Botswana has no ocean beach, yet a 2027 safari and coast trip can still pair its inland wildlife with Mozambique’s Indian Ocean shore.
The best beaches in Botswana alternative is a two-country holiday: a Botswana safari followed by a Mozambique beach stay. In 2027, listed bush-and-beach packages cost $4,175 to $6,295 per person and last about 9 to 15 days. Plan the safari for May through September, then continue to the coast. [1]
The best beaches in Botswana do not exist as ocean beaches because Botswana is a landlocked country. The practical answer is a combined trip. You spend part of the holiday on safari, then fly or travel onward to a coastal country such as Mozambique. This plan gives you wildlife viewing and time beside the Indian Ocean.
Botswana is known for inland waterways, open salt pans, desert scenery, and large safari areas. Its key places include the Okavango, Chobe, Linyanti, and routes that connect with Victoria Falls. [4] A beach extension therefore changes the trip into a two-country holiday, rather than a Botswana beach vacation.
Quick answer: Botswana has no ocean beach destination. A 2027 safari and coast package usually combines Botswana wildlife with Mozambique’s beaches, costs $4,175 to $6,295 per person, and lasts 9 to 15 days. Visit Botswana from May through September, then schedule the beach stay after the safari. [1]
This guide explains the route, cost, timing, and planning steps. It also answers common questions such as, "Does Botswana have a beach?" and "Is Botswana worth visiting?" If you want verified choices, SafariFind connects travelers with tour operators, package details, and authentic traveler reviews.
The best Botswana safari and coast package combines a wildlife circuit in Botswana with a beach stay in Mozambique. The listed 2027 plan lasts about 9 to 15 days and costs $4,175 to $6,295 per person. This route works well when you want one trip with game drives, water-based safari time, and several quiet beach days. [1]
Botswana is known for safari areas rather than seaside resorts. The country’s proposed beach alternative uses a Botswana bush itinerary first, then adds Mozambique’s coast. That order makes sense. You can finish dusty game drives, rest beside the sea, and avoid trying to treat an inland river or salt pan as an ocean beach.
The Botswana safari catalog can help you compare the wildlife part of the trip. Popular route ideas include the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, the Chobe National Park, the Okavango region, and Linyanti. Each choice changes the feel of the trip, so check what the package includes before you compare prices.
A combined route can include road transfers, small aircraft flights, safari camps, park activities, and a beach hotel. The exact mix depends on the operator. Some trips focus on luxury lodges. Others use a wider route with several camps and more travel days. Ask for a day-by-day plan before paying a deposit.
Compare 2027 Botswana safari and beach routes with listed prices
The phrase "best beaches in Botswana" can lead to the wrong search result. Botswana offers rivers, lagoons, pans, and safari camps. It does not offer an ocean shoreline. A clear plan saves time and helps you compare a real coast package instead of searching for a beach that is not there.
Botswana does not have an ocean beach because it is landlocked. The recommended 2027 alternative is a Botswana safari followed by a beach stay in Mozambique, creating a two-country holiday. The listed combined packages cost $4,175 to $6,295 per person and last about 9 to 15 days. [1]
Botswana has water-based safari experiences, but these are not beach vacations. The Okavango region offers wetland scenery and boat-based activities in some itineraries. The Motloutse River gives travelers another inland water setting. These places suit wildlife and nature trips, not swimming beside an ocean.
The Gcwihaba Caves, Ghanzi, and Kalahari Desert offer very different scenery. The Tau Pan area adds a desert setting, while the Francistown and Kanye pages can help you understand other parts of the country. These destinations show why Botswana is worth visiting even without a coast.
Mozambique is the main beach alternative in the supplied 2027 plan. Zanzibar is another option in broader southern and eastern Africa travel plans. Nungwi and Kendwa on Zanzibar’s north coast are described as having calmer waters, sunsets, restaurants, bars, swimming, and water sports. [3] However, a Zanzibar add-on is a different route from the listed Mozambique plan.
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Botswana and Mozambique package | $4,175 to $6,295 | 9 to 15 days | Not supplied | Safari plus an ocean beach |
| Botswana and Zimbabwe trip | From $5,195 | 8 days | Not supplied | Safari and Victoria Falls route |
| Southern Africa family safari | From $9,630 | 14 days | Not supplied | Families seeking a longer regional trip |
The Intrepid Botswana and Zimbabwe trip is listed at 8 days from $5,195, with the lowest shown price for March 26, 2027. Its route does not provide an ocean beach. The listed Southern Africa family safari lasts 14 days from $9,630, with the lowest shown price for March 27, 2027. [8]
Request a quote from verified Botswana safari operators for your 2027 budget
Plan a Botswana safari and beach extension by fixing the season, route, budget, and transfer plan before you book. Start with the safari dates. Then choose the coast, check travel time, and request a full quote that lists flights, hotels, park fees, meals, transfers, and activities.
The recommended Botswana wildlife period is May through September, followed by a Mozambique beach stay. [1] This simple order gives the trip a clear shape. Ask the operator which areas fit your chosen month, because a route through the Okavango will differ from one through Chobe or Linyanti.
A 9-day plan gives you less time at each stop. A 15-day plan allows a longer safari or more beach nights. The supplied 2027 bush-and-beach package range covers both shorter and longer formats. [1] I would choose the longer end if you dislike rushed transfers. A beach extension should feel like a break, not another race.
Use $4,175 to $6,295 per person as the current listed guide for 2027. [1] The final quote can depend on the lodge level, internal flights, room type, safari length, and coast hotel. Ask the operator to separate included costs from excluded costs. That one page can prevent a surprise bill.
Review the transfer plan before choosing a package. A route that looks short on a map can still include several flights and road transfers. Check whether the operator handles every connection. Confirm the arrival airport, final hotel, and return flight plan in writing.
The Maun safari package guide is useful when Maun forms part of your Botswana route. You can also compare lodge choices in the 2027 Botswana safari lodge guide. Read authentic reviews before you select an operator. A low price matters less if the plan hides transfer costs.
Choose an operator that explains the route in plain language. Ask who meets you at each airport. Keep one copy of the itinerary on your phone and one offline. Pack light if your safari includes small aircraft. Then leave a little free time at the coast. Beach days work best when every hour is not booked.
The Khwai walking safari guide can help if you want a more active Botswana experience. For a Chobe-focused plan, review the Chobe safari booking guide. These options can help you build the bush section before adding the coast.
Botswana is worth visiting for travelers who want a wildlife-first holiday, even without an ocean beach. The country offers safari routes linked with the Okavango, Chobe, Linyanti, and Victoria Falls. Adding Mozambique then gives you the sea time that Botswana itself cannot provide. [4]
Botswana is especially suitable for people who enjoy open landscapes, guided game viewing, and quiet camp stays. It also suits travelers who prefer a planned route over a self-drive beach trip. The best choice depends on your priorities. Choose Botswana for wildlife. Choose Mozambique for the shore. Choose both when you want the two experiences in one holiday.
Botswana is not objectively the best country in Africa for every traveler. It is a strong choice for a safari-centered trip, while another country may suit beach time, city visits, or a lower budget. Compare the activity, season, route, and total price instead of ranking every country with one label.
Botswana is a beautiful country for travelers who value desert, wetland, salt pan, and wildlife scenery. Its appeal is not an ocean view. The contrast between dry Kalahari settings and water-rich safari areas gives the country a clear visual character. Your guide and route will shape what you see each day.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and safari packages. You can compare route details, request quotes, and read authentic reviews before booking. The marketplace can also help you decide whether to focus on Chobe, the Okavango, a desert route, or a safari followed by a Mozambique coast stay.

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."

"We went on a 3 day safari, and even though Tongesai did not lead it himself, I want to highly recommend his services. Our group consisted of just my family; my wife, children (9, 13, 14), and me. Tongesai acted as the agent, coordinating with the organization in Botswana that ran the actual tour. He met us several days in advance, and had informed us of some critical information (like make sure to bring birth certificates for the kids) well in advance. On the first day of the Safari, he came to pick us up, and drove us to the border, where he coordinated a smooth hand over to the Botswana organization. The guide from our safari was so good! ‘Cobra’ grew up in the bush, and if shows. He was frequently coordinating with, and showing other tour guides where to find the best big game sightings. We saw so many animals, including lions, hippos, tons of elephants and giraffes, and too many other animals to name. The meals were also great! Cobra and Tongesai had contracted with ‘chef K’ for catered breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp. All meals were great. And the camp itself was organized above my expectations. Very nice tents, raised cots, plenty warm, tables, chairs and napkins at every meal! All in all, the experience was pretty unforgettable. It’s not a cheap experience, but based on our trip I can highly recommend Tongesai’s services!"
