly respectful, punctual, and friendly. He also helped us with transfers to and from the airport. The experience of visiting Victoria Falls on the Zambia side was amazing. The scenery is wonderful!!!"
"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
