Kenya's anti-poaching work combines Kenya Wildlife Service patrols, community conservancies, intelligence-led investigations and wildlife crime prosecutions. The approach has reduced some high-profile threats, but illegal grazing, bushmeat hunting, snares, trafficking and human-wildlife conflict remain serious problems.

Lake Mutirikwi covers 9,105 hectares near Masvingo, yet many visitors still overlook its beach-style shore. [1]
The best beaches in Zimbabwe for 2027 are lake beaches, led by Mutirikwi near Masvingo. Plan 2 to 3 nights, compare stays starting at US$42 per night, and confirm final 2027 rates before booking. Lake Kariba offers a larger houseboat trip, with 8-day packages starting at US$7,500 per person sharing. [1][4]
The best beaches in Zimbabwe are found beside inland lakes, not along an ocean coast. This gives the country a different kind of beach break. You can sit beside fresh water, add a safari, or spend several nights on a houseboat.
Lake Mutirikwi is the clearest beach-style choice for 2027. It sits near Masvingo and suits travelers who want a simple lake stay. Lake Kariba suits travelers who want a longer trip with fishing, wildlife viewing, and time on the water. [1][4]
Prices need careful checking. Published Lake Mutirikwi resort listings start at US$42 per night, but final 2027 rates require confirmation before booking. Lake Kariba is a much larger trip, with an 8-day houseboat package starting at US$7,500 per person sharing. [1][4]
This guide compares both choices. It also explains what people mean when they search for beaches in Zimbabwe, how long to stay, and how to compare lake packages on SafariFind.
Zimbabwe also works well as part of a wider safari holiday. You can pair lake time with Hwange, Matobo, Great Zimbabwe, or Chinhoyi Caves. For example, this guide to a 7-day Hwange safari itinerary for 2027 can help you plan a wildlife-led route before or after the lake.
Lake Mutirikwi is the best beach-style destination in Zimbabwe for 2027 because it offers clear water, shore access, and a resort area near Masvingo. The lake covers 9,105 hectares, and a 2 to 3-night stay gives most visitors enough time for a relaxed visit. [1]
Yes, Zimbabwe has inland beach-style destinations beside lakes, with Lake Mutirikwi as the leading choice. These beaches do not sit on an ocean coast. They offer lake water, open shore, and resort or camping settings instead. Lake Mutirikwi is the clearest choice for a short beach break in 2027. [1][2]
Mutirikwi Beach gives travelers a direct way to search for a lake stay near Lake Mutirikwi. The setting suits couples, families, and safari travelers who want two quiet nights after a busy road trip.
Zimbabwe does not have a standard national count of beaches in the information used for this guide. The country’s beach experiences are linked to inland lakes and shore areas, rather than a numbered ocean coastline. Confirm the exact sites and access rules with your chosen accommodation or tour operator before traveling.
Lake Mutirikwi is the strongest place to start because the available 2027 travel information identifies it as Zimbabwe’s clearest beach-style destination. Its size also gives visitors room for a lake day without needing a long houseboat itinerary. [1]
Lake Mutirikwi works best for travelers who want a simple two or three-night stop. You can spend the day beside the water, build in rest time, and then continue toward Masvingo or another Zimbabwe attraction. The shorter stay also keeps the trip easier to budget.
Travelers who want more walking and wildlife can build a wider route around the lake. A stay near Great Zimbabwe would be useful, but that page is not part of the available SafariFind destination list. Instead, compare the lake stop with a Great Zimbabwe tour package for 2027 when planning your wider trip.
Explore 2027 Zimbabwe lake packages and compare available stays on SafariFind before choosing your dates.
Lake Mutirikwi is the better choice for a short and lower-cost beach stay, while Lake Kariba is the better choice for a long houseboat safari. Mutirikwi starts at a published US$42 per night, whereas Kariba packages can start at US$7,500 per person sharing for 8 days. [1][4]
| Destination | Package style | Published price | Suggested use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lake Mutirikwi | Resort or lake stay | From US$42 per night | 2 to 3-night beach-style break |
| Lake Kariba | Houseboat safari | From US$7,500 per person sharing | 8-day fishing and wildlife trip |
Lake Mutirikwi gives you the simpler price comparison. Published resort listings start at US$42 per night, which equals US$84 for two nights or US$126 for three nights before any extra costs. Those figures are guide prices from current listings, not confirmed 2027 package totals. [1]
Lake Mutirikwi suits travelers who want control over the pace. You can choose a short stay, spend time near the water, and avoid committing to a full week on a boat. Ask each operator what the rate includes before you compare the final price.
Lake Kariba is the largest man-made lake in the world by volume. Its houseboat trips focus on time on the water, fishing, and wildlife viewing. An 8-day package can start at US$7,500 per person sharing, so this option needs a larger travel budget. [4]
Lake Kariba is a trip in its own right. It suits travelers who enjoy slow travel and want several days aboard a houseboat. It is less suited to visitors who only want a quick swim and one quiet afternoon by the shore.
Price alone does not show the full value of a Zimbabwe lake package. Check these points in writing:
Lake package prices can look close until you add transfers, meals, and activities. Keep the comparison simple. Start with the total number of nights, then check what each rate includes.
Compare Bumi Hills beach packages for 2027 if you prefer a Kariba-area stay with a clear booking focus. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, so you can read authentic reviews and request a quote before making a final choice.
Plan a Zimbabwe beach holiday by choosing the lake first, setting the length of the stay, and confirming the 2027 rate. Choose Lake Mutirikwi for a 2 to 3-night beach-style break. Choose Lake Kariba for an 8-day houseboat journey with fishing and wildlife viewing. [1][4]
Lake Mutirikwi is the practical starting point for most first-time lake visitors. Its location near Masvingo supports a short stay, and the available listings give travelers a clear starting price. It is a better fit for people who want shore time without a week-long boat booking. [1]
Lake Kariba needs more planning. The houseboat format changes the trip from a beach stop into a water-based safari. You should allow time for the full itinerary, then check the boat, meals, activities, and transfer plan.
A 2 to 3-night Lake Mutirikwi stay gives you time to arrive, enjoy the water, and leave without rushing. One night may feel too short after a long drive. More nights may suit travelers who want a slower resort stay, but confirm the room rate for the extra dates. [1]
An 8-day Lake Kariba package needs a different mindset. You are booking a full travel experience, not a quick stop. Fishing and wildlife viewing form part of the appeal, so ask what activities are planned each day. [4]
Zimbabwe is easier to understand when you combine lake time with another region. A traveler might add Hwange for wildlife, Matobo for walking, or Great Zimbabwe for history. SafariFind also lists articles about Matobo walking safari packages for 2027 and Zimbabwe safari lodges by park.
Chinhoyi Caves can also fit a wider route. The destination offers a change from lakes and open shore. Read the guide to 2027 Chinhoyi Caves packages and booking prices when you want to add an inland stop.
Zimbabwe is generally considered safe for travelers, but every trip needs current checks. [5] Confirm road conditions, lake access rules, weather, medical cover, and travel advice before departure. Keep copies of your booking details and ask your operator how emergency help works.
Pack light clothes, sun protection, swimwear, sturdy shoes, and a dry bag for time near the water. A small torch and spare charging option are useful on remote stays. Your operator can confirm the final packing list for a resort, campsite, or houseboat.
To travel comfortably in Zimbabwe, carry drinking water, protect yourself from strong sun, follow guide instructions, and plan transfers in advance. Lake trips often take you away from large towns, so keep essential medicine and travel documents with you.
This article cannot give a complete emergency plan for every region. Confirm local health advice, entry rules, transport details, and current safety guidance before you leave. A verified operator should explain what support is available during your stay.
The lake package information used here does not establish the answer to that geography question. Confirm the largest river in Zimbabwe through a current national geography reference or an official Zimbabwe tourism or government source before using it to plan a route.
The available lake package information does not provide a reliable national count of Zimbabwe’s rivers. River numbers can depend on how waterways are defined and counted. Use a current official geography source if this detail matters for your itinerary.
There is no fair Kenya-versus-Zimbabwe safety answer without your route, dates, transport, and current travel advice. Zimbabwe is generally considered safe for travelers, but you should check current official advisories and follow your operator’s local guidance. [5]
Book Lake Mutirikwi when you want a short, beach-style lake break with a lower starting price. Book Lake Kariba when you want an 8-day houseboat safari and have a budget starting near US$7,500 per person sharing. Confirm every 2027 rate before you pay. [1][4]
November 2026 is a useful time to start planning. Lake Mutirikwi rates already provide a starting point, while exact 2027 totals still need confirmation. Early planning also gives you time to compare room types, transfers, and package inclusions.
SafariFind lets you compare verified tour operators, review traveler feedback, and request quotes. Read the details closely. A lower room rate may not include transport, meals, or activities.
For a wider safari route, compare Zimbabwe packages that include Hwange, Matobo, or Great Zimbabwe. For a water-first trip, keep the plan simple. Choose the lake, confirm the nights, ask for the total cost, and then check the cancellation terms.

"In July we returned from a safari in Botswana. For my family of four (including two teenage boys) it was our first time to Africa. We had dreamt of the trip for a long time, and the camping safari with Moonstroll surpassed all expectations. Our Safari started in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, with a local tour provider who Moonstroll arranged for us. After our tour of the falls (wow!) we transferred to Botswana where our safari commenced. The next 5 days included multiple game drives, a boat tour on Chobe River and a mokoro tour in Okavango. The wildlife was abundant. We saw many elephants, giraffe and hippopotamuses. Highlights included seeing a leopard that had dragged an impala up a tree in Savuti, and front row seat on an interaction between lions and elephants (two lionesses were sizing up a young elephant for dinner) and driving through Moremi reserve with water holes full of hippopotamus and crocodile. Our Guide, Tracker and Driver was Thuso. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the animals and all the different birds. Thuso worked long days with us, as we were keen to savour every last minute of daylight on the game drives. We love camping in Australia, so thought a camping safari would be a great way to experience Africa. The Moonstroll team made sure we had fantastic camp sites arranged in the parks and reserves. A highlight was camping on the edge of a hippopotamus pool for two nights in Khwai and getting to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner by their waterhole. Camping was a great choice - hearing animals noises at night was also something else!! Another benefit was that we didn’t need to leave the park to drive back to a lodge. The evening we watched the leopard we stayed until almost dark as our campsite was only a few minute’s drive away. We had two tents to accommodate our family of four. Each tent had comfortable single camp stretchers and an annex addition for an outdoor ensuite bathroom. Kennedy and Howard did a great job setting up a comfortable campsite in each location. Our Safari chef, Midoh, created delicious meals each day and the highlight was a traditional meal she prepared for our family on the last night. On the days we travelled to a new campsite we had a picnic on the road and these generally included some meat, salad and pasta, campfire bread and fruit. Mr Monametsi from Moonstroll made all our arrangements and it was well executed by his team. We feel privileged to have had this experience, and would highly recommend both Moonstroll and Botswana to have an African Safari adventure."
"The booking process was relatively smooth and seamless. Mr. Monametsi responded to emails promptly and professionally, and the price was very reasonable. I quickly completed the reservation and payment for our family of ten. However, about two weeks before departure, I lost contact with Mr. Monametsi. My emails went unanswered. I later learned that Mr. Monametsi wasn't actually leading the tour group, but rather was managing and directing the group from his office. I couldn't figure out why he didn't respond to my crucial inquiries at this crucial time before our departure. Our group set off with trepidation, fearing they wouldn't honor their prior agreement. Fortunately, a few hours before arriving in Zimbabwe, we received an email from Mr. Monametsi's friend, providing the details and phone number of our airport pickup. We met our pickup person at the Zimbabwean airport without incident, and we thought we could finally join our scheduled Zimbabwe and Botswana trip. However, he was only responsible for picking us up at the hotel and had no idea about our five-day tour. We spent the first and second days in confusion, making numerous phone calls and wasting considerable time trying to find someone. The next day, our driver dropped us off at the Botswana border and handed us over to a Botswanan driver. He, completely clueless about the itinerary, simply dropped us off at our pre-booked hotel and disappeared. We had to rely on the help of the hotel's owner, using her WhatsApp account, to contact Mr. Monametsi and confirm our safari arrangements. The communication was so poor that we missed several planned activities and wasted significant time. Fortunately, on the morning of the third day, the safari driver arrived at our hotel, and we were finally able to begin our subsequent itinerary. Our trip had to be condensed and adjusted, with changes occurring daily. However, the team was very professional, especially Ben, our driver and guide, as well as the chef and logistics team. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Overall, the trip was truly fascinating. We saw lions, leopards, countless elephants, and various herbivores. The Okavango Delta was flooded this year, making many areas inaccessible and lacking in animal life. Savuti was particularly impressive with its abundance of lions. At the end of the trip, our driver, Ben, rescued a wounded elephant on the roadside, which was truly remarkable. Apart from some confusion in communication and arrangements, this company is still worthy of praise. It is very cost-effective, has a lot of service staff, and the service quality is also very good. The food is especially good. Overall it is worth recommending!"
"My group of 5 had an incredible time on the 7-day Victoria Falls to Okavango Delta safari. We were met at the airport in Victoria Falls and everything there was handled through our lodge, including a lovely guided tour of the falls (Zimbabwe side). Our Victoria Falls lodge also handled our transfer to Botswana, where another driver met us; everything went smoothly and was very easy for us. We then had a wonderful boat tour on the Chobe River, where we saw a group of elephants cross the river at sunset. After the boat tour we met our guide for the rest of the safari, Sox, who was amazing! Sox took us on our game drives and handled the rest of our transfers on the safari. The game drives were incredible. We saw so many amazing animals, including many that Sox sought out for us. Our three nights of camping were also amazing. Our chef, Enoch, cooked incredible meals for us (taking into account our dietary restrictions), and camp manager Gaetey and camp services Jonathan made sure everything was comfortable. There was even a toilet and shower set up behind each tent! I highly recommend Moonstroll!"
"We had an excellent experience in Zimbabwe and Botswana :) The journey was well organised and the staff was lovely! It’s been a memorable holiday - thank you Safari Tailors!"
