Swiss travellers to Madagascar generally need to assess their full flight itinerary rather than their nationality alone: a yellow fever certificate is required when arriving from a yellow-fever-risk country, including a qualifying transit. Routine vaccines, mosquito-bite prevention and a personalised malaria assessment are also important.

A Botswana safari can cost from $650 per person per day, while Tanzania offers options from about $350 per person per day. [1] That price gap reflects two very different safari styles, not simply better or worse value.
Botswana vs Tanzania safari planning comes down to style, wildlife goals, and budget. Botswana is best for quiet luxury, remote camps, Chobe elephants, and Okavango Delta water activities. Tanzania is best for the Great Migration, Serengeti calving, classic game drives, and more flexible prices. In 2026, plan around $650 or more per person daily in Botswana and about $350 or more in Tanzania.
Botswana vs Tanzania safari planning is a choice between two strong but different African safari models. Botswana focuses on remote camps, low visitor numbers, fly-in travel, and water-based wildlife viewing. Tanzania offers a broader mix of parks, road journeys, migration viewing, and beach extensions.
As of 2026, Botswana generally costs more because remote camps depend on charter flights and premium operations. Tanzania offers a wider range of price points because travelers can follow a more straightforward driving circuit. [1] Your best choice depends on the animals you want to see, your comfort level, and your total trip budget.
Quick answer: Choose Botswana for private-feeling wilderness, luxury camps, elephants, and the Okavango Delta. Choose Tanzania for the Great Migration, Serengeti calving, Ngorongoro, and easier budget control. Botswana starts near $650 per person daily, while Tanzania starts near $350. Both destinations can deliver excellent wildlife viewing in 2026.
This guide compares wildlife, cost, travel style, trip length, health planning, and entry questions. It also explains what to do in Maun, where Kasane is located, and how SafariFind helps you compare verified operators and authentic traveler reviews.
Botswana is the stronger choice for remote, quiet, high-end safari travel. Tanzania is the stronger choice for classic game drives, major migration events, and a wider range of safari budgets. The difference comes from geography, transport, camp style, and each country’s approach to tourism.
Botswana is known for luxury camps, quiet wilderness, Chobe elephants, and the Okavango Delta. [3] Many trips use small charter aircraft to reach remote camps. This model reduces long road transfers, but it also raises the daily price.
The Okavango Delta adds a special feature. Depending on water levels and local rules, travelers may explore floodplains by mokoro canoe or boat. Game drives remain important, but water activities can change the pace of a Botswana safari.
Botswana’s high-cost, low-volume approach supports remote camp operations and limits the number of visitors in key wilderness areas. [1] That policy helps create a quieter feel. It also means that a lower-cost, large-group safari is harder to find in prime areas.
Tanzania is known for the Great Migration, Serengeti calving season, classic park routes, and Zanzibar extensions. [3] A standard route can include the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara.
Tanzania’s driving-circuit model is more straightforward for many visitors. [1] You can connect several parks by road, spend more nights in one region, and choose from camping, mid-range lodges, or luxury camps.
The Great Migration is a major reason travelers compare these countries. Tanzania also works well for people who want a safari followed by time on Zanzibar. That combination gives you wildlife, culture, and an Indian Ocean beach stay in one trip.

Tanzania usually offers stronger value for first-time safari travelers who want many parks and major wildlife events. Botswana offers stronger value for travelers who prioritize privacy, low-density wilderness, and premium camp service. Value depends on the experience you want, not only the nightly rate.
Botswana is best for travelers who want elephants, predators, floodplains, and a slower wilderness rhythm. Chobe is especially associated with large elephant populations and river-based viewing. The Okavango Delta adds mokoro and boat activities to the normal game-drive menu. [3]
Remote camps can place you close to changing habitats. One day may focus on a game drive. The next may include a water excursion or a walking activity, subject to camp location and local conditions.
Botswana also suits honeymooners and luxury travelers who prefer small camps. The trip often feels personal because the camps sit far from major roads and busy city centers. However, that privacy carries a clear cost.
Tanzania is best for travelers who want the Great Migration, Serengeti calving, and a classic northern safari route. [3] The country also supports varied itineraries, from short park visits to longer journeys that include several ecosystems.
A Tanzania route can offer more control over spending. Travelers can choose budget camping, comfortable lodges, or high-end tented camps. Road travel also makes it easier to add or remove a park without arranging several charter flights.
The migration calendar matters. Calving season and river-crossing periods attract different travelers, so your route should match your wildlife goal. Ask operators for the exact area and month rather than booking a country without checking the route.
Botswana safari prices generally start around $650 per person per day, while Tanzania starts around $350 per person per day. [1] These are broad starting points, not guaranteed quotes. Camp level, season, flights, private vehicles, and trip length can change the final total.
A premium Botswana safari guide lists $1,500 to $4,500 per person per day for generally all-inclusive experiences. [8] These rates often cover premium drinks, private guides, and internal flights. Therefore, compare what each quote includes before comparing headline prices.
A USA-origin African safari is estimated at $5,000 to $15,000 per person. International flights from the United States may add $800 to $1,500. [5] Your final budget also depends on whether you add Zanzibar, Victoria Falls, extra hotel nights, or private transfers.
Read the Botswana safari cost per person guide to understand budget tiers, then check inclusions line by line.
Compare Botswana safari prices and value in 2026 when privacy and premium service matter more than the lowest daily rate.
Start by choosing your wildlife goal, travel month, and spending limit. Then compare routes, transport, camp inclusions, and review quality. A seven-day itinerary works well for a focused trip, while ten days gives Botswana travelers more time to cover key highlights. [6]
Maun is a practical starting point for many Botswana safari routes, especially trips into the Okavango Delta. Travelers often use Maun as a gateway for charter flights to remote camps. Review the itinerary carefully because the town itself may be a brief stop rather than the main experience.
What to do in Maun Botswana: Use Maun as a safari gateway, arrange flights into the Delta, and confirm transfers with your operator. Maun is most useful for logistics rather than a long city stay. Your operator should explain pickup times, baggage limits, and the next flight connection.
Kasane is located in northeastern Botswana, near the Chobe River and the borders of Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its position makes it useful for Chobe safaris and regional add-ons. Confirm border plans before adding Victoria Falls or another country.
A seven-day Botswana safari is a sensible starting point for a focused itinerary. Ten days allows more time to explore key highlights and reduces the pressure of moving between camps. [6]
Vaccines and entry rules depend on your nationality, recent travel history, transit points, and personal health needs. Speak with a travel clinic before departure. Ask about routine vaccines, malaria prevention, yellow fever rules, and the timing of any recommended shots.
What vaccines do I need for Botswana? There is no single answer for every traveler. A licensed travel clinician should review your route and health history. The same advice applies to the questions “what vaccines do you need for Botswana?” and “do you need yellow fever for Botswana?”
Visa rules also depend on nationality and passport type. Canadian and United States travelers should confirm current rules with Botswana’s official immigration channels or their embassy before booking. This is important for questions such as “do Canadians need a visa for Botswana?” and “does Botswana require a visa for US citizens?”
For nationality-specific planning, read the guide on Botswana visa requirements for Chinese citizens. Health guidance for Chinese and Brazilian travelers also needs a route-specific review, not a generic checklist.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. Compare the vehicle type, camp location, internal flights, meals, park fees, transfers, and cancellation terms. Ask whether the quote is per person sharing or based on a private vehicle.
Review quality matters as much as price. Look for recent comments about guides, airport transfers, camp service, wildlife areas, and support when plans change. A low quote can lose value if it excludes flights or uses a long transfer between parks.
Use the Botswana safari month-by-month guide to match weather, water levels, and wildlife aims with your dates.
Botswana is better for quiet luxury, remote camps, Chobe elephants, and Okavango water activities. Tanzania is better for the Great Migration, Serengeti calving, classic park routes, and flexible budgets. The better destination depends on your wildlife goal, travel month, and preferred safari style.
A Botswana safari generally starts around $650 per person per day in 2026. Premium, mostly all-inclusive experiences can cost $1,500 to $4,500 per person per day. [8] Charter flights, remote camps, private guides, park fees, and season affect the final quote.
Maun is mainly a gateway for Botswana safari travel. Use it to arrange transfers, connect with charter flights, and enter the Okavango Delta. Confirm baggage limits, pickup times, and flight details with your operator before arriving.
Kasane is located in northeastern Botswana near the Chobe River and the borders of Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its location makes it a useful base for Chobe safaris and regional travel, including possible Victoria Falls extensions.
Vaccine advice for Botswana depends on your health history, travel route, transit countries, and recent destinations. Ask a travel clinic for personal advice before departure. Discuss routine vaccines, malaria prevention, and yellow fever rules with a qualified clinician.
Canadian visa requirements depend on current nationality rules, passport details, and the purpose and length of travel. Confirm the latest information with Botswana’s official immigration service or a Botswana diplomatic mission before booking flights.
United States travelers should confirm current Botswana entry rules before departure. Requirements can change and may depend on passport validity, length of stay, and transit plans. For booking help, compare verified operators and request a quote through SafariFind after checking official entry guidance.
Botswana and Tanzania offer different types of safari value in 2026. Botswana is the better match for travelers who want private-feeling wilderness, remote luxury camps, Chobe elephants, and Okavango Delta activities. Tanzania is the better match for travelers who want migration viewing, Serengeti calving, classic park routes, and more control over cost.
Start with a seven-day plan if you want a focused safari. Choose ten days if you want to explore more Botswana highlights or add a second region. Set a starting budget of about $650 per person daily for Botswana and $350 for Tanzania, then check exactly what each quote includes. [1]
Do not choose on price alone. Compare flights, park fees, guides, meals, camp location, and recent traveler feedback. Health and visa advice should come from qualified clinics and official immigration sources.

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"I spent a week in Botswana with cultural vibes, travels & tours and had not a single dull moment. The hotels/lodges we stayed at were very clean and service was professional. On the drives I had good conversations with the tour operator as he taught me a lot about the culture and about all the different animals (which we saw a lot of). Overall I had a great experience and would definitely book again."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."

"We went on a 3 day safari, and even though Tongesai did not lead it himself, I want to highly recommend his services. Our group consisted of just my family; my wife, children (9, 13, 14), and me. Tongesai acted as the agent, coordinating with the organization in Botswana that ran the actual tour. He met us several days in advance, and had informed us of some critical information (like make sure to bring birth certificates for the kids) well in advance. On the first day of the Safari, he came to pick us up, and drove us to the border, where he coordinated a smooth hand over to the Botswana organization. The guide from our safari was so good! ‘Cobra’ grew up in the bush, and if shows. He was frequently coordinating with, and showing other tour guides where to find the best big game sightings. We saw so many animals, including lions, hippos, tons of elephants and giraffes, and too many other animals to name. The meals were also great! Cobra and Tongesai had contracted with ‘chef K’ for catered breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp. All meals were great. And the camp itself was organized above my expectations. Very nice tents, raised cots, plenty warm, tables, chairs and napkins at every meal! All in all, the experience was pretty unforgettable. It’s not a cheap experience, but based on our trip I can highly recommend Tongesai’s services!"
