A 10-day South Africa safari can cost about $1,600 per person on a budget, while tailored plans often reach $6,500 to $8,000. Luxury fly-in trips can cost $13,000 to $30,000 or more. The right route usually combines Kruger National Park with one coastal or wildlife region.
A 10-Day South Africa Safari Itinerary: 2027 Cost Guide starts at about $1,600 per person for a budget trip. Tailored and luxury plans cost about $6,500 to $8,000, while high-end fly-in trips can cost $13,000 to $30,000 or more. A 10-day route works best for visiting two or three regions, with Kruger National Park as a strong wildlife base. [1]
Hook: A 10-day South Africa safari can cost less than many luxury African trips, yet still combine major wildlife areas and guided game drives.
A 10-day South Africa safari itinerary is a planned journey that uses ten days to explore one country, often with two or three wildlife regions. In 2027, the main cost bands are about $1,600 per person for a budget trip and $6,500 to $8,000 for tailored or luxury travel. [1]
South Africa is a useful first safari destination because one trip can include national parks, private reserves, cities, beaches, and cultural stops. Your final price depends on the camp or lodge, transport, park fees, meal plan, guide service, and whether you share a vehicle.
Kruger National Park is a strong base for a 10-day South Africa safari. The park can anchor a route that adds a private reserve, a coastal stop, or another wildlife area. SafariFind lists South Africa packages that help travelers compare destinations before requesting a quote.
A 10-day trip also gives you room to slow down. Ten days can combine two or three regions, or let you explore one country in greater depth. After international flights, travelers may have about eight full days on the ground. [4] That timing matters because long road transfers can take time away from game viewing.
A short four-day trip often focuses on one park. A 10-day South Africa safari itinerary gives you more choices. You can spend several nights near Kruger, then add a private reserve or a coastal region. You can also build in rest days instead of moving every morning.
The best route is not always the one with the most stops. Too many transfers can make a trip tiring. I prefer two main bases and one short add-on. You see more without turning the holiday into a race.
Compare 10-day South Africa safari packages and request a quote from verified operators before choosing your route.
A 10-day safari trip in South Africa costs about $1,600 per person for a budget plan and about $6,500 to $8,000 for a tailored or luxury plan in 2027. Luxury fly-in travel can cost $13,000 to $30,000 or more, depending on camps, flights, and private services. [1]
| Trip level | Price per person | Typical planning focus |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | About $1,600 | Lower-cost lodging and shared safari services |
| Tailored or luxury | $6,500 to $8,000 | Higher-end accommodation and a custom route |
| Luxury fly-in | $13,000 to $30,000 or more | Private flights, premium camps, and exclusive services |
| South Africa and Victoria Falls example | From $6,574 | 11-night Southern Africa package |
The South Africa and Victoria Falls example starts at $6,574 per person for 11 nights. [7] A separate 10-day Africa tour starts at $3,349, although its listing covers Africa more broadly and does not confirm a South Africa-only route. [8] Compare the itinerary details before using that figure as a direct South Africa price.
Accommodation is one of the largest cost factors. A simple lodge, tented camp, and private reserve suite create very different totals. Private concessions also raise the price because they often use exclusive vehicles, guides, and camp services.
Safari packages may include game drives, park fees, guided tours, boat cruises, cultural experiences, airport transfers, accommodation, and meals. [3] Always check the inclusions line by line. A lower headline price may exclude transfers, drinks, flights, or conservation fees.
Private safaris cost more because one vehicle and guide serve your party alone. Group safaris reduce costs by sharing those expenses. [5] For many travelers, a small shared vehicle is the best middle ground. It keeps the price down while preserving guided wildlife viewing.
Compare tour operators for a 10-day South Africa safari by price, inclusions, and verified traveler reviews before you pay a deposit.
A practical 10-day South Africa safari itinerary should include two main wildlife bases, planned transfers, daily game drives, and enough time at each lodge. A route built around Kruger National Park can add a private reserve or another South African destination without packing every day with travel.
The following structure is a planning model, not a fixed package. It shows how to divide ten days without claiming exact drive times or unlisted package inclusions.
Hazyview safari packages can help travelers who want a Kruger-area base. Hazyview is also useful for comparing a focused Kruger stay with a wider route that includes private reserves.
| Traveler type | Route idea | Main reason |
|---|---|---|
| First-time visitor | Kruger area plus a private reserve | Two safari settings without many long transfers |
| Couple | Kruger area plus a tailored lodge stay | More privacy and flexible pacing |
| Family | One main wildlife base plus a city or coastal stop | Fewer lodge changes and more activity choices |
| Wildlife-focused traveler | Two safari regions | More time for game drives and different habitats |
South Africa also offers places beyond Kruger. SafariFind lists Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, Addo Elephant National Park, and MalaMala Private Game Reserve. Each destination can fit a different style, but adding too many areas may increase transfers and cost.
Start by fixing your budget, safari style, and preferred wildlife region. Then compare package inclusions, lodge locations, vehicle types, and transfer plans. For a 10-day South Africa safari itinerary, book the main lodge nights first, then confirm flights and connecting transport.
Transport planning deserves attention. A safari lodge may sit far from an international airport, and every transfer affects your time in the reserve. Use SafariFind's guide to getting around South Africa by flights, roads, and transfers when you compare routes.
Choose shared game drives when the budget matters most. Private safaris generally cost more because your group pays for a dedicated vehicle and guide. [5] You can also keep one premium lodge night and use simpler accommodation for the rest of the trip.
Ask what the quote includes before comparing prices. A package with meals, park fees, transfers, and guided activities may offer better value than a cheaper quote that adds those costs later. Check currency, payment deadlines, cancellation terms, and airport transfers in writing.
South Africa's currency and tipping customs can also affect daily spending. SafariFind's guide to money, cards, and tipping in South Africa gives you a practical checklist before departure.
Review current government travel advice before you leave. Plan airport transfers with your operator, protect valuables, and follow your guide's instructions during game drives. SafariFind's South Africa safety guide can support your preparation, but current official advice should guide final decisions.
A 10-day safari trip in South Africa costs about $1,600 per person for a budget plan in 2027. Tailored and luxury plans cost about $6,500 to $8,000, while luxury fly-in trips can reach $13,000 to $30,000 or more. [1]
How much is a safari holiday in South Africa?A safari holiday in South Africa costs about $1,600 per person for a budget 10-day plan. A tailored holiday costs about $6,500 to $8,000, depending on accommodation, park fees, private concessions, transfers, and vehicle choice. [1]
What does a South Africa safari package include?A South Africa safari package may include game drives, park fees, guided tours, accommodation, meals, airport transfers, boat cruises, and cultural experiences. Check the written quote because operators package these services in different ways. [3]
Is 10 days enough for a South Africa safari?Ten days is enough for a South Africa safari that combines two or three regions, or explores one country in greater depth. After flights, travelers may have about eight full days on the ground, so two main bases often create the best balance. [4]
Does a private South Africa safari cost more than a group safari?A private South Africa safari generally costs more because the travelers pay for an exclusive vehicle and guide. A group safari lowers the cost by sharing those expenses. Compare both options when your group size and budget are clear. [5]
How can I book a 2027 South Africa safari with confidence?Use SafariFind to compare verified safari packages, tour operators, prices, and authentic traveler reviews. Request a quote, check inclusions, and confirm the 2027 dates, transfer plan, cancellation terms, and accommodation before paying.
A 10-day South Africa safari itinerary costs about $1,600 per person for a budget trip and $6,500 to $8,000 for tailored or luxury travel in 2027. Luxury fly-in plans can cost $13,000 to $30,000 or more. [1]
For most first-time visitors, two wildlife bases make more sense than a rushed list of parks. Use Kruger National Park as the main anchor, then add a private reserve or a second region if the budget allows. Shared drives can keep costs lower. A private vehicle gives your group more control.
Start with the route, then compare what each quote includes. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews, so you can judge price and service together. Compare verified safari packages on SafariFind, request a quote, and choose a 2027 plan that fits your time and budget.

"We made our reservations with 50% down-payment way back in Feb-26, 4 months before our trip in June and balance 50% one month before departure from Singapore. We were not sure and worried a bit whether things would turn out as described and promised, as this is our first ever trip to South Africa. All our worries disappeared from the moment we were picked up upon arrival according to the itinerary, and subsequent daily trips were excellent in view of timing, routes, transports, accommodations, meals, and to the local guides and drivers assigned. Everything is above and beyond our expectations, and we sincerely thank Safari Tailors for providing us such a memorable trip of our life!"

"Communications with Mack via email were swift and comprehensible. We were picked up at the airport on arrival by our guide, Thomas, who would be with us for the whole week. We signed up for a budget camping safari, and we had a great time! The campsites were nicer than I thought they would be, and the Kiliholidays team did a great job of taking care of us the whole trip. Thomas was very accommodating, and our 'stomach engineer' did a fantastic job the whole trip. My partner and I were very impressed by the quality of the food. Thomas was an incredible driver; a few times we had to stop and help other drivers who were stuck! This was my second visit to East Africa, and I will definitely book with Kiliholidays for my third trip :) A few tips for other travelers: The sleeping mattress was a bit thin for me (my partner had no trouble!), but I found that sleeping on my back instead of my side helped. If you have sensitive hips, I'd recommend bringing something to use as a cushion, or possibly arranging for an extra mattress. The tent was high-quality and the sleeping bags were warm. We stayed in Mto wa Mbu a few nights and it was quite hot there. We brought sleeping sacks (very thin) and used those instead. Bring LOTS of insect repellent and use it often (biting flies in the daytime, mosquitoes at night). Same with hand sanitizer (public campsite toilets don't usually have soap). Granola bars are a good idea, too, if you like to snack between meals. There's not a lot of access to ice, so if you like an evening adult-beverage, just ask your guide to stop before you leave Arusha to pick up some wine. We picked up a 5-liter box of South African wine for about 25euros and it was very convenient (bring your own cups!)."

"This is the second time I have traveled with my family with GoExplore. The first time was an amazing Uganda experience (already reviewed) and this second experience with my husband to Kenya was equally amazing. Brian organized organized both tours for me and tailored them according to my wishes. As this is still the time of unsure flights and Covid difficulties, he was easily able to adapt to some changes with travel that were beyond our control. GoExplore is a boutique business that is very personalized and offers you the equal and more than a large corporate operator. The price point is compatible with group tours but you will have your own personal driver and guide for yourself and there is nothing to compare with this luxury. Because of that, you will also be able to adapt your days schedule if you wish according what you want and not what is a groups plan. We were completely happy and satisfied with all aspects of our travel (on both trips). Brian knows the safari tour industry and is constantly working to improve the business, his knowledge about lodges, the parks, restaurants and all minute aspects of the tour. He will be able to personally attest to the quality of whatever product he is recommending to you. Sammi was our driver in Kenya and we can only say that he was amazing. He knew more about wildlife (and every birds name and details) than an encyclopedia, was an amazingly adept driver in sometimes rough conditions (traffic, rough park roads, etc.) and looked out for our interests. While respecting the animals, he went above and beyond trying to make sure we saw every different animal we could. We appreciated that he obviously respected and cared about the animals we were seeing. (Not all safari drivers do and will do anything to try to get to see something up close, even while encroaching too much on their space.) We had a minor vehicle difficulty and Sammi made sure that everything went smoothly and we didn't miss a minute of our trip or schedule. He is quite an asset to GoExplore. Sammi only drives on Kenya trips but if you go to Uganda, I highly recommend Moses who was equally great. Overall, the trip was an unforgettable trip of a lifetime. If you haven't gone on a safari before, you should trip to put this on your life plan. There is nothing like it and when you plan it, you want a safari operator that will listen to your needs, wants, and budget and tailor it to fit you. GoExplore will do that in a personal way. Our lodges that Brian picked were magical and the food was outstanding. There was nothing about our trip that we would have changed. I highly recommend GoExplore if you want to travel to any of the countries they operate in. If not those countries, then reconsider them over the more commercialized ones (such as South Africa) and you won't be disappointed."

"We just finished a 2-week tour of South Africa with extension to Victoria Falls and the Monde Village Cultural Experience was one of the highlights of the entire trip. It is a must-do for anyone in the area. Tongesai (our guide) was very personable and worked with us to customize the experience. He was flexible and took time to explain many things that aren't part of the "regular tour". We had great conversations throughout the tour. He ended up dropping us off so late (8:30pm), his wife had to call him twice. He took a few pictures with us so he had alibi. :) Mr Ncube (our village host) and his family were welcoming and excited to show us their way of life. Mr Ncube's explanations of his culture, family structure, farming struggles, and discussions on many topics showed us a simple way of life, much different than our modern American ways, but it made so much sense. People here fight hard to live but they do it with a smile. They may be poor, but not in spirit. We asked many questions and received questions ourselves. It was as if I was visiting an uncle living in a rural part of a third-world country. This family made us felt at home. We wish we had more time to sit under the summer kitchen during a raining day, sharing food and chatting with these folks. We wish we could sit in the winter kitchen to hear him teach his children and grandchildren. Needless to say, we spent 4+ hrs at this experience and wanted more. I am now back to "civilization" in a nice Qatari hotel, but I kept thinking about my time in the simple Monde Village. What a breath of fresh air that was. I brought some extra clothes to give, but ended up giving as much as I could live without for the rest of my trip. A pair of sandals doesn't mean much to me, but it means a lot to people in these villages. This is 30+ hrs flight from home so it is a one-time chance to help; I had to make the best of it. If I can come back to this area, I will definitely bring more people to share in this amazing experience. I encourage all who come to Victoria Falls to add this cultural experience to their itinerary."

"Cultural Vibes Travel and Tours has proved to be excellent yet again as this is now the third time, we have used them and a much-needed break after almost 3 years with the Covid pandemic. Tongesai is extremely reliable, professional, knowledgeable and does everything to make your trip a memorable experience. Compared to local larger companies, Tongesai’s individual package rates are more reasonable and come with a customized touch. We felt that our holiday with Tongesai was much better and suited us more so than if we had booked through a larger company. His individual tailoring, personal involvement and attention to detail pays off in the smooth running of your trip. Our visits to the Victoria Falls, both sides from Zimbabwe and Zambia were magnificent and never cease to amaze us. On this trip Tongesai arranged for a private sunset cruise on the Zambezi just for our family of four instead of on the larger vessels, which was a very pleasant alternative. The boat trip in Chobe is magical and a must if you venture into Botswana. Wildlife was in abundance, including lion, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, puku, kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, gemsbok, steenbok, sable and roan antelope, etc. We even saw a relative of Cecil, the famous black-maned lion, ‘once a true king of Hwange National Park’. I have no hesitation in recommending the company for arranging tours in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana - we will definitely be seeing him again. He is currently setting up arrangements with colleagues in Kruger National Park to venture into South Africa and I wish him every success with that."
