Published pricing includes about US$900 per person per night at Sanctuary Makanyane. March and November are strong months for cooler weather, while 2027 visitors should request current lodge quotes before booking.

Best Safari Lodges in Madikwe: 2027 Rates and Booking is a practical guide to choosing a private game reserve stay in South Africa. Madikwe suits travelers who want guided game drives, smaller lodge settings, and a safari area within reach of Johannesburg. It also gives families and couples a clear choice between larger lodges and intimate camps.
Madikwe Game Reserve is known for a malaria-free safari setting and cooler travel periods in March and November. [4] The reserve works well for a first safari, a family trip, or a luxury break added to a wider South Africa route.
The price picture needs care. One published lodge listing places Sanctuary Makanyane at about US$900 per person per night. [3] Other lodge rates depend on the room, travel dates, meal plan, transfers, and package terms. Therefore, use the published figure as a guide, then request a dated 2027 quote.
Quick answer: The best Madikwe lodge depends on your travel style and budget. Sanctuary Makanyane is listed at about US$900 per person per night and suits couples, honeymooners, and small groups. Madikwe Hills promotes three-night combinations and a Stay 7 Pay 5 offer for 2026 and 2027. [3][7]
Madikwe's best safari lodges serve different types of travelers. Sanctuary Makanyane suits couples and small groups seeking privacy, while Madikwe Safari Lodge gives families and couples a larger lodge option. Madikwe Hills works well for travelers who want package flexibility across selected lodges. [3][5][7]
Madikwe Game Reserve is known for private safari lodges, guided game drives, and a malaria-free setting. [4] That last point matters to families and travelers who prefer to avoid malaria areas. You should still ask a medical professional about travel health before departure.
Sanctuary Makanyane is listed at approximately US$900 per person per night. The lodge is described as best for couples, honeymooners, and small groups that want privacy and an adults-oriented stay. [3] Its price places it firmly in the luxury lodge category.
Madikwe Safari Lodge is promoted for bookings in 2026 and 2027. Freedom Destinations also offers the lodge with flights and accommodation in an ATOL-protected package. [5] This format may help travelers who want one booking for the main trip elements.
Families should compare room layouts, child policies, transfer times, and drive schedules before choosing. A 14-day itinerary from Magical Africa combines Johannesburg, Madikwe, Phinda, the Cape Winelands, the Whale Coast, and Cape Town. [2] That route shows how Madikwe can fit into a longer South Africa holiday.
Couples can focus on private settings and shorter transfers. Small groups can compare lodge exclusivity, shared drives, and room types. If your trip includes Cape Town, the Madikwe to Cape Luxury Escape combines three nights at Madikwe Hills with four nights at Camissa House. [7]
South Africa has many safari regions, so Madikwe is not the only choice. You can compare it with Kruger National Park, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, or MalaMala Private Game Reserve when building a wider safari plan.
Compare luxury South Africa safari lodge options for 2027 to match lodge style, route, and budget before requesting quotes.
Madikwe is useful for travelers who want a private reserve experience without making the trip only about Kruger. Its malaria-free status is a clear planning point. Its location also makes it practical for itineraries that start in Johannesburg and continue south toward Cape Town. [2][4]
The reserve is also a good fit for travelers who prefer lodge-based travel. You can spend several nights in one camp, take morning and afternoon drives, and let the lodge arrange daily meals and activities. Always check what the quoted 2027 rate includes.
Published 2027 pricing for Madikwe is limited to specific lodge listings and package offers. Sanctuary Makanyane is listed at about US$900 per person per night, while Madikwe Hills advertises a Stay 7 Pay 5 offer for 2026 and 2027. [3][7] Use these figures as planning points, not as a full market average.
Sanctuary Makanyane has a listed rate of approximately US$900 per person per night. [3] This is the clearest lodge price in the available material. The final 2027 cost can still change with season, room type, occupancy, transfers, and included activities.
Madikwe Hills promotes a package with three nights at each of any two participating lodges. The listed choices include Madikwe Hills, Tuningi Safari Lodge, Kings Camps in Timbavati, and Leopard Hills in Sabi Sand. [7] This offer suits travelers who want to compare two safari settings in one trip.
Madikwe Hills also advertises Stay 7 Pay 5 for 2026 and 2027. [7] A seven-night booking under this offer charges five nights, subject to the terms and dates set by the lodge. Ask for the full conditions before you rely on the saving.
| Lodge or offer | Published price or terms | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Sanctuary Makanyane | About US$900 per person per night | Couples, honeymooners, and small groups |
| Madikwe Hills two-lodge package | Three nights at each of two participating lodges | Travelers wanting a multi-lodge safari |
| Madikwe Hills Stay 7 Pay 5 | Seven nights charged as five nights | Travelers planning longer stays |
| Madikwe to Cape Luxury Escape | Three nights at Madikwe Hills and four nights at Camissa House | Safari and Cape Town combinations |
A useful lodge quote should show the number of nights, room type, meal plan, game drives, transfers, and taxes. It should also state whether flights are included. Freedom Destinations promotes accommodation and flights together for Madikwe Safari Lodge in an ATOL-protected package. [5]
Check cancellation terms before paying a deposit. Then compare the total cost rather than the nightly rate alone. A lower room price may exclude transfers or activities that another lodge includes.
Compare what South Africa safari quotes include in 2027 before choosing the cheapest-looking lodge rate.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. Use the catalog to compare South Africa packages, read review details, and request a quote based on your dates. A quote request is useful when lodge prices change by season or room type.
SafariFind also helps you compare operators rather than relying on one lodge page. That matters when your plan includes Johannesburg transfers, Madikwe nights, and a Cape Town extension. You can then ask each operator for the same trip details.
Book a Madikwe lodge by setting your dates, choosing your traveler type, and comparing the full package cost. Start with three nights, then add nights if the route and budget work. March and November are useful months to check because Madikwe.net identifies them as favorable periods with lower temperatures. [4]
March and November are listed as favorable months for cooler temperatures. [4] These months can suit travelers who dislike intense heat. However, lodge availability and rates still depend on the dates you choose.
Ask for both the season name and the exact travel dates in your quote. “High season” and “low season” can mean different things across operators. A dated quote gives you a clearer basis for comparison.
Three nights is a sensible starting point for a Madikwe stay. It gives you time for several drives without making the reserve the entire holiday. Madikwe Hills uses three-night blocks in its two-lodge offer. [7]
A longer stay may suit travelers using the Stay 7 Pay 5 offer. [7] Families should check whether children can join every drive. Couples may prefer a smaller camp with fewer rooms and a quieter daily pace.
Johannesburg is a common starting point for a wider route that includes Madikwe. Magical Africa lists a 14-day itinerary that combines Johannesburg, Madikwe, Phinda, the Cape Winelands, the Whale Coast, and Cape Town. [2]
Travelers who want a city finish can choose the Madikwe to Cape Luxury Escape. The package includes three nights at Madikwe Hills and four nights at Camissa House in Cape Town. [7]
You can also add a coastal section. SafariFind lists Durban, Kosi Bay, and Algoa Bay as South Africa travel options. These destinations suit travelers who want more than game drives.
Use the same questions for every lodge. This keeps the comparison fair and avoids missed costs.
Madikwe.net describes Madikwe as malaria-free. [4] That is helpful for trip planning, especially for families. Still, health advice depends on your personal situation, so speak with a qualified travel health provider before departure.
Safety also depends on following lodge rules. Stay inside marked areas after dark, follow your guide’s instructions, and keep children close to adults. Wildlife is wild, even when a lodge feels calm.
Travelers comparing regions can read SafariFind's guide to Hoedspruit safari packages in 2027 or review Kruger night drive packages. These options help you decide whether Madikwe fits your route and activity goals.
Pack light layers, closed shoes, sun protection, and a warm jacket for early drives. Morning game drives can feel cool, even when the afternoon becomes hot. A small day bag keeps binoculars, water, and personal items easy to reach.
Confirm the lodge address, transfer plan, check-in time, and emergency contact before you fly. Save the final itinerary offline. Then check whether your operator has included airport transfers or expects you to arrange them separately.
These steps make lodge comparisons easier. They also help you spot the difference between a room-only rate and a full safari package.

"We made our reservations with 50% down-payment way back in Feb-26, 4 months before our trip in June and balance 50% one month before departure from Singapore. We were not sure and worried a bit whether things would turn out as described and promised, as this is our first ever trip to South Africa. All our worries disappeared from the moment we were picked up upon arrival according to the itinerary, and subsequent daily trips were excellent in view of timing, routes, transports, accommodations, meals, and to the local guides and drivers assigned. Everything is above and beyond our expectations, and we sincerely thank Safari Tailors for providing us such a memorable trip of our life!"

"Communications with Mack via email were swift and comprehensible. We were picked up at the airport on arrival by our guide, Thomas, who would be with us for the whole week. We signed up for a budget camping safari, and we had a great time! The campsites were nicer than I thought they would be, and the Kiliholidays team did a great job of taking care of us the whole trip. Thomas was very accommodating, and our 'stomach engineer' did a fantastic job the whole trip. My partner and I were very impressed by the quality of the food. Thomas was an incredible driver; a few times we had to stop and help other drivers who were stuck! This was my second visit to East Africa, and I will definitely book with Kiliholidays for my third trip :) A few tips for other travelers: The sleeping mattress was a bit thin for me (my partner had no trouble!), but I found that sleeping on my back instead of my side helped. If you have sensitive hips, I'd recommend bringing something to use as a cushion, or possibly arranging for an extra mattress. The tent was high-quality and the sleeping bags were warm. We stayed in Mto wa Mbu a few nights and it was quite hot there. We brought sleeping sacks (very thin) and used those instead. Bring LOTS of insect repellent and use it often (biting flies in the daytime, mosquitoes at night). Same with hand sanitizer (public campsite toilets don't usually have soap). Granola bars are a good idea, too, if you like to snack between meals. There's not a lot of access to ice, so if you like an evening adult-beverage, just ask your guide to stop before you leave Arusha to pick up some wine. We picked up a 5-liter box of South African wine for about 25euros and it was very convenient (bring your own cups!)."

"This is the second time I have traveled with my family with GoExplore. The first time was an amazing Uganda experience (already reviewed) and this second experience with my husband to Kenya was equally amazing. Brian organized organized both tours for me and tailored them according to my wishes. As this is still the time of unsure flights and Covid difficulties, he was easily able to adapt to some changes with travel that were beyond our control. GoExplore is a boutique business that is very personalized and offers you the equal and more than a large corporate operator. The price point is compatible with group tours but you will have your own personal driver and guide for yourself and there is nothing to compare with this luxury. Because of that, you will also be able to adapt your days schedule if you wish according what you want and not what is a groups plan. We were completely happy and satisfied with all aspects of our travel (on both trips). Brian knows the safari tour industry and is constantly working to improve the business, his knowledge about lodges, the parks, restaurants and all minute aspects of the tour. He will be able to personally attest to the quality of whatever product he is recommending to you. Sammi was our driver in Kenya and we can only say that he was amazing. He knew more about wildlife (and every birds name and details) than an encyclopedia, was an amazingly adept driver in sometimes rough conditions (traffic, rough park roads, etc.) and looked out for our interests. While respecting the animals, he went above and beyond trying to make sure we saw every different animal we could. We appreciated that he obviously respected and cared about the animals we were seeing. (Not all safari drivers do and will do anything to try to get to see something up close, even while encroaching too much on their space.) We had a minor vehicle difficulty and Sammi made sure that everything went smoothly and we didn't miss a minute of our trip or schedule. He is quite an asset to GoExplore. Sammi only drives on Kenya trips but if you go to Uganda, I highly recommend Moses who was equally great. Overall, the trip was an unforgettable trip of a lifetime. If you haven't gone on a safari before, you should trip to put this on your life plan. There is nothing like it and when you plan it, you want a safari operator that will listen to your needs, wants, and budget and tailor it to fit you. GoExplore will do that in a personal way. Our lodges that Brian picked were magical and the food was outstanding. There was nothing about our trip that we would have changed. I highly recommend GoExplore if you want to travel to any of the countries they operate in. If not those countries, then reconsider them over the more commercialized ones (such as South Africa) and you won't be disappointed."

"We just finished a 2-week tour of South Africa with extension to Victoria Falls and the Monde Village Cultural Experience was one of the highlights of the entire trip. It is a must-do for anyone in the area. Tongesai (our guide) was very personable and worked with us to customize the experience. He was flexible and took time to explain many things that aren't part of the "regular tour". We had great conversations throughout the tour. He ended up dropping us off so late (8:30pm), his wife had to call him twice. He took a few pictures with us so he had alibi. :) Mr Ncube (our village host) and his family were welcoming and excited to show us their way of life. Mr Ncube's explanations of his culture, family structure, farming struggles, and discussions on many topics showed us a simple way of life, much different than our modern American ways, but it made so much sense. People here fight hard to live but they do it with a smile. They may be poor, but not in spirit. We asked many questions and received questions ourselves. It was as if I was visiting an uncle living in a rural part of a third-world country. This family made us felt at home. We wish we had more time to sit under the summer kitchen during a raining day, sharing food and chatting with these folks. We wish we could sit in the winter kitchen to hear him teach his children and grandchildren. Needless to say, we spent 4+ hrs at this experience and wanted more. I am now back to "civilization" in a nice Qatari hotel, but I kept thinking about my time in the simple Monde Village. What a breath of fresh air that was. I brought some extra clothes to give, but ended up giving as much as I could live without for the rest of my trip. A pair of sandals doesn't mean much to me, but it means a lot to people in these villages. This is 30+ hrs flight from home so it is a one-time chance to help; I had to make the best of it. If I can come back to this area, I will definitely bring more people to share in this amazing experience. I encourage all who come to Victoria Falls to add this cultural experience to their itinerary."
