International visitors can self-drive in Tanzania, but licence rules depend on your passport and length of stay. Vehicles must carry third-party liability insurance, and travellers should carry their domestic licence, an International Driving Permit where required, insurance papers and vehicle documents.

Akagera Walking Safari Packages 2027: Prices and Booking are best planned around a clear budget and a confirmed walking route. International park stays are listed at USD 100 for one night, USD 150 for two nights, and about USD 200 for three nights or more. Tour listings show departures in every month of 2027, but a dedicated walking-safari price still needs confirmation before you book. [3][7]
Akagera walking safari packages in 2027 stand out because a park stay can cost as little as USD 100 per person, while luxury days can exceed USD 2,500. [3][6]
Akagera National Park is in eastern Rwanda. It offers a different trip from the mountain gorilla experience around Volcanoes National Park. Here, travelers compare short game-drive trips, boat outings, lodge stays, and guided walks.
This guide explains what current 2027 research supports. It also separates a true walking safari from a standard safari that uses early and late game drives. That difference matters. A package may use the word "walking" in its title, yet the listed plan may focus on vehicle drives instead. [2]
The main goal is simple. You should know the likely park fees, the wider package costs, the usual inclusions, and the questions to ask before sending a deposit.
Quick answer: A dedicated Akagera walking safari has no confirmed 2027 public price in the available listings. Use USD 100 to USD 200 as a guide for international park stays, then add transport, lodging, meals, guiding, and activities. Two-day packages often include two game drives and a Lake Ihema boat cruise. [3][5]
Akagera walking safari packages in 2027 are guided trips that may combine time on foot with park access, lodging, transport, and other activities. The available research confirms general Akagera safari costs, but it does not confirm one fixed price for a dedicated walking itinerary. Confirm the walking route, guide, group size, and safety plan before booking. [2][3][7]
Compare 2027 Akagera safari prices and two-day trip options before choosing a walking-focused package.
Akagera packages differ in what they include. A short itinerary may cover an airport pickup, two full game drives, a Lake Ihema boat cruise, one night of accommodation, all meals, and a professional driver-guide. [5] Those inclusions describe a standard short safari. They do not prove that the trip includes a walking activity.
A walking safari needs clearer details. Look for the walking distance, start time, meeting point, guide credentials, group size, and whether a vehicle follows the group. Ask whether the walk takes place inside Akagera National Park or near the park boundary. These details change both the experience and the price.
Akagera accommodation names linked with safari stays include Akagera Game Lodge, Magashi Safari Camp, Ruzizi Tented Camp, and Karenge Bush Camp. [1] A lodge-based trip may suit travelers who want comfort after a day outdoors. A tented camp may appeal to travelers who want a closer camp setting.
Akagera is often sold through broad safari packages. A two-day plan may include an early-morning drive and a late-afternoon drive, yet the available listing does not verify these activities as walking safaris. [2] Therefore, you should not treat every "Akagera safari" as a walking trip.
Walking changes the pace of a safari. You notice tracks, plants, sounds, and small signs that are easy to miss from a vehicle. You also need a guide who explains the rules before the walk starts. A responsible operator should state where guests walk and how the team manages wildlife encounters.
Akagera walking safari packages are best for active travelers, photographers who enjoy slow viewing, and visitors who want more time outside a vehicle. They also suit people adding Akagera to a wider Rwanda plan that includes Kigali, gorilla trekking, or a lake stay.
Travelers who want a short wildlife break can compare this option with the five-day Rwanda safari itinerary for 2027. That longer plan may give you more time to balance park drives with other Rwanda stops.
Akagera walking safari prices in 2027 do not have one verified fixed rate. International park stays are listed at USD 100 per person for one night, USD 150 for two nights, and about USD 200 for three nights or more. A complete package costs more after you add transport, accommodation, meals, activities, and guiding. [3]
| Trip element | Published price or detail | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| One-night international park stay | USD 100 per person | A basic reference point for park access and stay length |
| Two-night international park stay | USD 150 per person | A longer park stay reference point |
| Three nights or more | About USD 200 per person | A multi-night park stay reference point |
| Luxury safari | USD 800 to USD 2,500 or more per person per day | A premium daily budget for high-end travel |
These figures are not the same as a full walking-safari quote. The park-stay prices help set a base budget. The luxury range shows how high a complete premium safari can rise. [3][6]
A typical two-day Akagera package may include airport pickup, two full game drives, a Lake Ihema boat cruise, one night of accommodation, all meals, and a professional driver-guide. [5] That structure works well for visitors with limited time. It also gives you a useful checklist when comparing offers.
Compare Akagera lodges and 2027 budget levels before you choose a camp or lodge. Accommodation can shape the total more than the park-stay fee alone.
One TourRadar listing shows departures in every month from January through December 2027. [7] The same listing states that travelers can pay 20 percent at booking, with the balance due 60 days before departure. [7] Treat those terms as listing-specific. Your operator may use different payment rules.
Request the full payment schedule in writing. Check the cancellation terms, change fees, travel insurance rules, and currency used for payment. A low deposit does not always mean a low final cost.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. Use the marketplace to compare Akagera packages by price and trip length before requesting a quote.
Start by confirming that the itinerary includes a real guided walk. Then compare the total price, accommodation, transport, park fees, activities, and payment terms. A 2027 booking is stronger when the operator names each service instead of using a broad phrase such as "wildlife adventure."
Decide whether you want a walking-only trip, a walking and game-drive mix, or a standard two-day safari with a possible walk. This choice affects your questions and your budget. It also prevents a common mistake: booking a vehicle safari when you expected hours on foot.
Write down your preferred duration. One night keeps the trip short. Two nights gives you more time in the park. Three nights or more may suit travelers who want a slower plan and a wider range of activities. The listed international stay figures rise from USD 100 to about USD 200 across these time periods. [3]
Ask for the guide's role, walking route, group size, and safety process. Confirm how the operator handles weather, medical needs, and changes to the route. A good quote should also state the pickup point and the expected return time.
Review the accommodation name. Akagera Game Lodge, Magashi Safari Camp, Ruzizi Tented Camp, and Karenge Bush Camp are named accommodation options associated with Akagera stays. [1] Ask which one applies to your package. Do not assume that every price includes a premium camp.
Kigali is the main starting point for many Rwanda trips. If your package includes airport pickup, check the arrival window and the drive plan. A late arrival may change the first activity. A morning arrival may allow more time for the park.
Travelers building a wider Rwanda trip can compare a gorilla-focused plan near Volcanoes National Park with an Akagera wildlife stay. The 2027 Kinigi gorilla trek cost guide can help you separate gorilla permit planning from Akagera budgeting.
Wear closed shoes with good grip. Choose light clothing that covers your arms and legs. Carry water, sun protection, a small first-aid kit, and a phone or camera with spare power. Follow the guide's instructions at all times.
Do not plan the walk around a promise of close animal viewing. The purpose is to move safely through the park and read the surroundings. Keep your voice low. Stay with the group. Never leave the marked route without the guide's approval.
Useful image alt text should describe the subject and place. Examples include "guided walking safari group in Akagera National Park" and "Lake Ihema boat cruise during a Rwanda safari." Clear alt text helps screen-reader users understand the page and gives search engines useful context.
Before you pay, save the final itinerary, receipt, operator contact, and emergency number. Read authentic reviews from previous travelers when available. Then request a quote that states the walking activity in plain language.
The available 2027 tour listing shows departures in every month from January through December. [7] That means travelers can start planning across the full year. The listing alone does not establish one best month for a walking safari, so choose dates around your own schedule and confirm conditions with the operator.
Book early if you want a named lodge, a private vehicle, or a specific guide. Early planning also gives you time to compare payment rules. A listing that asks for 20 percent at booking and the balance 60 days before departure should be treated as a deadline, not a suggestion. [7]
Keep your plan flexible if walking is your main goal. Ask whether the operator can move the walk to another day if conditions change. Also ask what happens if the walking activity cannot run. The written answer matters more than a sales phrase.
A short Akagera package often focuses on game drives and a boat cruise. One researched two-day plan includes two full game drives, one Lake Ihema boat cruise, one night of lodging, meals, airport pickup, and a professional driver-guide. [5] These features can make a short visit feel complete.
Walking adds a slower outdoor element. It does not replace every game drive. Many travelers get the best balance by combining one guided walk with vehicle viewing and a boat activity. Confirm that your operator offers this mix before booking.
Travelers who want a longer water and wildlife plan can also read about Lake Kivu boat tour packages for 2027. Lake Kivu is a different setting from Lake Ihema, so keep the two activities separate when comparing itineraries.
This process takes a little time. It can prevent a large surprise later, especially when a package title promises walking but the daily plan lists only vehicle drives.
A dedicated Akagera walking safari has no confirmed public 2027 price in the available listings. International park stays are listed at USD 100 for one night, USD 150 for two nights, and about USD 200 for three nights or more. Add lodging, transport, meals, guiding, and activities to estimate the full trip. [3]
Do two-day Akagera safaris include walking?Two-day Akagera itineraries commonly describe early-morning and late-afternoon game drives, but the available research does not verify those drives as walking safaris. Ask the operator to name the walking route, distance, guide, and safety plan before booking. [2]
What does a two-day Akagera safari package include?A typical two-day Akagera package may include airport pickup, two full game drives, a Lake Ihema boat cruise, one night of accommodation, all meals, and a professional driver-guide. Confirm each inclusion because package contents can differ between operators. [5]
Are Akagera safari departures available throughout 2027?One TourRadar listing displays departure months from January through December 2027. Availability for a dedicated walking safari still needs confirmation with the operator. Ask for your exact date, walking activity, and final price before paying. [7]
What are the luxury Akagera safari prices?Luxury Akagera safaris are reported at USD 800 to USD 2,500 or more per person per day. Ultra-luxury trips can cost even more. The final price depends on the camp, transport, activities, guide service, and length of stay. [6]
How can I book a verified Akagera walking safari?Use SafariFind to compare verified tour operators, review available packages, read authentic traveler reviews, and request a quote. Ask each operator to confirm the walking activity, total 2027 price, accommodation, payment schedule, and cancellation terms before booking.
Akagera walking safari packages in 2027 need careful checking because public listings do not confirm one dedicated walking-safari price. Use USD 100 to USD 200 as a park-stay reference for one to three nights, and remember that luxury packages can reach USD 800 to USD 2,500 or more per person per day. [3][6]
A two-day trip is a practical starting point. It may include airport pickup, two game drives, a Lake Ihema boat cruise, one night, meals, and a driver-guide. [5] However, request written proof that the itinerary includes a guided walk.
Plan early for 2027. One listing shows departures in every month and uses a 20 percent deposit, with the balance due 60 days before departure. [7] Compare the total price, lodge, guide service, and payment terms before you decide.
Compare verified Akagera safari packages and lodge prices for 2027 through SafariFind, then request a quote from a verified operator. In 2027, the best booking is the one that states every cost and every walking detail clearly.
These recommendations use real data from SafariFind, where you can compare operators, browse packages, and read verified traveler reviews before you book.

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"

"I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big cats in Queen Elizabeth, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the rare Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp. The itinerary was well thought out, and everything ran smoothly. I flew into Kigali, Rwanda, which I highly recommend if you're heading to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi — much closer and more convenient than Entebbe. If photography is your priority, I also suggest booking two gorilla treks or considering Mgahinga. I only did one, and while it was incredible to see them, capturing strong images was difficult. The rainforest is thick, lighting tricky, and your movement limited — just something to keep in mind. Mozes, my guide, was outstanding. He’s punctual, safe, knowledgeable, and has a clear love for wildlife. He studied tourism, understands photography, and even shared stories from past conservation work, like relocating giraffes from Murchison Falls to Kidepo. He always positioned the car for the best angles and made the drives smooth and productive. Our first stop was Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, just five minutes from Rushaga Gate. The lodge was cozy, well-designed, and mosquito-free, with great coffee and local food — an ideal base for gorilla trekking. In Queen Elizabeth, we had four full days of game drives. I like to go hard on photography, so we were out from sunrise to sunset. One major perk with GoExplore is you can plan your own drive schedule within park hours (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). On our first day, we stayed until closing — the only car left in Kasenyi Plains. That kind of flexibility made a huge difference. I also recommend the optional lion and leopard tracking. You’re still in your private vehicle, but a tracker joins you and leads off-road directly to the cats. We spent nearly four hours with a leopard and her cubs in a cactus tree — truly a dream scenario for any photographer. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale was another highlight. The chimps came down from the trees and moved through the forest, and we followed them. The one-hour viewing stretched to 2.5 hours. For photography, it’s better to wait until they’re on the ground — the real action happens there. On the final day, we went to Mabamba Swamp to see the Shoebill. From a photography standpoint, it’s the best place in Africa to photograph this rare bird. The canoe brings you to water level, with clean backgrounds and soft light — a perfect setup. Uganda in late May was lush, green, and surprisingly dry — just one short rainstorm. The scenery, wildlife, and people made it a beautiful place to explore. If you’re considering Uganda, book with GoExplore — and if you can, request Mozes. His experience and attention to detail made the entire trip not just productive, but truly enjoyable. Huge thanks to Brian and Mozes for making it all happen!"
