A 7-Day Kruger Safari Itinerary: 2027 Costs and Packages can cost about $120 per person per day for a self-drive trip, $1,411 for a group tour, or $2,530 to $4,020 for a detailed guided itinerary. July is a confirmed 2027 departure example. Compare verified SafariFind packages, read traveler reviews, and request quotes before booking.
Kruger National Park has 12 main rest camps, five bushveld camps, two bush lodges, and four satellite camps. [1] That choice makes a seven-day safari easier to shape around your budget, travel style, and wildlife goals.
The 7-Day Kruger Safari Itinerary: 2027 Costs and Packages guide explains what a week in the park can look like. It covers self-drive trips, shared tours, private rooms, airport transfers, and lodge-based safaris. You will also see real 2027 prices from several published tour options.
The quick answer is simple. Budget about $840 for seven days of self-driving before adding hotels, fuel, food, and park fees. Guided trips cost more. African Sky lists a seven-day route at $2,530 to $4,020 per person sharing, while GEEO lists a July 2027 private-room supplement of $499. [2][7]
Kruger National Park is a good fit if you want many safari styles in one destination. You can drive yourself, join a small group, or stay in a private reserve. Each choice changes the price and daily pace.
A 7-day Kruger safari itinerary gives you six nights and several full wildlife days in or near Kruger National Park. The route can stay in one region or move north, central, and south. African Sky uses two nights in each of those three park zones. [7]
Kruger National Park was established in 1898 to protect wildlife in South Africa's Lowveld. [1] The park now supports different travel plans, from basic camping to high-end lodge stays. That range is the main reason a week works well for both first-time and repeat visitors.
A typical 2027 plan includes arrival near Johannesburg, transfer toward Kruger, morning and afternoon game drives, and a final departure day. Some tours add cultural visits or nearby reserves. Others keep every day focused on wildlife.
GEEO's July 12, 2027 safari includes wildlife safaris, nature walks, a traditional South Africa braai, and a visit to the Jane Goodall Institute's Chimp Eden. [2] This suits travelers who want more than vehicle-based game viewing.
Known for: Kruger is known for flexible camp choices, long game drives, and access from Johannesburg. Its large network of camps lets operators create different routes without leaving the wider park area.
Best for: A seven-day Kruger trip is best for travelers who want time to settle into the bush. It also suits people who prefer a slower pace than a short two-day safari.
Price range: Published 2027 examples run from $1,411 for a Contiki tour to $2,530 to $4,020 for African Sky's seven-day in-depth route. [3][7] Self-driving can cost about $120 per person per day before extra trip costs. [5]
Why it matters: Seven days give you more chances to see animals at different times. Early drives often target cool morning hours. Afternoon drives bring a different pace and light. A longer stay also leaves room for weather changes or a quiet day.

| Route style | Published detail | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Self-drive Kruger | About $120 per person per day | Independent travelers watching costs |
| Contiki group tour | From $1,411 per person | Travelers who want a planned group trip |
| African Sky in-depth route | $2,530 to $4,020 per person sharing | Travelers seeking northern, central, and southern Kruger |
| GEEO July safari | $499 private or single-room supplement | Travelers who want a private room option |
A seven-day Kruger safari costs about $840 for seven days of self-driving at the reported $120 daily rate, before other expenses. Guided packages cost more. Published examples include $1,411 for Contiki and $2,530 to $4,020 for African Sky, while luxury lodge rates can reach $1,100 to $3,700 per day. [3][5][7]
Self-driving is the lowest published daily option at about $120 per person per day. [5] A seven-day estimate therefore starts near $840 per person. That figure is a planning base, not a complete trip total.
You still need to plan for accommodation, meals, fuel, park charges, vehicle hire, and airport transport. Your final cost also depends on whether you share a car or travel alone. A self-drive trip gives you control, but you must manage the route and timing yourself.
Contiki lists a seven-day Kruger and Eswatini safari from $1,411 per person. [3] This type of package can suit travelers who want a set route and group transport. It may also add visits beyond Kruger, so check the day-by-day plan before comparing it with a park-only itinerary.
GEEO lists a $499 private or single-room supplement for its July 12, 2027 Kruger safari. [2] The price matters because shared rooms often form the base package rate. Ask what room type the advertised price includes before you compare two tours.
African Sky lists its seven-day in-depth Kruger route at $2,530 to $4,020 per person sharing. [7] The itinerary spends two nights in northern Kruger, two nights in central Kruger, and two nights in southern Kruger.
Fly-in packages can cost more because they combine air transfers, lodge stays, and guided drives. Kruger Park Travel lists a five-day Greenfire Lodge fly-in safari from Cape Town in Balule Game Reserve from ZAR 38,370. [4] That is not a seven-day price, but it shows how a shorter fly-in trip can still carry a higher total cost.
Luxury South Africa safari rates range from $1,100 to $3,700 per day. [5] Private reserves, premium rooms, specialist guides, and included transfers can push the price toward the upper end.

The best practical plan matches your travel style to one clear route. Choose self-drive for control, a group tour for ease, or a guided lodge route for expert support. A seven-day trip works best when you avoid changing camps every night and leave time for morning and afternoon drives.
Start with Johannesburg if your package includes airport transfers or a pre-trip hotel. GEEO uses Hotel Sky Sandton, with rates of $95 per night for a single room and $100 for a twin or double room. [2]
Use the first day for arrival, luggage, and a short briefing. A rushed first drive can make the trip tiring. The second day can begin with the transfer toward Kruger or a first nearby game activity.
Spend the middle of the trip on morning and afternoon drives. Two full days give you time to learn the guide's rhythm and watch animal behavior without rushing between regions.
Nature walks can add a closer look at tracks, plants, and smaller animals. GEEO includes nature walks and wildlife safaris, along with a traditional braai. [2] These activities create a useful break from long vehicle drives.
African Sky's seven-day itinerary divides the park into northern, central, and southern stays. Each zone receives two nights. [7] This plan suits travelers who want to sample more of Kruger's large geographic range.
Moving camps can bring variety, but it also takes time. Ask how many hours each transfer takes. A cheaper package may look attractive until long road days reduce your time on safari.
Use the final morning for one last drive if your flight time allows. Keep a safe buffer for road travel and airport check-in. A transfer package can simplify this step, especially for first-time visitors.
SafariFind helps you compare tour operators and read reviews from previous travelers. Use the details to check what the package includes before you request a quote.
Kruger offers 12 main rest camps, five bushveld camps, two bush lodges, and four satellite camps. [1] The right base depends on your route. A central camp can reduce long drives, while a multi-zone itinerary gives broader coverage.
You can also compare a Kruger stay with nearby South Africa safari options. South Africa safari lodge rates for 2027 can help you judge whether a private reserve fits your plan.
A 7-day Kruger safari costs about $840 for self-driving at the reported $120 daily rate, before other trip costs. Published guided options include $1,411 for Contiki and $2,530 to $4,020 for African Sky. Luxury lodge rates can reach $1,100 to $3,700 per day. [3][5][7]
The best itinerary depends on your travel style. African Sky uses two nights in northern Kruger, two nights in central Kruger, and two nights in southern Kruger. This route gives travelers more time across the park instead of staying in one area. [7]
July is a confirmed 2027 departure month for GEEO, which lists a safari beginning July 12, 2027. Use the published departure as a planning reference, then check the exact route, room type, and activities before you book. [2]
GEEO lists a $499 private or single-room supplement for its July 12, 2027 Kruger safari. GEEO also lists Hotel Sky Sandton at $95 per night for single occupancy and $100 for twin or double occupancy. [2]
GEEO lists Johannesburg airport transfers at $80 per person for solo travelers and $30 per person for groups of four or more. The lower group rate makes shared travel worth checking when you compare 2027 safari packages.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. Compare safari packages, check prices and inclusions, then request a quote from an operator that matches your dates and budget.
A 7-day Kruger safari in 2027 can suit both careful budget planners and luxury travelers. Self-driving starts at about $120 per person per day, while guided examples range from $1,411 to $4,020 per person. [3][5][7] The biggest price choices are room type, transport, lodge level, and route.
Choose self-drive if you want control and can manage the trip details. Choose a group tour if you prefer a fixed plan. Choose African Sky's northern, central, and southern route if you want a broader Kruger experience over six nights.
Before you commit, compare what each package includes. Check transfers, hotel nights, meals, activities, room supplements, and time inside the park. Request a quote from verified Kruger safari operators and read authentic reviews before you pay a deposit.

"We made our reservations with 50% down-payment way back in Feb-26, 4 months before our trip in June and balance 50% one month before departure from Singapore. We were not sure and worried a bit whether things would turn out as described and promised, as this is our first ever trip to South Africa. All our worries disappeared from the moment we were picked up upon arrival according to the itinerary, and subsequent daily trips were excellent in view of timing, routes, transports, accommodations, meals, and to the local guides and drivers assigned. Everything is above and beyond our expectations, and we sincerely thank Safari Tailors for providing us such a memorable trip of our life!"
"Communications with Mack via email were swift and comprehensible. We were picked up at the airport on arrival by our guide, Thomas, who would be with us for the whole week. We signed up for a budget camping safari, and we had a great time! The campsites were nicer than I thought they would be, and the Kiliholidays team did a great job of taking care of us the whole trip. Thomas was very accommodating, and our 'stomach engineer' did a fantastic job the whole trip. My partner and I were very impressed by the quality of the food. Thomas was an incredible driver; a few times we had to stop and help other drivers who were stuck! This was my second visit to East Africa, and I will definitely book with Kiliholidays for my third trip :) A few tips for other travelers: The sleeping mattress was a bit thin for me (my partner had no trouble!), but I found that sleeping on my back instead of my side helped. If you have sensitive hips, I'd recommend bringing something to use as a cushion, or possibly arranging for an extra mattress. The tent was high-quality and the sleeping bags were warm. We stayed in Mto wa Mbu a few nights and it was quite hot there. We brought sleeping sacks (very thin) and used those instead. Bring LOTS of insect repellent and use it often (biting flies in the daytime, mosquitoes at night). Same with hand sanitizer (public campsite toilets don't usually have soap). Granola bars are a good idea, too, if you like to snack between meals. There's not a lot of access to ice, so if you like an evening adult-beverage, just ask your guide to stop before you leave Arusha to pick up some wine. We picked up a 5-liter box of South African wine for about 25euros and it was very convenient (bring your own cups!)."
"This is the second time I have traveled with my family with GoExplore. The first time was an amazing Uganda experience (already reviewed) and this second experience with my husband to Kenya was equally amazing. Brian organized organized both tours for me and tailored them according to my wishes. As this is still the time of unsure flights and Covid difficulties, he was easily able to adapt to some changes with travel that were beyond our control. GoExplore is a boutique business that is very personalized and offers you the equal and more than a large corporate operator. The price point is compatible with group tours but you will have your own personal driver and guide for yourself and there is nothing to compare with this luxury. Because of that, you will also be able to adapt your days schedule if you wish according what you want and not what is a groups plan. We were completely happy and satisfied with all aspects of our travel (on both trips). Brian knows the safari tour industry and is constantly working to improve the business, his knowledge about lodges, the parks, restaurants and all minute aspects of the tour. He will be able to personally attest to the quality of whatever product he is recommending to you. Sammi was our driver in Kenya and we can only say that he was amazing. He knew more about wildlife (and every birds name and details) than an encyclopedia, was an amazingly adept driver in sometimes rough conditions (traffic, rough park roads, etc.) and looked out for our interests. While respecting the animals, he went above and beyond trying to make sure we saw every different animal we could. We appreciated that he obviously respected and cared about the animals we were seeing. (Not all safari drivers do and will do anything to try to get to see something up close, even while encroaching too much on their space.) We had a minor vehicle difficulty and Sammi made sure that everything went smoothly and we didn't miss a minute of our trip or schedule. He is quite an asset to GoExplore. Sammi only drives on Kenya trips but if you go to Uganda, I highly recommend Moses who was equally great. Overall, the trip was an unforgettable trip of a lifetime. If you haven't gone on a safari before, you should trip to put this on your life plan. There is nothing like it and when you plan it, you want a safari operator that will listen to your needs, wants, and budget and tailor it to fit you. GoExplore will do that in a personal way. Our lodges that Brian picked were magical and the food was outstanding. There was nothing about our trip that we would have changed. I highly recommend GoExplore if you want to travel to any of the countries they operate in. If not those countries, then reconsider them over the more commercialized ones (such as South Africa) and you won't be disappointed."
"We just finished a 2-week tour of South Africa with extension to Victoria Falls and the Monde Village Cultural Experience was one of the highlights of the entire trip. It is a must-do for anyone in the area. Tongesai (our guide) was very personable and worked with us to customize the experience. He was flexible and took time to explain many things that aren't part of the "regular tour". We had great conversations throughout the tour. He ended up dropping us off so late (8:30pm), his wife had to call him twice. He took a few pictures with us so he had alibi. :) Mr Ncube (our village host) and his family were welcoming and excited to show us their way of life. Mr Ncube's explanations of his culture, family structure, farming struggles, and discussions on many topics showed us a simple way of life, much different than our modern American ways, but it made so much sense. People here fight hard to live but they do it with a smile. They may be poor, but not in spirit. We asked many questions and received questions ourselves. It was as if I was visiting an uncle living in a rural part of a third-world country. This family made us felt at home. We wish we had more time to sit under the summer kitchen during a raining day, sharing food and chatting with these folks. We wish we could sit in the winter kitchen to hear him teach his children and grandchildren. Needless to say, we spent 4+ hrs at this experience and wanted more. I am now back to "civilization" in a nice Qatari hotel, but I kept thinking about my time in the simple Monde Village. What a breath of fresh air that was. I brought some extra clothes to give, but ended up giving as much as I could live without for the rest of my trip. A pair of sandals doesn't mean much to me, but it means a lot to people in these villages. This is 30+ hrs flight from home so it is a one-time chance to help; I had to make the best of it. If I can come back to this area, I will definitely bring more people to share in this amazing experience. I encourage all who come to Victoria Falls to add this cultural experience to their itinerary."
"Cultural Vibes Travel and Tours has proved to be excellent yet again as this is now the third time, we have used them and a much-needed break after almost 3 years with the Covid pandemic. Tongesai is extremely reliable, professional, knowledgeable and does everything to make your trip a memorable experience. Compared to local larger companies, Tongesai’s individual package rates are more reasonable and come with a customized touch. We felt that our holiday with Tongesai was much better and suited us more so than if we had booked through a larger company. His individual tailoring, personal involvement and attention to detail pays off in the smooth running of your trip. Our visits to the Victoria Falls, both sides from Zimbabwe and Zambia were magnificent and never cease to amaze us. On this trip Tongesai arranged for a private sunset cruise on the Zambezi just for our family of four instead of on the larger vessels, which was a very pleasant alternative. The boat trip in Chobe is magical and a must if you venture into Botswana. Wildlife was in abundance, including lion, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, puku, kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, gemsbok, steenbok, sable and roan antelope, etc. We even saw a relative of Cecil, the famous black-maned lion, ‘once a true king of Hwange National Park’. I have no hesitation in recommending the company for arranging tours in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana - we will definitely be seeing him again. He is currently setting up arrangements with colleagues in Kruger National Park to venture into South Africa and I wish him every success with that."
